View Full Version : quick clarification.
i'm new at this so i'm trying to pickup what i can from the stickied threads but just quickly, i take it vanilla means a perfectly unmodded version of d2 with the exception of ATMA? if so i'm playing vanilla and if i want to get started on some mp i would be more productive if i got the RWM and RRM mods so i have more people to play and trade with. Or is it worth staying vanilla for some unforseen reason.
RWM - allows more runeowrds to be created?
RRM - colours your runes so you don't miss em?
what are your opinions on these mods, cause i have no clue right now lol.

Yes, you are currently Vanilla by the forum's definition.
Yes, if you wanted to MP, being RRM/RWM would definitely open up more options of games. As for staying Vanilla, it's all personal preference really. I like to trade and occasionally MP so converting to RRM/RWM made the most sense for me personally.
RWM allows all the bnet only runewords be created. In my opinion this is a good thing since it allows for some nifty items that open up build possiblities. On the con side, some folks think Insight and Spirit are overpowered for their cheap cost and makes things too easy.
RRM makes runes appear in red text when using the "show items" button. I don't personally use this but I'm considered as such since I've traded with RRM users. It's a pretty simple mod, you see the runes easier. I don't really see any cons with that.

I would just like to clarify the concept of "TAINT" here
Some people think that playing with [RRM, RWM] is an unfair advantage. These players DO NOT want to trade with players who have [RRM, RWM] because they think that the characters they played with are "Tainted" and ANY Items that these "tainted" characters gained would subsequently be "tainted" as well. Following from that, any Item that they trade in MP/SPTF will be tainted as well
People with RRW, RWM should not trade(give items) to a vanilla player
However, a vanilla can always trade(give items) to a "tainted" player, since that "tainted" player doesnt really care if the item was tainted or not
You can still trade OUT items as a vanilla player to ANYONE, and still trade IN items from other vanilla players
*If you take an item from a tainted player however, your status as "untainted" will be questioned
If I were you, I would stay vanilla as long as possible, and trade with other vanilla players; before switching to RWM, RRM
