View Full Version : it's safe to say this will have low system reqs, right?

It's either a silly question or way too early to speculate, I know. Still curious right now though how well this will run on a notebook that wasn't expensive.
Blizz had said that they're going to keep the system requirements fairly low so more people can play.

"low" for today's standards, or for "then" standards?
My own system is rather strong for what we can reach nowadays, but when D III is released in mid-2011 (just an example!) it's probably average.
If you have a "slow" system now (say, running Crysis on Medium/Low graphics would murder it), you'll want a new system by then if it's the latter; "then" standards.
However, I recall a post about the system reqs being ever so slightly above SC 2's (no significant difference, presumably).
I don't know. Probably "Then" standards. But then again, I don't think Diablo 3 is going to take that long.
I remember Smash Bros Brawl was announced in summer of 2007 and was released March 2008. Sounds pretty similar.

I know they are trying to make everyone happy with a supposed low computer requirements. but for those who DO have an elite beast of a tower( i.e. me), it would be nice if we got something for the money we spent, on a game that we will absolutely love.
That's why, for all games, there is a minimum requirement and the optimal requirements. So people who don't have the money for an expensive computer can enjoy it at a more than decent setting, and those that have something a lot better, get to have their cake and eat it too, as well. and I'm not talking about using DirectX 10, because I'm still using XP, because I LOATHE vista.
but some high anti-aliasing settings and the like, so I can have the smoothest look I can get, to enhance my gaming experience. Don't think that's too much to ask.
Well obviously there aren't going to be Crysis-like graphics, but the highest settings can't be too different than the lowest, or else the extra graphics data clogs up hard-drive space if you don't use it.

Well I certainly don't want anyone to lose out because I'm too cheap to buy something good, but usually isn't it the case that games that can look great on a high end machine, the low end req has to move up somewhat? I mean turning features off gets you only so far. I don't mind turning just about everything off, I do hope I can get decent texture detail at native resolution (in my case, 1680x1050).
I had no idea D3 was that far off though. 2011? I thought we're looking at this holidays. Maybe I registered here a year too early.
But, just out of curiosity, where does a notebook with a P8600, 3 gig ram, 9800m-GS gpu fall these days?

How elite? :)
And Vista's quite okay, but the folders are way different from XP, which is confusing at first... But DX 10 makes Crysis amazingly beautiful (same goes for other Dx10(.1) games).
Supreme Commander (16 Feb. 2007 release) already has an 8x AA setting available; I bet D III will have at least 6x. We'll see, I guess.

I doubt it. Looking at what similar games (e.g. sacred 2) require of a system, I doubt you can get D3 to run decently on a cheap notebook.

I would not run DIII on anything less than a dual core and Geforce 8800. As long you can run Crysis on the low and medium settings, DIII should be a good bet.
SCW have a series of articles on the system specs for StarCraft 2. Considering they both use the same physics engine, I think reading a few of them is likely a very good idea to get a basic number on where the D3 specs will end up...

I doubt they'll be as generous with the min specs as, say, Red Alert 3 was, but imo they'll still be a lot lower than most A+ titles. Blizzard recognise there are far more so-called 'low' spec machines out there than medium and high spec put together.

@ SlechtWeerBeer
My Computer parts (or the ones that matter in this regard at least) are:
Chassis: Thermaltake Armor+
MoBo: Asus Core i7 Rampage II Extreme
CPU: Intel Quad-core 3.2ghz extreme edition
RAM: 2Gigs of Patriot DDR3 1600MHZ (viper series)
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+
Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster V8
judging from the graphics shown so far, anything above P4 2.6GHz, 768mb ram and Geforce 7300/atiX700 would run it.
for integrated graphics, if they are from intel or Sis then you might want to upgrade to a dedicated one.
