Diablo quest un-completeable [Archive] - Diablo 3 & Diablo 2 Forums

My SP HC lvl 84 Trapper was trying to kill Hell Diablo. It was my first attempt at the seals, and I completed them all, but had to go back to the "left" seals to kill the Grand Vizier - I think he was hiding in the lava the first time around. Diablo spawned shortly there after.

Anyhow, after getting slapped aroung by Diablo for a round or two, I TP'ed back to town, and when I came back, there was nothing but a pile of magic/rares near the central star and the quest log said I could not complete the quest in this game...

What gives? Any ideas?

I'm guessing leftover traps, poison damage, or something like that finished off the last sliver of his life while you were in town. And since in town is more than a couple screens away, you didn't get the quest.
