claw viper temple?

how am i supposed to beat this in single player? i have a lvl 80 blizzard sorc but every thing is cold immune. im basically just feeding my merc potions as i just stand there. but he gets slaughter down in the altar room. usually the first group of vipers ends it, if i cant pull 2-3 away and run, my merc doesnt stay a chance against a group bigger than 2-3. do i need like some crazy gear, or a lvl 99 merc to beat this area?

all morning ive been at this and only once did i make it to the altar and that was pure luck.

single player single tree sorcs will run into a multitude of problems because your only other source of damage is your merc. You'll be running into plenty more cold immunes along the way, and most single tree sorcs on battle net are either rushed through or party up to deal with situations like this one.

Even the best gear on ladder wouldn't resolve your issue. Either you'll need to adapt some odd tactics, but you're going to find some quests (like Anya) nearly impossible (or take forever and a day) if your merc is the only one doing damage to cold immunes. I hope you put at least one point in static, as it can help, even with minions if you have to use it.

Enter the temple lvl 2, telepr0t to the altar, pop it, grab the amu, tp out.

The viper temple is probably one of the three hardest areas for a solo cold sorc (rescuing Anya and killing the Ancients can both suck a lot too, though neither of those has caused me as much problems as consistently as the viper temple.).

Like Zelator mentioned, you should hopefully be able to teleport on the altar and grab the amulet before getting spanked by all of the packs. If Fangskin & Co spawn on top of the altar, go back to Nightmare (briefly) to change your map (trust me - it's easier).

Getting to level2 isn't the easiest, but use teleport to try to spread packs out so that your merc only has to face one or two monsters at a time. To help him with battles, you should also use Static Field to cut monster's life in half, and you can spam Telekinesis to force the monsters into hit recovery (this works really well against single vipers and other "small" sized monsters).
