View Full Version : Low mf/fast killing vs. high mf/slower killing
Hi, to all of you who mf a lot and consider yourselves quite good at it, do you prefer low mf (like 140%) with lots of great items, or high mf where you might not be so good, like upwards 350%+?
Thoughts?

I prefer around 200 mf since it hardly sacrifices killing speed. :)
The tal 3 piece set plus a single gheeds lets you hit that point easily.

- Depending of the equipment you have awailable it shoud be from 150% to 300%
- After 300% MF, it alone suffers from great diminishing, but very often your killing power diminishes greatly too. So if it is not really a special occasion and specialized build *to be understood some rarer gear ofc* more then 300% is just a waste, and so in a better scenario...
- However, don't take me wrong. More MF never ever hurts, it is not bad alone but only if you can carry that. 150% is just righ amount for start, i've 150%-finded a lot and it is completely OK, though aim for some 200-250% ideally. Like Bladewind has mentioned, Tal's set or 3pic-Tal is groovy ofc. who wouldn't wont one for his Sorc? Nobody.
- Don't know what you farm but, anytime-anwhere don't add more MF (especially when you have 150+) if you can feel the difference, or/and are potentially making yourself endangered. Also never increase players (if Single Player) if you can feel the difference in speed. MF is more about speed than the MF percents, shortly. GL!

In my opinion, anything over 100% is just fine ... I'd like to think finding the rare and unique items is a test of your patience and determination instead of just how high your magic find is. I find good items with or without lots of MF and I think the majority of the whole MF thing is a psychological thing!
and I think the majority of the whole MF thing is a psychological thing!
- And the majority of whole game is about MF, after all.
- Just to complete you... Now someone could complete me with the lesson(s) about it though...

Some of the best items I've found were with over 300-400 mf. Some of the best items I've found were with 200.
I used to be a high believer in mf, and when I was first building up I got as much mf as I could use. But as I have a lot more experience now then when I first started back up, I've seen its limitations.
The most important thing to keep in mind is, your mf doesn't affect what drops. It affects the quality of what drops, assuming it can in the first place. If the game chooses to drop a rune, mf has no influence. Also, higher or lower mf doesn't decide if, for example, a shako drops. Once that shako is chosen, your mf will be play a role to decide if its a harlequin quest or something less desirable.
When I first got to hell, I had negative resists across the board, and taking on hell meph was always a high risk of death, as well as time-consuming in order to stay alive when in especially grave danger. Now, anything I have can easily kill Meph, and the real challenge is getting there (finding durance 3).
If you're using a magic find focused build, my basic guideline would be to shoot for 200-300. Anymore than that will severely hamper your killing speed, and while higher mf means more uniques/sets/rares drop, it doesn't matter much if you can't use/trade them. I've killed all the bosses hundreds of times already as is. The more you do it, the more junk you realize can drop. Occasionally you're also reminded that they can drop something really nice once in a while.
technically, even 300ish is on the low side, since you can get up to 800+..
I personally have about about 300% on my light sorc. I use eschuta's + spirit as my main set and on my switch I use an ali baba's + spirit that I switch to for the kill. double ist the Ali Baba and at lvl 90 you have 150% mf right there. Using a Ptopaz Shako, CoH, PChancies, 2x Pnagels, and a goldwrap, thats another 229%. Toss in a Gheeds and you're close to 400% with out breaking too far into your ability to kill. I can still do meph runs with ease using my Ali Baba on the switch. I also use a +3 light ammy with like 19%mf, so that helps with the +skills section. I think in my MF setup, when using baba, I still have around +10 light skills(i have 1 skiller gc) which is good enough for killing meph pretty quick.
All that to say that you can get a pretty decent amount of MF without sacrificing too much killing speed. While MF is all about luck, it doesn't hurt to have a 300% chance of turning those white's into magic items which means more charms, more rares, more uniques come popping out of that monster!

I think balanced is fine, i despise ppl with gear full of ists and perfect topases, its just wierd IMO since they sacrifice heavy amounts of damage, fcr and resists just for insane MF. I personaly preffer Tal armr, tal amu, tal belt, war travs, gheeds then maybe some mf from the rest of the gear and charms. so balanced is good, nothing to extreme.
EDIT: i use nagel and perf topaz shako too.
