What's the deal with ES and Telekinesis?

Yeah, I'm totally new to ES and telekinesis stuff, so I need an explanation, a breif and simple one:whistling:. I heard that maxing telekinesis is better than maxing ES itself???? But when I haev spare points I can max ES correct?

Edit: Sorry, I have found out how it works. However, I heard there are some attacks which cannot be absorbed by ES. What are they? Secondly, a bit off topic question, if I use infinity, and my merc uses infi too, will my conv be at lvl 24? Will they stack?

I understand why I have to max Telekinesis coz it reduces the amount of mana taken for every damage we take. However what I don't understand is why only put 1 in ES? Or if you have to max it, why?

For the sake of this example assume +15 to sorc skills.
Each point in TK reduces damage taken by 6.25%

1 pt ES and 1 pt TK
70% Damage transfered to ES
200% Damage taken to mana

that 200% hurts, your mana will drop fast. still its equivalent to a bunch of extra life for 2 skill points. plus with a couple of SOJ, and Frostburns, its not so bad. Especially since mana is more cost effective than life as a Sorc.

1 pt ES and 16 pt TK
70% Damage transfered to ES
100% Damage taken to mana

This is looking better, damage taken is one for one with mana.

The trick with both these examples is to balance your life and mana so that the go down at about the same rate. Kit and Tk level will affect the balance.

20 pt ES pre-buffed to lv 40, 20 pt TK

95% Damage transfered to ES
75% Damage taken to mana

Damage is actually reduced by 25% by TK, and only 5% goes to life. Combined with equiptment that does Damage Reduced by X (Not Damaged Reduced by X%) you can take no damage to life at all. This doesn't mean you are invlunerable, as eventually your mana will reach zero and your ES will go down, then you die!
