SC1 was the first to die to so many hackers.
D2 and WC3 soon followed after.

Will Blizzard maintain battlenet2.0 for D3 and SC2 longer and better than they did with SC1 and D2/WC3 and not leave it to die after 4-5 years?

Of course it takes funding to maintain a server but at the time when WoW wasn't out yet, blizzard didn't get a steady supply of money so you can kinda guess them to leave the server to rot after a few years. But now that there is WoW, will SC2 and D3 repeat the same experience as their predecessors?

I know but will they maintain SC2 and D3 server until SC3 and D4 comes out instead of letting it die before their sequels come?

if the game is no longer profitable, then yes.

Will still let them die. And WoW servers are smelling impending doom as well. Recently the head of the WoW team have changed to another new un-named Blizzard MMO as well.

I have a feeling that Battlenet 2.0 will be far more secure than Bnet was. Mainly for Starcraft 2, because Bnet 2.0 will be like a stadium for a national sport in Korea so they have that responsability now as the Starcraft Sequel is the dream of every korean.

D3 will have benefit of that, plus I have a feeling that Diablo 3 will be a huge seller and once remember how a good fast-action game can be and not a tedious job (looking at you, MMOs...).

But of course, nothing last forever, there will be a time that Diablo 3 will have to die, just like D1 had and D2 soon will have as well.

Did anybody else ever hear about the handful of deaths that ensued after a Starcraft patch or something was released in Korea? I forget the others, but I remember that a guy stayed in an internet cafe for a week or so on little to no sleep and little to no food, until his body just shut down from exhaustion/lack of nutrients.

^That happened on WoW too, it was a girl in this case.

But yeah, blizzard has the power to kill people with their games and that is awesome, what can be more fantastic then creating a game that is > than life.

4-5 years is a long time.

Blizzard wouldn't be the first company to drop support after 4-5 years. It's not like you can't play anymore either.

I think the fact they are still releasing patches for SC until today is amazing enough (there was a SC patch released almost a month ago).

Worry not ... SC2 and D3 will probably have a healthier life than their predecessors (might not live as long but will surely be much healthier).

I have the solution right here folks...

Volunteers. They work for free. Doesn't Blizzard know that people are willing to maintain their servers FOR FREE? There are millions of fans. Some of them have computer expertise. Some would be willing to spend a couple of hours each week 'maintaining' the server, taking care of hack problems, banning people, etc. Just get X number of volunteers and you got yourself a 24 hour service team ensuring someone is ALWAYS on to work on the problems as they come up. Of course, they are highly qualified, bondable, etc.

And all this would cost zero dollars.
