View Full Version : TheDark Mod: Unknown Items (Granny Ring)
Hey does anyone know what this "Granny's Ring" that I got from the Farmer (after I blew up the nest opening) is? It doesn't list any stats when clicking on it, nor does it affect any of my stats in the Char-box...?
BUMPITY! Bump - BUMP! :wink2:

It has no purpose except to be sold to Adria for gold. I believe Zenda said that Granny's Ring was given as a reward because the quest can be easily repeated over and over in multiplayer.

WT...F "easily," yeah from my exp, it's easily one of the most difficult quests in the game, least beating the defiler and his ridiculous army of Blood-star witches, whom all are immune to nearly everything, swarm you, and have a crazy walk-and-shoot speed beyond belief! There's nothing but swarms down there. You cannot run and pick them off 1-by-1 either, b/c the witches follow you and just continue to pelt you off screen, while these ill shaped flesh bags follow you with a gazillion HPs. Oh not to mention the defiler himself = ~3000HP in normal lvl, and a huge offensive swipe attack. :dizzy:
Am I playing the same game as everyone else? Lol!? :dontknow:
Thx for the post!

If I remember correctly, Lester gives you Granny's Ring just for blowing up the Nest, so it's a free 500 gold for doing nothing. Of course, if he were to give something for clearing out the Nest, I would expect a more substantial reward. :P
Haha yeah the Nest can be very brutal. Some of those enemies don't seem to do much except stand there in packs and shoot 2 acid balls per second at you while those massive Hork Demons come rumbling on over to you. The Nest is pretty wide open in a lot of places so it can be difficult to find cover and good places to fight. I wish Sierra would have designed some doors (slimy alien ones) for this tileset. As it stands, the levels generated are the simplest in the whole game.
Yeah you're right... Geesh, there's some SERIOUS unique monsters down there too! There's some Blood-Star Unique that's SURROUNDED like Fort Knox! The only way, wait, I don't even remember how I managed to kill her the last time I was down there?! I think I accidentally set off an Arcane rune bomb, BTW - This is playing the modded version of Hellfire The Dark (http://www.thedark5.com/Guide/default.htm) Mod. VERY nice I might add. Though you lack a certain sense of quest-direction in the game; it's very well made, the weapons and mods added to them are so much better than D1/Hellfire. It sorta reminds me of a beta Diablo II! Give it a shot, but be forewarned; it's difficult, much more so than HF/D1...
Salut

Heh I'm a bit reckless in there, but I'm lvl 33 so that makes it fun :D. I usualy run in and cast a few novas on his head then nova his minions away :D... and try no to suicide in the process XD.
Gotta get some more potion bags after my little mishap with my old computer dieing on me.

Actually... The Dark mod is retarded much more difficult than Hellfire/Diablo1. Full mana potions sold at Aria are limited and take time to reappear for sale! So those stupid little 1/3-1/2 charges really get eaten up FAST! I just turned Lvl-32 and can barely finish off Lvl-13 Caves with my Bard-mini-Mage. It's damn near impossible w/o using mana-shield and a ton of nova/wrym blood pots. I'm so sick of potion whoring!
I've got some pretty elite gear too!
Doing 112-166dmg and I'm still getting whooped up, I don't know wtf it takes to dominate at this game!?

you using V5.3? I dont remember Adria running out of pots.

Yeah 5.3; not literally running out of them (full pots) but you can't just go buy as many as you want like the 1/3rd pots. So I've got to hoard them and so forth... While I do like a game with a challenge, I don't think that flooding levels with as many monsters as you can fit = "challenge," esp when if you're a transitional character (Bard, Monk, etc.) and you can't just run in axe/sword swinging like the Barb/Warrior, or just use magic from a distance (Sorc)... You get swarmed, can't hack them all to death, and my magic isn't strong enough etc... That and only a 5% leech, non-haste sword ain't cutting it when I take hits etc... It certainly helps though!

buy a bunch of small pots and then hit the tome of alchemy in the abyss. lotsa cheap big mana pots :D
Hrmm that sounds familiar, but where is it again? From what I can see here: http://www.thedark5.com/Guide/special.htm
There's Potion Bag & Tome of Lore for scrolls... being at lvl 32 in NM, I haven't run across any of them yet... Rats! This game is starting to bore me with the lopsided difficulty and lack of hoard balance... Oh and Griswold's sh!tty good selection!

Play D1ME instead, you'll almost definitely like it.

There's a thread right on this forum about it...

Excellent, thanks a lot... in the middle of another session of The Dark Mod... Found a Strange Sword of Haste recently = one the rarest swords from Wirt. Still hunting the elusive KSOH... Hoping there's a KSOVampires to replace my Champion's prefix...

What a waste of effort do you think the granny ring was even worth the trouble? :( ------------------------------ Peace, Squid :)

Def not, it's a complete waste of time, the only thing that place is good for is a boat of experience, since the creators decided that they LIKE the hoard and swarm approach to "difficulty" Vs just putting less, but stronger monsters. Always having to tele-around picking off small groups, it's highly annoying. The stupid blocking/avoidance glitch basically makes Blood-star witches the "Black Souls" of the game, it's freaking annoying to play now.
But I just beat Hell Norm for grins @clvl-35... it wasn't "hard" but certainly not easy. Also using pretty elite gear, I can't imagine trying to play this game with anything less it's just too difficult to play and still feel like you're having "fun."
... STILL Gris running to get that King sword of Vampires! I've seen 1 KSO-Titan from Wirt, but that's all... Geessh
