Hey all,

Was just thinking about this, but do you all think that you would have been better of if D3 was still a mystery? I have loved all the talk and speculation and all the info we have gotten so far, but the game is a looooong way away. I check this site several times a day hoping for new news and it sucks waiting like this. Especially with all the haters. Defintely a double edged sword, but in the end I guess its cool to know it IS coming. Thoughts?

I am glad it was announced. Sure, it sucks waiting for information, but since I know it's coming out I have something to look forward to. When I'm bored I make up monsters or spells for the game.

I can't decide. Both possibilities looks great.

*If announced, as it is, we all are forum eaters, post a lot, share emotions from 8 years ago with you all... and this is VERY very fun. Nice feelings.

*If not announced... I can imagine if some day, without previous advice and all of us focused in diablo2, Blizzard says: "this is Diablo3, you can buy it tomorrow on shops".

Both looks superb.

The best thing is D3 will be release. This is the only thing that matters, heh.

Agree. good point. Like I said its fun to speculate :). I think that outweighs the anticipation that will keep building for another year or two. I just want to plaaaaaaaay

In some ways yes and in some ways no.

Yes because Blizzard takes a decade and a half before they release anything. Thats not a knock on them because their products are good but the wait seems to take forever and ever and ever.....

No because as a fan/player of Diablo games you always want the inside scoop on your favorite game :) They took enough time as it is deciding what art direction to go in! :)

The Duke Nukem Forever example comes to mind.

Its brave and very respectable of Blizzard to release information on Diablo 3 the way they did. Brave because it tells the competition what the score is, respectable because they put themselves under a critical watchful eye from a variety of sources for a good duration. When the details first came out I was highly critical. This was mainly because I thought the graphics looked a bit dated but I've changed my mind about that since. Mostly though, its just good to know that a game that I want to play for a long time is coming to fruition and that there's little in the gameplay mechanics that I don't like. Can't wait to play it on 1680x1050 max settings. Although with all of this information it will still have no effect on when I upgrade my hardware, that's already decided (sandybridge, pci-ex3.0, sata600 raid 0, usb3.0, 16gig, 64bit win7, 2011).

I LOVE the graphics. Happy that we're past the shiny 3D photo-realistic phase and can get back into something that looks like paint and not film :)

And, as to the original question... I love the anticipatory period before a game is released, when all things are still possible ;) After release, when you actually PLAY it, it may turn out to be a disappointment. But beforehand it's perfect in your mind's eye. Unless of course you're a cynic like some people around here ;)

Part of me is worried I won't like D3 as much as D2, although I played D2 for years... not because I think the game will be worse, but because I'm a different kind of gamer now. We're all a bit older and more jaded, I suspect. (All of us who played D1 and D2 from the start, that is.) But until it's released, I can remember the day D2 came out, and hope D3 makes me feel that way again, at least for a while :)

To some extent... yeah I was a little surprised that they announced the game. I mean they've got SCII coming out soon so why make people anxious for a game that's years from release anyways?

I dunno, it's like they needed to make an announcement. I see Blizz is pulling out of a lot of the big industry game conventions, maybe it's because they don't want to be pressured to constantly have something "new" to show people. I think it's better that way so they can focus on development and QA instead of PR demos.

I agree with the above posters that half the fun of new games being released is the hype around them, especially with companies like Blizzard. I can't say I religiously follow other gaming companies announcements (except Valve) but I notice alot of games being shipped out with little to no news that I hear of, and I love it when Blizzard can cause such a stir

I was happy they announced it, even knowing it's going to be a long time before it came out. Mostly because, up until that point, there was this lingering fear that they were never going to make another Diablo game, and if they did it was going to be something completely different, like an MMO, etc.

Now, though it's agonizing to wait, at least we know we're getting a real Diablo game (IMO, despite what some may think).

I was thrilled. Also, I had been claiming D3 was coming soon for some time, being right was quite enjoyable.

If you'd been claiming it for some time, you CAN'T have been right every time you said it ;)

i agree , seeing as to what happened to warcraft : from wc3 to WOW , i feared diablo might head the same way , fortunately it didn't.

I think blizzard should hold off on these announcements. I guess all the buzz is good for them, but for me I'd rather know about 6 months before the game comes out. Plenty of time to build up the hype IMO.

Assuming they get this game out in 2010 at least they're moving in the right direction. What did they do with Ghost? Announce it when it was in concept mode?

Remember they announce early not just so you can watch them helplessly, but they listen to your feedback and reactions (community’s), and develop accordingly.

I follow SC2 development closely and the changes I witnessed are:

-We moaned about the ugly Dark Carrier design with ‘spinning blades’, so they brought back the classic Carrier with infoceptors

-We hated the new Dark Templar design, what did they do? They not only remade it, they had a massive poll on their starcraft2.com website to see which version fans preferred it. In the end, Blizz keeps both models. Awesome!

-SC2 also went through the exact same art controversy of being too colorful and polished. After fans moaning, units and buildings look far more gritty and ‘battle hardened’ with desaturated colors.

There is a HUGE art update on this! (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=715030) (A shameless self promotion) ;)

Same interaction and changes occurred for past games like Warcraft 3. With this I’d rather see Blizz continue to announce ‘early’ and have fans participate what they like and dislike and devs respond to them.

I'm split on the issue as well, if they didn't announce it yet I wouldn't have gone out and got a copy of the Sin Wars Trilogy to read. On the other hand, I wouldn't have spent hours of each day reading Diablo forums and waiting for any new news.

Yeah, that's another good reason. There was this one poster on the WoW forums (can't remember the name now, but it was something shorts, like Sapps or something), who was just so arrogant and kept telling people who ridiculous they were for thinking the splash screen could be for Diablo.

"OMG WTF? It's ICE you MORONZ! It's totally Wrath and you're all stupid!"

He was strangely absent when the splash screen changed on the last day ;)

Sorry to burst your little bubbles, but I doubt Blizzard will be releasing any more details about the storyline.

This is the reason why story scrolls are dropping, we have to play the game and find out what is happening.

And YES, I am glad Blizzard annouced the game.
At least, tentatively, a RPG game with a future I can look forward to :D
Love it so far

I'm personally very glad that Blizzard announced D3, it gives a lot of people something to look forward to. It also stops some people from complaining that "Diablo fans are being ignored". It's not just anticipation or hype either, they've released quite a few details about how and why some fundamental game mechanics are going to be changed in the upcoming Diablo title. For example, the idea of auto-stat allocation and droppable health orbs instead of potions. At first I don't think many people were sure how to react, but my impression from reading the forums here over time is that the decisions and explanations that Blizzard has revealed so far seems to have slowly grown on people. I think that the fact they've released this information shows that Blizzard doesn't want to disappoint their fans. Seeing how progress on D3 is coming along also helps to quell some of the trepidation that I personally had from the Activision-Blizzard merger. Let's all hope for the best! A company like Blizzard and their exceptional creations thus far certainly don't come around very often!

And when you say input, we all pray for the words "Open Beta" and "Demo." I would play the crap out of either of those. They are great sources of information on networking and bugs. Lets pray Blizzard releases one or both of those options. Although they don't really have a history of it; that I know of at least. Here's to hoping!

Diablo II had a closed beta and an open beta/stress test :) I was in the open beta played the heck out of it, though it was just Barbarian in Act I through Blood Raven. Ahh, the memories. Could never stand to play the Barb again, lol.

WoW also has closed and/or open betas of all new content.

A server stress test is pretty essential for multiplayer games. I think Blizz will do it.

In some aspects the time before the game is released is more fun waiting than having it played through.
And if it wasn't annouced yet it would probably still leave us the same amount of time until release anyhoo. Just later...

That's awesome that you said that, because I also just ordered the trilogy so I could get my mind off of the speculation surrounding D3.

I wonder if they are seeing a big increase in book sales? Because I NEVER read books, and all of a sudden I want to read all of the Diablo books.

I totally thought about buying the books too and just dont have the cash right now to do so. It seems like a lot of the Lore thats going to be in D3 will come from those books so its kind of like getting a head start

Yes and no.

Yes reason: Yes because i was getting tired of people and there conspiracy theories and doubts of D3 In game of D2 since 04 no1 would shut up about it saying there 2 cents.

No: Because now people STILL wont shut up about it and theres so much rumors about it that its just frusterating . Lets enjoy the fact its coming out and not go crazy about it.

Yeah i think D3's announcement was a good thing, to soon? i'd say so

The way I see it is like this. My hopes that D3 would be announced at the WWI were through the roof. When it was finally announced, I was ecstatic because D2 was such a good/addicting game and it's been about the only game I've looked forward to for a long time.

If it hadn't been announced, sure it would make the time until release seem much quicker, but we all need to suck it up and let it take it's time.

I'm really glad they announced it when they did. The anticipation for this game is absolutely huge, but we all need to relax for another year.

Bah! We don't need to suck up anything. Blizzard just needs to stop being slower than a tortoise in releasing games. :coffee:

I was pretty excited and glad they announced it. Only "regret" was that announcement shortened last ladder season and ended my wish for leveling beyond lv96 on my highest character of the time.
Aside knowing the fact that series will continue, the second best thing about it that it brought lot of people back to Diablo2, and first weeks of ladder had unique feel with all new ladder + DiaIII announcement hype.

I think it would've been better to wait one more year. If they'd announce it this summer WWI, I'd be happy with christmas 2009 or summer 2010 release. But now I'm not happy with those release dates and all the hype is getting on my nerve. I'm starting to be less interested to a game that haven't even come out yet and probably won't for a year. I think it's bad marketing.
