I have not paid attention to D3 development in a while now. So forgive me if they have already released all the info. I have no doubt that at some point people will try to hack, that is a given. As such people will also lose their accounts. I thought that maybe the items of accounts lost could be moved over to the auction house where other players could bid/trade/purchase etc.. with whatever currency or trading mechanism is in place.

Comments?

Not likely. For one thing, Diablo is a video game. You can just delete items. they don't pile up. Secondly, if a bunch of hackers got banned, their hacked items would flood the economy.

Haha yeah, if they ban like 350,000 accounts like before, there would be 350,000 hacked windforces on the auction house (if they add an auction house)

They should torture the banned people by allowing them to log in, but not leave town or trade or move/drop any items. They can just stay in town and watch their gear slowly fade out.

Even better if while they can only do that, logging into that character doesn't reset the "auto-delete" countdown. So all they can do is wander like a ghost around town until their 90 days is up and they go POOF :D
