When is a good time to do that Cow level?

I read how to get there in the manual, but I don't know when a good time to actually try it out is.

a good time to try it out is right after you've defeated baal in that difficulty:

-run in a fair distance and throw up a town portal, then escape and come in through the red portal, now you have two places you can enter/escape and won't get ganged up upon so easily (yes, there are a LOT of cows and it's easy to get ganged up upon if you don't kill fast enough)

-if you see a lightning enchanted cow, check if it's the cow king

-don't kill the cow king if you want to enter the cow level again some time, as killing him will make it impossible for you to get to the cow level in that difficulty

-the cow king is the only monster in the game that can drop cow king's set items, so if you don't mind not returning, kill him for a chance at a green item...

-most players just kill him in normal and spare him in NM and hell

- the cow king is only found in the moo moo farm, which is a place with wooden walls in the cow level

Any cow can drop cow king set, not just the king so you don't need to kill him for his set.

but i'd kill the normal king anyway for his better drop chances...
