View Full Version : Minus Damage From Enemies Prefix
Does anyone remember what this exactly means regarding Armors in Diablo 1? I've got a low class armor I'm debating using for me Bard. I cannot find what " -x dmg from enemies" actually means, what does that actually pertain to in dmg done by the enemy?

i presume it means the final damage done by monsters to u is reduced by that amount.
not sure if it only applies to physical damage or any damage though.
i'm sure jaruf's guide talks about/explains it. u do have jaruf's guide (downloaded) ?

So does this mean that the monster does 10dmg/hit, "-5 dmg pts" means it will end up only doing 5 dmg pts/hit (10-5) in the end? If that's the case, then that's a POS suffix if in NM/Hell something is slapping you with 250dmg/hit and with this suffix applied it's a easliy 245dmg/hit? It cannot be that lame, it's almost pointless unless you're in norm mode, clvl/mlvl 1-5...:dopey:

Yes, that is what it does, and yes, it really is that lame.
There are various guides around for D1 that recommend stocking up on that kind of gear, for some reason. IIRC you can get about -6 off a fairly common affix, and some of the uniques have more. However as you noted, it's only good at low clvls, and the chances of a low-clvl character legitamately finding a whole set of gear that gives them around -10 damage from monsters (where it starts to get interesting) is quite unlikely.
So it kind of relegates the affix to an interesting diversion if concentrated on, but otherwise it's pretty ignorable.
IIRC a similar affix is present in D2.

Man I KNEW IT! That is such trash! Griswonk has the NEVER to sell that junk at Exuberant prices?! Most of the stuff I want to buy, I cannot b/c of that stupid stash-space bug... Awesome plate of the Mammoth 199,278GP. Armor tease! BS, I wish I could find a stash/gold mod that would let you pile more gold or give extra spaces so I could try it for a tank build. My Rogue could REALLY use it. With all the uber gear I've farmed for her, she's a POS in NM, w/o constant running, hiding and shooting like some panzy. Ridiculous AC and still get nailed by projectiles. POS 15-45° bug that puts me at a major disadvantage!
Mods are the only thing that make this game playable at all, once you've played DII = it's so much more superior, not in every way, but certainly common-sense features... Maybe I'll PlugY my way for a run and see if I like playing again...
Thus far The Dark Mod is pretty dang hard; too hard for the gear and lack of easy access to gold/uniques etc. :steam:
Thx 4 the replies!

i was looking at the dark mod too, unfortunately i found out it is only for HELLFIRE (which i don't have), however on the dark mod site, it has help for "modding" diablo 1 classic or hell fire, and maybe i could possibly learn enough to go into diablo 1, and change the ability to be able to get gear (as far as i know, this is only the real sticking point that disapoints/bothers me with diablo 1 classic being a perfectionist player i want that gear and even though i'm no where near having good gear already i still want the possibility for the ultimate best...we perfectionist players are a bit stupid i know...)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
possibly apply the - damage mods with MANA (energy shield is d2, lol, i always get these mixed up) shield (like with d2's LOD of being able to get much higher energy shield levels, not so useful on diablo 2 classic though)
Yeah the drive to get this armor is REALLY pulling at me, I NEED to find a way to get it. It's pure bullocks that it's offered but we cannot get it. I WILL find away... I don't care if it's mods or what have you. The game offers it, then I have a right to get it. Ha.
Sorta like a similar plague on us all "suuuure you can 'backup' YOUR legally purchased DVD media, but you cannot circumvent any and all protections placed on said medium..." BS...

isn't it legally okay, if u keep it to yourself for your personal use (aka don't distribute it to others) ?
i mean u did buy the product (hopefully), i mean u can break the product (the CD) if u want. so why not be able to change or tinker with it. as long as u don't take that knowledge and gain from it ? (well, i can understand if it's some kinda secret thing, like techonology of how something works or whatever, but simply changing a game's set parameters isn't really messing or altering the actual coding of the game itself...i don't think...
oh well.... i don't know anything about law and legality, including copyrights/patents and what's okay and what's not (except the federal warning on all movies, lol, that's pretty clear...though how many people have gone to federal prison for 5 years for pirating movies i wonder-curious ???).
Eh... technically yes, if they want to prosecute you they could under the DMCA... BUT it would cost so much to do so, it's become more or less on the level of J-walking; civil-disobedience by consumers. Each of which could be enforced, it's just not economical to do so. (Thank goodness!) Crosswalks? LOL.

whether u jaywalk or not i think more depends on the good or bad driving of the people around u in cars or trucks... :P
when people are bad enough drivers, even sidewalks are scary and dangerous!

when I still played diablo 1 I used the -damage from enemies items while leveling up.
I think these were the two unique rings from the well quest (I did it twice lol) and the unique armor from a hidden chamber; that gave my mage the awesome -4dmg from enemies, which rocked :-)
-4dmg (-dmg armor for that matter) doesn't do much, after a certain level... What c/mlvl are you referring to?

1-10 perhaps; realistically more like 1-8
