Hello all. I've been away from the game for several years now and have just gotten back into it the last week or so. I've been playing on US East. After some online updating of Windows Explorer (to version 7) and XP (to service pack 3) I get the following message:

"Unable To Connect

Unable To Connect To Battle.Net

If using a modem you may need to connect to your
internet service provider before connecting to
Battle.net. For more information please visit
www.battle.net/support/errormessages"

I can connect to US West, Europe and Asia just fine. I've done the following:
rebooted
deleted battlenet cache file
complete reinstallation of D2 and LOD.

Still the same message. I'm not using any bots, hacks, etc. and I'm not banned for leaving/entering games too quickly (I've gotten that message once before.) The only solution I'm seeing is wiping my drive and reinstalling XP and NOT updating it. Any less drastic i.e. less time consuming solutions will be much appreciated.

Also - Although I've done the full installation of the game/expansion before downloading the latest patch (1.12a) I get a prompt to insert the expansion disc when I load the game.

Thanx.

To get 1.12a to be no-cd you need to copy the three .mpqs which the installer doesn't copy over. Open up your hard drive installation and the CD and whatever .mpq is on the CD move to the HD.

As for the can't connect try this (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21138).

Thanx. After doing everything possible without doing anything drastic I finally did the drastic and wiped my drive, reinstalled my OS/programs/games/etc. When I logged onto USEast I got this: ""Unable To Connect..." GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
I'm still able to play on USWest. Clicking around on the battle.net site led to to a support form for me to fill out. Here's the reply:

"Greetings, ****

If you have tried all the normal Battle.net connection solutions at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/20792 and still cannot connect to Battle.net, your Battle.net access may have been temporarily suspended for one of the following reasons:

- Spamming text in the chat channel (often associated with bots)
- Rapidly connecting/disconnecting to Battle.net (often associated with bots or switching between characters)
- Repeated attempts to use an invalid CD-Key
- Repeated use of an invalid or incorrect password may lock an account login for your protection
- Repeated use of third-party programs (hacks) - these include but are not limited to sending bad packets, flooding the server(s), and the use of hack programs

13 days???!!! So the lvl 5 guy that's holding my Homunculus, Ume's, and Vipermagi will be poofed into the void by the time I can get back in? The fact of the matter was I was in a game for 15-20 minutes and left - tried to join a new game and got a message that I see whenever I close my eyes for more than a blinks length. The only thing I can think of is that they've done an IP ban and that my IP is shared among other people (my ISP is Cricket Wireless) because I'm guilty of none of the offenses that Blizzard listed in their letter to me. 10 to 1 says that friggin' cagepiroski bot is still spamming away 3/4 of the playscreen while I sit and twiddle my thumbs waiting. Thanks Blizz. While I appreciate the efforts to ban the bots I'm reading about people being banned for spamming amplify damage and iceblast.
