View Full Version : The "Things I f'n love about D3" thread

Seeing as how there always seems to be active thread about what sucks about D3 .. autostats, globes, art direction .. bla bla .. I decided to create a thread which lists the things we f'n LOVE about the game that will knock the haters' socks clean off when it comes out.. I'll start ..
I f'n love:
that skeletons cackle.
The witch doctor goes "Brrrooowaa" .. and "oojubujaa" when he casts spells.
The devs regard the wizard's skills as a "Light Show."
The Devs took inspiration for Arcance Orb from cosmological phenomenon.
Skeleton summoners summon skellies by shooting laser like projectiles onto the ground.
The fact that Blizzard (Wiz skill) looks more authentically like a real blizzard.
When the skeleton King hits the ground with his mace, he projects three maces coming down .. looks sick.
Rune drops that manipulate skills. Brings back the D1 feeling of getting skills from drops.
The fact there are gonna be random adventures.
Spectral Blade, Furious Charge, Seismic Slam, Slow Time, Ground Stomp, Meteor. ---> yup no WD skills yet
1000 lbs of pure rage!
List what u f'n love about the game! :coffee:
No swearing or bypassing the word filter please.

Hey, i wasn't trying to . You kno How people will say Effin A .. or get that effn job .. i kno its masking a bad word, but its a part of accepted colloquial vocab .. BUT don't worry.
In the future, I'll be as clean as a whistle
Masking it or not, it's not allowed here.
Also.. and I'm not trying to be mean or anything, you are on an internet forum so please post in correct English, I.E. "I know" instead of "i no" or i kno".
Posting in correct English helps those reading your post understand what you are saying, also many forum members tend to ignore postings in what has been lables ad AOL chatroom/kiddie speak.
Thanks, and enjoy your stay.

I dig the stained glass motif used throughout the game, such as in the Blizzard Entertainment logo and on the character inventory screen. It looks fantastic, and fits the gothic mood of Diablo.
I love that there's a Diablo III being made, and that I'll have a chance to experience the magic all over again

Yup, pretty much. Just knowing it will eventually make it's way into my hands makes me happy. :smug:
Well, first of all, I like everything in D3 so far!
And most of all (probably the only one) I like the not player-customized attributes thing.
With D2 I always have the idea I mess them up :)

Yes boss. Got it. We cannot be butchering the Queen's English! :whistling:
Health and Mana orbs.
I don't think people realize how big of a change this will be. While playing recently I've come to realize that if I do well I run around with full mana/health pots and it's only after I kill an enemy that I actually need any, of course they tend to drop a few so I usually pot up and then grab them to keep a full stock. Which makes you realize how well this mechanic could work.
Removing this cumbersome aspect of game play is going to be sooooo smooth. I can't wait. I'd say it's genius but in some ways it's almost a no brainer.
1. That finally we get D3 after so many years. Shame on Blizzard for taking forever!
2. The Witch Doctor - The character looks cool, he has pets and he burns stuff up!
3. As like all Diablo games I will be looking forward to the story and lore of the game.
4. I will finally have a legitimate excuse to tell my girlfriend that I can't make it to her family dinner on Sundays. " Sorry but I'm playing Diablo 3 "
I would also like to add in the same vein of elements that don't quite have to do with the game that Thomas started...I am excited that Diablo III will replace WoW as my fix because WoW is too much for my weak mind and as much as DIII might be addicting, it's addicting in a more...healthy way. :D

Well, gald to see a topic about this, i got sick of all the topics about "i hate D3", "boycott D3", "This is not D3", .. blah blah blah XD
Sigh ... now let's see:-
-The art style, the second i laid eyes on the art and watched the gameplay vid when D3 site first came online i knew there are some very talented artists behind the art direction ... it simply rocks .. i specially love the painterly textures .. it makes the game feel like a living breathing work of art.
-The health globes .. gone are the cumbersome teleport journeys every minute to buy new potions .. gone are the spammable potions ... now we can fight uninterrupted and have more fun .. not only that .. but killing monsters now is way more rewarding .. not only do they drop items and gold and give XP ... now they drop the globes that your very life depends on.
-The Runes, the idea of having random rune drops that are used to augment the skills is very interesting, it really adds to the randomness of the game and achieves exactly the goal it was meant for .. bring back the joy of having random skill drops (i.e D1) while keeping it balanced.
-The random adventures, now venturing through the game will be way more fun and exciting, you will never now what you will find around the corner, and never any two play-throughs will be the same .... it's not about the main quests anymore .. we now got random adventures and class specific quests too .. we will have our hands full ^_^
Well .. that pretty much covers the main points.
Oh ... i almost forgot ... *smacks everyone who hates D3 on the head* ... be freaking happy we got D3.

for me the main one is the Barbarian looks huge, muscular and altogether badass. the only other game i can think of where the barbarian character has looked right is the Norse character in Loki, loved that.
i also noticed the Witch Doctor make the noises when he casts spells etc, thought that was really amusing as ide never noticed it before.
LOVE the art Direction too, kind of looks like Silverfall, only better... obviously.
but the game itself... ahhh the game... neeed itttt baaaddddddd or ill go  .

Things I f’n love:
I generally love the art direction and creativity. Their style really wowed me so far.
-I f’n LOVE how they reinvented the Barb by turning him into the ‘old, experienced, bitter and pissed off veteran.’ They didn’t just reintroduce another young dude. The barb is actually the same from DII but AGED and OLD, complete with grey hair. But of course they’re still pissed off and fiery as ever. Major bonus points to creativity.
It really feels immersive when you get to play the old barb in DIII, because you feel like you really knew him through the courses of DII. You as a player is defeating Diablo again, and you feel just as pissed off, bitter and jaded just like the very barb you’re playing.
-I f’n also LOVE how they handled WIZARD. I’m all for deviating from the boring conservative and traditional fantasy lore. The Wizard class in DIII are VERY young (teens), arrogant punks who happen to yield amazing power. This new generation goes against the tradition of respecting the magic and the elders.
I feel Blizzard really made the lore for this class very unique. They’re pretty much the young, spoiled yet super talented punks of today’s society in Diablo universe. Another major points to creativity by truly inventing the class instead of another typical sorc like in every other fantasy games/novels/movies.
Like the game so far, but I Love and truly appreciate the creative direction. Cant’ wait for future class announcements.

Also forgot to mention how much I love the new bosses. They all have their long intro to quickly build their character and lore. They don’t just pop out of nowhere and simply be strong because it’s time for a boss, you can tell art directors wanted you to get into them. A few examples:
*Thousand pounder is made by cultists worshipping and virgins dancing and sacrificing themselves. In that brief 10 second intro, you are already immersed by the boss and it’s effectively creeped me out they did such gruesome ritual to summon the boss.
*The big *** siege engine is introduced by moving in the backdrop few times several levels before actually meeting him. This starts to build up excitement and gets you pumped up and scared. Remember the NPC yelling, “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?” Then when he does show up, he bursts out through the wall and yells out a fearsome howl. That’s pretty bad ***. You as a player is very involved to finally battle him, complete with his ‘backstory encounter’.

Excellent analysis of the lore. It was refreshing to read how you pieced together the different elements of the game and how they function. Great post
Indeed I too love the art as well as many other things. I love how its not cartoonish but more raw comic book style art.

Thanks. I wrote them hastily before leaving work and boss catching me. I just re-read them and I realize grammar and punctuation are just absolutely embarrassing.
It's a good thing you still managed to understand the message conveyed through the horrid abortion of a writing.

wow I didnt know about those 2 bosses in particular, that sounds great! I had only seen the king leoric video and the intros for bosses will just be another thing that will make this game the best ever!
The wizard game play video...
I effin' love most things about D3 that I've seen so far!
I love new playable classes!
I love the WD's grunts and jibba jabba!
I love that bosses will have fatalities!
I love the new graphics!
I love the environments!
I love the Wiz's orb weapon and slow time spell!
I love that the Barb is a grizzled, hardened old veteran!
I love that ghouls can scale walls like goblins in LotR!
I love the Skeleton King!
I love the new weapon FX, like the Barb's ice and lightning enchanted axes!
I love that we can choose the gender of our class!
I don't think I can wait for D3's release. After watching the videos, I just can't go back to playing D2. I don't think I've ever anticipated a game this much before! I'm gonna go insane!
And I hope it comes out on consoles, too!

anyway, i dig the new cooperative nature of looting items since each player gets their own drops
Thing I love about D3?
-When the barbarian cut off Cain before he was about to say his trademark "come, stay awhile and lis..."
-Zombie wall
-skill runes
-new physicals engine!
-3D but still isometric, glad it's not first person or third person 3D
-less bland environment
-edges of map aren't blocked by some stone wall, instead it's blocked by a thicket or something else better looking
-character skill may be a bit over exaggerated but not overly animated like the ones in Cabal Online or Conquer Online yet it definitely looks better and more intriguing

the simple fact that its a continuation of d2 warrants my purchase of it already.
whatever comes , it will be definately awesome
I'm just lovin the fact that there is going to be a D3. What i've seen it looks fantastic.
I've tended not to buy into all the i hate this and that about D3 and stopped reading D3 threads for that reason. This one just caught my eye.

Echod, please, this is a what do you like about D3 thread, let's keep it there, I think we all understand the bypassing or not bypassing the wordfilter now.
What I like about D3 is, for starters, there will be a D3. It allready has me giddy with excitement and I still have to wait for months (probably) before I can finally install it and ruin my social life again.
Second, I like Visom's comment on the 3D but still isometric. BIG plus imho, I don't like pure 3D, and best of all, my wife brought me to play D2 and can now also play D3 because if it would have been pure 3D , she would have gone nauseous because she can't stand pure 3D.
I like using the surroundings
I like choosing your gender for each class
Well, really, there is too much for me to state what I love about it. It basically comes down to, when I look at the teaser movies, I get the feeling that everything is well thought out, it looks ready, it looks really really fun.

Things I copulating love about d3:
-All those cheaters from d2 are going to be left in the dark crying for their mom to help them through act 1 because they're so used to being spoiled and d3 isn't going to let us have dupes.
-No mass potion spamming.
-Auto stats (Blizzard has got the cojones to take power away from us).
-HC mode fixed (no TPPK). It won't be a ghost town like it is now.
-No returning to town all the time.
-Unlimited ammo.
-Way more skills than d2.
-Way more items promised than d2 had.
-Way more customization promised than d2 had.
-New improved features for bnet2.
-No griefing (hostile button)
-DPS shown.
-Arcane damage resist added.
-Mods that add exp.
In conclusion, what I fornicating love about d3 is it will be a test of true RPG skill where those of us who play legitimately (i. e. don't buy items from online sites) will be rewarded and will become powerful. Those who suck big time, those who are impatient, those who cheat, will be stuck in noobville forever until they learn to invest some time and effort into the game.
You panzies who rely on grushes and buying dupes are going to be surprised at how hard d3 is.

Yup, no problem. I pretty much felt the same way everytime I logged on to the forums .. there was always a new thread that popped up nagging about something. As this thread emphatically proves, there is so much positive and exciting things to look forward to, it certainly makes those negatives seem smaller in comparison.

If you have a problem with the word filter take it up with an administrator. Don't try to fight it out in other people's threads.
Effin isn't a word, but everyone knows what it stands for and what it is supposed to mask. We don't like that and rather see the word filter in action.
Both you and Echod16 are warned to stop abusing the word filter.

The most exciting feature for me is that loot drops just for each person. This will go so far in increasing how much people want to play together.
Think about d2, and the Mfing/baal/sant runs.
People will want to play together even more to do these things.
Echod, please, this is a what do you like about D3 thread, let's keep it there, I think we all understand the bypassing or not bypassing the wordfilter now.
So, I can't sing my favorite Flight on the Conchord's song? Help, help, I'm being repressed!

: )
I like the ability to use the environment to help kill baddies, though I'm not sure if this will be a significant part of gameplay
For me, it's the sounds that really bring the nostalgia. The bubbly potion sound and the twanging of bows straight out of D1. I also love love love love that Skeletons cackle and the Witch Doctor has his chants and screams. I hated playing silent characters in D2, only making noise when they're hurt or their inventory was full. Voice really adds to the character.
I also like... Tornado, a true Leap Attack, Locust Swarm, Magic Missile. And Cleave. Cleave is awesome. At first I was like "hm. That's cool I guess." but it's really grown on me. Just something about smacking two enemies at once is bound to be incredibly useful.

I'll join those who love the painterly look, and I love the sound of the random adventures too. Randomization is one of the things I've always loved about this series :) Other games have tried it, but none of em gets it quite right :(
I love the recycled sounds from D2. Its a nice call back and gives that familiar feel mixed in with the holy cowlevel this is D2 in 3D.
I really like the idea of health orbs. Spamming potions felt more like cheating than legit game play.
*PS Cowlevel would rock! Hearing the barely realistic Moos of the devs every time you killed one was sweet.

The over the top nature of the boss encounter.
The mobs that climbed the walls to get to you LOTR style.

Don't get your hopes up. They've failed once.
Back then, though, their enemy was townkill, autokill, monster freeze hacks and hacks to steal items or outright item editors. You couldn't enter a D1 game without someone either dropping a duped Godly plate of the whale (which they 'found' even though you can't actually 'find' it), wearing a(n unspawnable) Lightforge mace in every item slot, killing everything with a hacked staff with 255 apocalypse charges or killing you with hacked heal other or corrupting your character.
......
What I love: D1 had a very straightforward Heaven vs. Hell storyline but managed to be creepy due to it, then D2 jumped the shark with a rocket-powered jetski with a disco ball on it, and D3 seems to be returning to the dark D1 style.
There is much more lore this time round and the time period has a lot of potential, with both Hell and Heaven about to destroy Sanctuary and the reappearance of the nephalem.
Also: the game seems to look a lot more violent and powerful. You get to make earthquakes and make monsters fly in all directions and the monsters crawl up walls and bosses eat your head.

D1 FELT darker because it was first.
D2 just had a lot of above ground stuff which was a huge focus change.
The best parts always were underground. I hope that most of the fighting remains there with very short focused above ground segments. The clip they showed in the announcement video was astoundingly good. If it's all like that it will be fantastic. Unfortunately, it probably can't all be that good. you have to have filler in any game sadly.
I just hope it has the replayability. That means the one thing they cannot blow is the itemization. They sort of already have.
What I Love About Diablo 3
- The new art look
- The increased mob size
- The Witch-Doctors flaming ball
- Physics!
- The Mirror-Image spell
- The two following archers
- Random Side Quests!!!
- The fact Diablo 3 has eventually arrived! :D
- A lot more stuff I cant think of right now :)

I forgot to mention something i liked but it got removed !!!
The close up camera and characters animations during conversations was IMO very immersive and seeing a close up view of our characters talking and interacting with other characters made them feel more real and makes it easier for us to relate to them in the SP (specially that they are always so tiny on screen most of the time)
I understand the reason Blizz removed it for but still they could have just added an option to turn it on/off or skip it and listen to voice or text conversation only.
I mean come on .. it's 2009 .. cut scenes (even if they are just short conversation) are a must for any game that wants to tell a decent story even if it is an action game it is still also an RPG .. and story telling is important .. you can't depend on FMVs for that .. that's why D2 & D1 never really felt it had or told a compelling story .. the D3 devs said they wanted to make D3 SP more story focused so why remove something the aided the story telling .. watching the scenes would have also been a good break from monster bashing so that we don't get sore hands.
And how come the cut-scened characters are wearing different armour? :/
Knight_Wolf
09-03-2009, 11:22
And how come the cut-scened characters are wearing different armour? :/
What are you talking about .. The character won't be wearing a different armor from the one they wear in-game at all (didn't you watch the gameplay vid) .. the cutscenes use the in-game graphics .. so if you are wearing any armor it will appear as it is in the cutscene.
This cutscenes problem has been solved in other games a long time ago (previously the either had to make different versions of the cutscenes or just swallow that the character looks different in the cutscene .. not any more)
the cutscenes use the in-game graphics .. so if you are wearing any armor it will appear as it is in the cutscene.
In the cut-scene with Cain in the initial Barbarian Gameplay Video, the Barbarian is wearing a helm when he speaks to Cain, whereas in the video he is not.
That's because they wanted to show the Barbarian's face.
Who says the NPC close-ups are gone? We haven't seen any NPCs but Cain and Captain Rumford, and I doubt they'd bother to program a skit for such a small character as Rumford.

True

Sadly that's the case ... the close up cutsecnes are gone for now ... Blizz stated they took the player away from the action (which i disagree with .. too much continuous action with no breaks at all could get monotonous) ... if you watch the gameplay vids after Blizzcon08 you will see that all conversations happen from a top down view and you can actually walk around and even fight during it.
Vids After Blizzcon? What vids? I've seen home-movies of the blizzcon demo. Is there something you're not telling me?

There's lots of stuff I really like about d3, but this is the stuff I'm flat out in love with:
"Painted" art look
personal drops
rune system
barbs fury(I hope we get other class specific game mechanics)
destructible environments
random quests
Those are the ones that stand out most strongly to me.

Except for the Fury thing (I find it just-fine, nothing exceptionally way cool and totally awesome etc.), I agree.
I do hope the destructable enviroment stays useful on higher difficulties, unlike chest/container traps in D II (even on Normal they sucked after Act 2; and yes, I know they're not useful, but they did become redundant, which was my point). And some diversity is always nice :)
