View Full Version : KTA - All Boys!
After myself, oOmpie, 'turps and Fred completed the game with the 'All Girls' theme last night, with great success (we absolutely steamrolled over Act 5 last night, Nihlathak, Ancients, Throne minions, Baal, all went down very quickly considering the run had dwindled to just the four of us...four that worked very well together!) and we hope to mirror that success with an 'All Boys' theme to see if men can work together as well as the womenfolk did!
As usual, just to clarify for new faces, these are 'Da Roolz'
1) We play every Monday, from around 7:00pm (1900) to 9:00-9:30pm (2100-2130) UK Time, most European players should add one hour onto that for time difference...
2) We play untwinked, (mostly) full clears with all quests completed in each act. (Note: If we feel we need some key items for a certain build and the limited amount of boss-killing/mf-ing we do yields nothing, then we could see some exceptions later on in Hell when it is becoming impossible to fuction as part of the team e.g a WW Barb using a 1-15 Crystal Sword in Hell would be a candidate for a sword muled in from outside of KTA but this is rare!)
Items are to be shared equally and given according to needs of the current party builds etc; if a charm drops, take it by all means, but if you find a 6% Fire Res charm and yours is already in the 50's and you are a caster, check to make sure someone else (like a melee-er) isn't in the 20's etc...it's all amicable play, with the idea in mind of being a strong party!
3) If you decide to join our merry band, please make sure you are there as often as possible...if you think you can't really do Monday's as your schedule is too hectic, don't sign up, sorry, its just rather a bad thing to have a group of 6 in theory, and end up playing with half that all the time but absence is usually posted in the thread beforehand with reason so it's never a problem but excuses of "I could not be bothered" don't cut it...commit people!
4) We meet in channel KTA before each session to discuss, mule off items before playtime commences etc and if the channel is empty, you are late and we are in-game already! The game name and password is given in-channel so please arrive promptly.
5) Most of all, we respect each other and have FUN. We are out to kick the minions of Hell in a challenging way, why not do it as a group of mates eh?!
6) Members of the old run get priority placement on the new run but there will be many spaces left, as well as reserve spaces, so join up today!

I will probably change my mind on the character build, as I want people to post their thoughts and feelings on this theme (and if they really dead-set on wanting to have a Fanaticism Paladin in whatever guise then we can swap!) and we can try to build another well-rounded party if we all agree on it. As said in channel post-Baal butt kicking, a Pimp will be involved again so we are super tanky, some poison and elements needed as well as some hardcore DAMAGE! Fanaticism should help us deliver that damage fast and hard and using a Blessed Aim merc or HoW from a Druid should help keep the AR up as we can't have chant!

Errrr, I didn't take a screenie and I think I should have, as Tom was the screenie guy and he let oOmpie control his Pimp I think we lost sight of who was doing what a lil bit...some screenies were taken and we'll see who posts what!
Fair play dude, glad to see you in and I like the build idea as that covers one of the needed elemental damages very well and gives us some handy tools to play with in the form of (BO-able!) spirits and pets! Keep it coming peeps!

Im rather amused at the idea of joining one of these types of runs and it would trump my online solo playing . So Im willing to make an account ( on Europe ) I assume if this is like 9pm to 11pm central time ? If not Im going to try and get in on the next Us East version ...

Hoping to start next week if we acually get all the places filled and people decide on their builds...so far the party is very well rounded; Speed and Phys Dmg from me, Fire from Adam, Pimpin' and Phys from oOmpie and Poison from yourself...could do with some Cold and Light from somewhere (although cold we can make do with on a HF Merc at the very least!)

Thought about two palabuilds. Either some kind of holy shocker-din (powerranger or HS-zealot) or a cleric. If we got enough elemental dmg i'll make a cleric. As it looks now we already got two melee chars so i might ditch the zealer.

Could go FoH/Conviction if you still wanted the Light damage dude and the synergies from Holy Bolt could cross over into being a hybrid Cleric although skill points might become mega-tight...just a thought but yes, Cleric would be nice and if you did go down the FoH route it would give you something to do (why I picked Fire Wall after maxing 'chant as I felt a lil useless!) between healing...

I'm sure it's possible to combine those two builds, but as we play untwinked with very limited gear i'm afraid it won't be very efficient. Ofcourse, if we got lots of elemental damage in our team, then the FoH/conviction-build is definitely an option.

Hmmm, I'm not too sure which char to play. I've done a pally and drood in previous runs. I've not made a throw barb for many years. That has potential or maybe a boner.

Ooooh if you did make a Throw Barb you would love my Fanaticism! We'd sit at the back pinging projectiles at things!
Magic damage is a gap that we haven't filled with anything yet dude so rock on with it...I steered well clear of it this time as I don't want to kill anyone like last time lol.
We still have a few of the elements to cover, although Cold can be covered by a Holy Freeze merc and we don't have to have them all covered but it is still useful! I'm tempted to chage to a Shock Ranger to cover the Lightning element but the Fanaticism will be sorely missed...I see us, in true man stylee, going with bashing the bejeezuz out of them with some elements thrown into the mix for flavour!

Actually thought about doing that, but since still have a lvl 88 leaper around which gets played every now and then I started thinking about the frenzier.

That would take care of cold damage from Hurricane and if you had the Holy Freeze merc you'd be cold city...

As some of you might know, I'm a software programmer by education, but for the last 7 years I have chosen to work with kids and teaching rather than spending 8 hours a day in front of a screen. I have never regretted this, and I love my work. However the boss at the youth-centre, where I work part-time, convinced me 4 years ago to make a member-system with a login-klient, since he wasn't able to find one suitable for his purposes for sale. I implemented the system and it was such a success, that it is currently used exclusively in all youth-centres in my kommune. And now other clubs/centres from other kommunes are asking for copies as well. This has led me to the conclusion, that there may be a market for such an application, and together with my girlfriend, I have decided to expand the program while upgrading it to VB.net (it was originally made in VB6 :embarassed:) and see if we can make a little profit on it. This will require a significant amount of my spare time, as the program itself is quite large in size, and I will also need to establish contact with vendors of magnetic cards and readers (not to mention trying to market it once it is done).
My spare time will thus be limited and valuable and this has forced me to choose between activities to participate in. I'm sorry to say, that KTA will not be one of them - even if I did have loads of fun and made some excellent friends, there simply isn't room for 3 hours of leisure every monday.

Awww dude that is extremely gutting as you have been a brilliant member of our team and I would have loved to seen you stay on for many runs to come!
Well, I thank you for your short time with us and hope you can return one day after your (quality I must say) business venture settles down from the initial chaos! (saying that, it probably never will, as my property venture just keeps getting bigger when I wanted it to be a gentle job!)

Believe it or not, I do make a point to read your progress reports, so I keep up with you lot, even if it's only in lurker mode.
I haven't played D2 in well over a year, and I don't think I'll get the sudden urge to do so (never say never, though !). Life is busy and I don't really have enough time to do all I want in World of Warcrack. Not sure what will happen when D3 comes out, but from what I've seen so far, it hasn't grabbed my attention and got me drooling in anticipation.
Needless to say, if anyone is interested in trying WoW, just give me a yell. Otherwise, keep up the good fight and above all, have fun.

one nbaba should max shout and the other BO i think personally. But if u guys wanna use ur chars after KTA is all over and done with that may not be in your best interest. We hopefully can find some good throw weapons. Theres alot of kicky uniques out there. If the worste comes down to it you can use blue ones with elemental damage or whatever.

Elo folks, so, it seems the thread hasnt moved that much over the weekend so I suggest we get into channel tonight for a bit of discussion and finalizing who's using what, the current ideas from everyone sitting together well and if we decide not to start tonight (i'd rather we started with oOmpie than without him although at this early stage catching him up won't be an issue...) at least we will be totally ready for next week but if you all want to kick butt who am I to stop you eh?! Regular KTA'ers will know what a stormy relationship me n the missus had, had being the operative word, as she has finally left me for good for spending too much time gaming/roleplaying and such so i'm quite eager to kick the poop out of things tonight!

I would have done earlier but i've been waiting at the doctors to syringe my stoopid ear...waited 20 mins before I got up to ask why my name hadn't been called...turns out I need to click/clock/tap, and many other words, in for your appointment...not like the old days and after all those shenannigans I still can't hear a damn thing!
Right, that over with, the 'All Boys' session kicked off to a flying start, it seems that the party must blend well together again as we absolutely murdered Act 1 and Radament at double pace! I don't think I saw one NDE, maybe a half life drop from someone due to a Light Ench monster but that was about it...Andy went down like the cheap ho she is and same with Rada (go go Ivan's CE although he can only get off one or two, bless! :P )
No notable finds, not a set or unique at all...bunch of decent rares and I built a pimp Hunters Bow (chip sapp, chip topaz and a 20 poison damage jool!) which is helping me kill nicely! I put a further point in Might by accident at the start but with no combat skills to max it shouldn't hurt my build!
Info for the catchy-uppers (oOmpie, Adam and Snop), here are the builds:

Werewolf wind druid KTA-ArseBlast is well underway.
Almost lvl 12, no notable finds as of yet. Gambled a somewhat decent light belt and found a club with ctc amp.
We need to decide whether we are to pimp the spirits or not. Myself I was thinking about lvling HoW, but perhapos that would be more suitable to the FC bear, in which case I will prolly pimp Oak.

Lol, as I read your first sentence dude I immediately thought of spirits and your logic is perfect; the Bear gets the HoW and the Windy gets the Oak...makes perfect sense and they will both be buffed by the BO so they survive...I can see the party getting a little brutal methinks...

Unfortunately KTA-ArseBlast.v1 has succumbed to a brainfart...
I accidentally deleted the dude when I decided to purge the rune mules from previous runs from my KTA account.
I hate to say it may turn out very difficult for me to get KTA-ArseBLast.v2 (windy, but no werewolf yet) completely lvled up for next Monday, since I wil be off all weekend. I did get him up to lvl 12 again, but like I said further progress will be hard to make.
I'll just see how far I can get.
Good news is I found a Gull in Tamoe.
Managed to squeeze in a little game time tonight, currently lvl 15 and made it to catacombs wp.
I'm toast now, off to bed. This is prolly as far as I'm gonna get for Monday.

We totally steamrolled from the start of Act 2 last night, punching through all the way to the Great Marsh waypoint in Act 3!
As a team, we can take on all situations (kudos to me for putting points into the single element auras for the beetles in Act 2!!) and everything dies in our path!

When I quit playing diablo (early on the ladder), I gave away all of my items to friends here. Now one of those friends have quit playing and he gave me back the equipment, I handed him. It's not much, but it's enough for some fella to make a decent crack at hardcore. If I give it to the KTA for safe-keeping, I trust you will use it, sell it or toss it as you see fit. More encouragement for you to play now, although, speaking of which, I don't think I will be playing on Thursday dude, as much as I want to, but by the time I get on it might be somewhat later due to it being my birthday and i'm going to go see people after band practise...all depends on what goes down that day, as one party I want to see is ill, but I will keep you posted

Great - I'm so glad that the stuff will find some use. Just tossing it didn't feel right. Especially the +3 elem/25idr blue amulet attracted some interest when I posted it in the trade forum and the Magic Items Showoff thread. So unless someone is planning on using it, it could be used to acquire some cool stuff for a KTA fund. Sending you a PM too.

We have the Bird and the Eye of Khalim and got up to the Great Marsh waypoint in Act 3, it's running very very quick at the mo and most of us haven't even got end-game skills! Very scary! I would say i'd help catch up but I will be wasted as of tomorrow until Sunday, sorry!

I had to rebuild my PC this weekend - Vista was getting uppity!
So I am going triple boot - WinXP, Vista (64 bit), Win 7
I completed XP late last night and installed D2 :)
So I sacrificed some sleep to be here this evening!
(Yes I'm a trooper!)
So KTA members for tonight (so far) is now.........1! :)

Yeah she did most of what I needed but I had to strong arm her sometimes! :) - LOL
The fun part (yeah right) was moving over a TB of data from the main disk!
ATI 9.2 drivers refused to install, getting windows unhandled exception errors - might be with SQL Server 2008 and Full Visual Studio 2008 being on the box not sure, I needed XP back for a few choice apps too.
Going to install the SQL/VStudio and Exchange in a VM environment.
A terrabyte?! Man! My computer wouldn't even know what one was! Re-installing is a pain in the butt! I use SQL at work to run Gemini (Property Management prog) so I can relate to it being a pain, but needed!
KTA-ArseBlast will be letting some go tonight as well :D
Man, I'm glad I didn't have catching up to do this week...
My old Quake addiction came back to haunt me when I got a late invitation to the Quake Live (http://www.quakelive.com) closed beta test (public beta should open somewhere tomorrow, iirc) last week and it's completely got me by the balls... again...

THe problem was re-shuffling items on the C Drive............
SQL Server 2008 has a pain in the *** installer - its demands a file be installed before main install - but it would not let me install it so catch 22 WTF microsoft!!
So i modded the registry - weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Hopefully we get a nice squad tonight

I did a bit o muling things around, few MF runs, nothing really dropped, killed normal Duriel with my Smiter, traded Pul for a 39 vit Dungoes for him, all I need now is Dracs, GA, Guillarmes and Gores and he's good to go get levels!
Great run last night and thanks to Adam and Mike for getting in on this, we are even more of a steamroller now and I think we shall have to go back to imposing restrictions on builds and rules to make it more difficult as we a re pw0ning face a bit too much! :smug:

We did some normie Baalruns to get some levels/drops (nuffin', afair) and more importantly, not jump ahead too far with quests, but the steamroller nature of our party meant we ended up with a full staff ready to do Duriel by the end of the session! I reckon if we went straight to Nightmare we would be halfway through Act 3 by now!
Mike didn't log on either, so can you get a message to him (I tried msg-ing his acc, but he wasn't on...get him to add the KTA posse please dude!) about catching up please!

We also found some nice itamamzzz too. I'm now sporting an IK Helm coupled with my BO boom sticks gives me BO at level 27 now. Ivans' MF is through the roof. We've a generals ding dang doo stashed for someone (can't remember name of the KTA'er). There was a lot of low level uniques but it's now Wednesday and I cannot remember them all. Soz.
In short though, we're destroying Nightmare and we're finding some nice stuff.

disaster has struck yet again.
We started catching up adam and fred questwise doing rhada and summoner and moved onwards from there. Sailing was smooth up to the Council where we lost our (70+ something stat points unspent, iirc) poisonmancer to Geleb's death spasm...
Funny thing was hardly 2 minutes before adam was like: "Don't nobody go and die to FEs now" when we approached Travincal.
Apparently Ivan likes to check the decomposition of poisoned demon flesh up close and personal and this turned into another case of "curiosity killed the cat". It was like 5 minutes before closing up shop, so we looted his corpse and went to a norm game to hand his stuff over to the reincarnation, aptly called KTA-FEhater.

My Blizz Sorc is non-twinked in the way I have only stuff I found on the ground, NOTHING else. Will that work?
Would have been fine under normal circumstances dude but the theme for this run is 'All Boys' and she is a smelly girl! Didn't metion that earlier as I wanted to get the point across of untwinked and thought that you read the thread!
In this run there is a Windy Druid (oOmpie), a Fire Claws Druid (BoD Trader), a ThrowBarb (drinkturps), a Medic Pala (PestinReace), a Fanatic Ranger Pala (me) and a Poison Necro (Krazeyivan)...what build do you think you should bring to the run? I'm happy with anything really, the wackier the better!
As I see you are now a gauss member (i'm op 71 in gauss but not on during the day to help!) I would suggest logging into the channel, if you are free during the day, and seeing if Adam (BoD Trader: adam_adam) or Fred (PestinReace: HaveMercy) are in and kindly asking them to help you catch up if you want in on this run...I will be on eventually tonight (TheDK) to sort you and Ivan out, as outlined above although the problem we will be faced with is a fresh new character with no items due to being rushed into this run...
It's not like the above hasn't been done before though as I, myself, on my very first KTA session joined late and got rushed a wee bit to catch up and the party agreed that I could make reasonable runewords I would have found myself like Stealth and Anc Pledge to help said character out a bit and I made a Spirit as I found the sword and Amn and Thul myself on the way and we deduced that the party as a whole would have hypothetically found extra Tal's and Ort's at the stage they were at in the run for me to have used if had been there from the start!
So in conclusion, get on it like grease on a chickenbone dude or stay a gauss member and enjoy the community until the new run rolls around; no half measures! :tongue:
EDIT: P.S I won't be around this weekend to help rush people either as I will be attending The Great Devourer GW Tournament @ Newbury Racecourse...just FYI...i'm sure others will be around if needed!

As far as builds go the group is very strong atm so your pretty much free to come up with any type of build you want. It doesnt even have to have an attack, could be purely support. But if you ask me a leap attack polearm barb is so the way to go :D. Or if you could think of an insane build i'd be up for seeing it.

I mean, a Necro summoner is just SO weak late game untwinked.

A Mojomancer could be useful, a Holy Shock/Freeze Zealot (although I feel the same about another Paladin as I do another Druid; we have me and Fred on the Pala front so items are hard to squeeze around if we added a third but it wouldn't be terrible, no...I would request you used Spirit of Barbs if you went for a Druid, despite it being crap!) would cover Lightning/Cold as we don't have a dedicated build covering those elements, or Adam's idea above...

Its the last time I ever create a RAID 0 array - its not my main HDD array but god I need those TBs back!!
Stupidly put some of my archive photos/music there temporarily. Took a few hours to get it unclicking (stuck the HDD in the freezer for a while) - yes you read that correctly.
Got the miracle boot so its not being turned off yet :)
Also its in the process of low level HDD surface check....... takes a while, then I'll attempt a rebuild this evening - on an advisory note - keep your old old PC's they are great as Diagnosis rigs - (plug in the HDD and leave in the corner running spinrite software) - thats my other HDD while its waiting :)
Sounds like a tech report that! Anyway my D2 may even have to be via laptop - which should be hilarious fun......

Just want to update you. Got help from a gauss member (thanks Matthesen) so now I'm act 5 and I just have to do some trist runs (trist actually means boring in Swedish, and is spelled like that, so basically they are "boring" runs, hehehe, its SO late).
Anyways, I will most probably be able to join u on monday if there isn't an accident with my char (like DYING :).

That was an interesting session!
We stormed the rest of Act 5 quite nicely, no bloody drops from anything (now that Ivan's MF is gone [he's sticking with Druid Summoner from a previous unfinished KTA...the one before 'All Girls'?!] we wont get a thing!) and even Baal was quite stingy on the few runs we made of him!
I took a screenie of us pw0n1ng the Ancients and Baal, didn't post them as my mate Mel came over and we started drinking...

Howdy fellaz, I been doing some catching up and made Conqueror. It was actually pretty darn easy with the windy. Had to switch to the Moser's though, I got hit pretty often and pretty hard before, but after that it was smooth sailing. Might have helped that I spent those 75 saved stat points too ^^
What lvl are you? I might do some baalies to catch up. Got me a Stormchaser scutum from my baal q drop and 1 pretty hefty merc pole.

We did some baal runs. Nothing exciting dropped but i did shop a 4 sox 47 life armor!!!
I found a pair of magefists in wsk2 and baal dropped that +2 pala skills unique sword that fred is using at the moment. I gambled a +2 elemental 51 life coronet. I think we actually spent most time gambling and shopping :D
But yeah, fred, adam and me just did some baalruns to get us to around lvl 70 I think.

I wont be strting the 1.13 ladder season. It's come at a perfect time for me to quit gracefully for my exams. I dueled off my lvl 93 barb allready. won 2 duels but lost (very marginally) in a duel i thought was impossible for me to win :). I'll be in tomorrow but it could well be my last session.
Is there a date for the ladder reset already?
Coz then I need to start giving away all my stuff ^^
Damn i'm behind! I haven't played D2 in a couple of weeks, probably nearly a month, but this kind of news will bring me back to rip the new ladder up!
Whats the date people? If the reset and patch is indeed within the current KTA run's lifespan then we have to make a choice to carry on and finish (boo!) or start a new run and see what the new patch is providing (yaa!)
I'll definately be a part of a new ladder team if anyone is joining the race? Ivan, i'm looking at you... :tongue:

Come to think about it boys, it's my brothers birthday today (which slipped my mind) so i wont be attending tonights sessions which kinda means that this is probably a goodbye from me. So cya guys and GL in the new season.

I'm building a PC for a client and the HDD just took a wobbler - I'll be able to fix it but its going to cut into my time tonight - so I'll be a possible, will try to catch the 2nd half if it goes well tonight!

I guess things didn't go well then dude? Shame, as my luck was in last night, as a 4 sok superior Shadow Bow, shortly followed by a Sol, dropped at the end of the session so I made a absolute beast of a Harmony! My damage tripled!
After a few Baalruns (not much of note dropped, a phat 20/233 Raven which i'm proudly wearing due to being in the game with only oOmpie and Fred at the time or I would have gave it to 'turps I think! Too late now buddy! :P and a schweet Kelpie, which is now up for grabs as i'm changing Merc's due to the Vigor from my bow taking place of my Blessed Aim from my merc; the other auras are more important!)
we moved onto Act 1 Hell and did up to Dark Wood waypoint and have the scroll, about to do Tristram.
I'm up for finishing this run (now that I can contribute something more than just an aura!) but I think we should start anew when the patch comes in...i'll leave that one open to discussion here dudes!
Looking forward to next week when I can test my damage!
EDIT: When the season is about to kick out, does anyone want to do a mass dueling of their toons? I did this last time with Ivan and Tom and it was effing hilarious! I was weeing myself with laughter the whole time!

I like the sound of this too! I've never done any PvP on this so when the new ladder arrives there's no need to keep them.

I was up for finishing it, being so close to the end n all, but my vote goes for new run upon reset, get a solid team and numbers involved in it sorted and then we have a backup character for the season start :crazyeyes:
