i wish i was the head CEO of blizzard, and I run off with the massive bonuses, and tick off the country (U.S.) like all the other CEO's and laugh watching the report on tv while laying on my bed of money :D

i'm very curious to know just how much (or the most) profit blizzard has made or is making ???

Due to the earlier banning wave that hit my shores, I have since bought two new Diablo II's straight from Blizzard Store and I guess there are people just like me around the globe, making lots of money to Blizzard due to this..

I'm guessing they do it to clean up more then the money.
People leaving with bad impressions (that, for example, the online version of a game is full of cheaters) cost a lot more then the money they make off those Diablo II games sold.

I believe you have a very valid point, with all this new attention on DiabloIII now a days it's important to look back on DiabloII and what is has become since it's initial release date.

If DiabloII looks like it's full of nothing but cheaters then that's a bad omen on blizzards behalf, with recent bannings it shows that Blizzard still check the pulse of the DiabloII community. Every one who was banned has no one to blame but themself, they knew the risk involved with playing DiabloII through 3rd party programs.

I think this thread would be an appropriate place to bring up server-side versus client-side stuff. As far as I know, the problem with d2 is that a lot of stuff is stored client-side, which allows it to be changed (hacked). With games such as WoW, everything except stuff like art assets is stored server-side, presumably giving a greter level of security.

Will D3 be like WoW in this way? And also, why couldn't D2 be converted to be like WoW? Would this even prevent hacks that modify your breakpoints or skills (farcast)?

I guess the logical answer to this is that would really screw up the "action" part of D2. And that Blizzard had already got their hand tied with the new game and WoW, they ain't gonna put that much of work into D2 nowadays. I think the banning is a smart move for them, using a 10 years old game for positive PR move and who's know maybe even extra box sale. Every tiny bit count, right? I mean it's easier to make a point and deliver the message with D2 than to ban and pissed off a lot of hackers in WoW and losing their monthly subscription.

Hi

D2 hacking is client side, that is why the hackers can modify programs or write there own.

If D2 was server side (most games are server side now) then there would have been many mods made to help you in your quests. These mods would not be frowned upon by the d2 community, just like Wow and Warhammer and other mmorpg / mparpg these mods are excepted because no cheating / bots / are being used.

Its the tppk users that has destroyed d2 hc/sc communitys, Blizzard should have rectifyed that loophole years ago. Normal pk is fine but tppk is a joke.

It's not just D2 that is hacked, Wow has it share of problems too.
For instance Blizzard has just won a court case against a bot maker for Wow. The use of this glider bot was frowned on by the legit community but the firm that made it made millions because of cheaters.
Atleast the courts ruled that the bot firm has to pay the millions back to Blizzard (pending an appeal).

D2 is an old game and it has a small multiplayer community but still it lures people back to play, Lets just hope Blizzard will carry on using warden and ban the cheaters.

Feel kind of ashamed asking this, but how does TPPK actually work? I know it somehow get's past the using a tp/wp shortly after hosting someone, but is this all it does?

You can tppk manually actually with a bit of practice.

What you do is spam you main skill (bone spear, blizzard, meteor etc.) and go to town where you press hostile. Do this fast enough and the skill with turn hostile and hit / possibly kill the target.

However, most use programs to do this and this is why tppk is most commonly known as a hack.

You can laugh all you want but it still doesn't make it less true. Although I like the attitude you bring with you.....
