Newcomer forum, right? Level-90 players move along :)

Almost every game I join (rather than Create myself) is plagued by those
stupid "visit blah.com and buy items" spambots. It's cheating, it's annoying, and it covers up half the screen... usually when I'm in the middle of combat with a bunch of monsters. There's a way to keep them OUT of the game, folks!

When you make (Create) a new game, use level restrictions. Those spambots are all level 1, so if, for example, you're level 20 and you restrict the game at 18 (20-18=2), the level 1 spambots can't get in. It also means that players above level 38 can't get in, which might be a drawback, but at least you'll be able to see your screen while you play.

How do I find out what my player level is? I need to know if I have to stop posting in this forum.

Also, I don't mean to be rude, but there are dozens of threads here about that. Using level restrictions is not new, nor is it the most effective way to keep spam bots out.

Password protected games, keeps 100% of spambots out. Granted you said you were joining public games so you don't have any control, but when creating your own that's the only way to be sure you won't be spammed.

Well, yes, making password-protected games would keep the spambots out, that's true.

Unfortunately, if I always used passwords and never joined a public game, I'd never
have encountered all those nice people I've played with, chatted with, and added to my friend list. On the off chance that there might be other nice folks out there who I just haven't happened to meet yet, I'd rather not take the drastic step of making all my games password-protected. Thus, level restrictions, which do a fine job of keeping at least *most* of the spambots out. :)

Now off I go to search for other threads on this topic, in hopes of learning other ways to keep my screen clear from spam while I play...

There's only a few ways:

Play in private names, 100% block rate.

Play in games with some sort of level restriction, this is less effective because as said earlier, there are some high level spam bots.

Play Single Player.

Play Single Player.

Little known fact:

Thyiad beams quotes from the SP(T)F rules into your game while you play. The worst spam ever.

just a thought but you could make games with pass and tell people the pass
eg.
act1 read////****
then write pass in the read section

These are what we call private games.
