View Full Version : Doll-safe infinity weapon
My safety lightning sorc (es, SS with max block) has a merc which currently uses eth forty and cv infinity. Since emilio does 4.8k damage at the moment, i won't teleport through doll areas for fear that a one-shot of a doll could hand me my deeds. From arreat i take:
* ‘Bone Fetish’ (exploder) types have 2901-6249 life in 1-player hell games
So, i have to limit my mercs damage to 2.9k tops or i will die while teleporting in a single player game sooner or later.
I'm thinking about making a new infinity in this eth thresher i currently have (dmg 11-211). Assuming ~300% ed from infinity and 300% ed from fortitude, i get a damage of ~2K. Is my calculation correct or am i missing something?
What i like about the eth thresher is that the damage is close to the safe range, and that the weapon is fast. Thus, the merc will deliver its 40% cb more often, which will help against bosses. For killing crowds, chain lightning will handle things anyway, so i don't need to have the big bad eth cv version.
What do you think, should i go with the eth thresher?

So, i have to limit my mercs damage to 2.7k tops or i will die while teleporting in a single player game sooner or later.

I used a NON-eth infinity on my lightning sorcs merc. If you add a 'Treachery' in there it's even faster. I was quite happy with it. Teleporting around dolls never really concerned her... I'm not convinced that a popped doll in a one player game could have killed her anyway, but that was beside the point.
There is one thing it would not do (at least not quickly enough for me to wait for it). It wouldn't kill Lister in a timely fashion if he rolled LI, if baal got his decrepify in there, it was even worse. If I was soloing, I always just lead him out of the room and parked him, it was quicker.
What you said about it being faster and thus, applying CB faster, is kind of moot though... since you will be staticing a lot faster then he'll be hitting and applying Crushing Blow.
Either way, I'd still use the Thresher again if I did it again.

Edit: Just fyi. Most of the reason it was NON-eth is because it's what I had at the time. I'm not sure if the difference between eth and not eth would make a huge difference.

I will check out the treachery as well. By the way, your post about your lightning sorc (sincere condolences!) made me want to try out one for myself (well, the deeds part i will try to leave out...).
So, i started trading to get the high end stuff, like you did. I must say i am really impressed with what dyospark can do at lvl 79. Of course, she's not a max damage build (i wanted to take over some of the orb/tk survivability and thus threw in 1ES/20TK and max block) but 5k cl and 10k lightning already waste everything fast enough with infinity. I was not sure how fast hell baal will go down after those 50%, but from what you say i suspect that i wont have to wait for that cb.

He can be a bit tedious at times, if he wont hold still, or keeps mana burn hosing you (no 'Insight' to replenish when soloing).
SparkySpark always carried a Lower Resist wand on switch (with a Mosers, 2x PDiamond) just for Baal (ok... and the Seal packs, but that's not what this thread is about). So if you've got a CTA on switch, that might slow things down a bit more. She also did more damage, so another difference.
/de-rail.
I still vote the Thresher, but it might not hurt to wait a see what others have to say.

Say, where did you find the 4 Ber runes, 2 Mal runes and 2 Ist runes to make up two Infinity(ie)s? I'd love to know where that is, since in my 6+ years of playing Diablo, I have only found the runes needed to make one Infinity.

Trade for them. They're worth nothing on East right now, and probably similar in Europe where Dyolf is.

I traded a lot of my dusty sc stuff and got a completed infinity in a CV and the runes for making one myself. Playing selffound for all those years got me too many mules with nice equipment. When i decided to give the game a new twist and try out what i can do with high-end runewords, it was time to sell that. I've never traded much before, but started it to get at equipment for my infinity sorc.
While trading, it's interesting to note that high are easy to find, while selffound equipment with the right stats is very valuable. Especially good socketables and rares with the right stat combination have good trade value and will get you the runes for everything you want.
