I'm sure this has been brought up but I'm lazy so I'll just ask a previously asked question and get a link to a thread that answers my question paired with a witty comment.

Anyways, what I was wondering about is the Horadric Cube. Is there any knowledge about its existance in D3?
Surely the Barbarian wouldn't toss away such a precious, and most of all usefull, item ... but then again, all those blows to the head together with +20 years of drinking Baba™-beer and +20 years of age should start some form of dementia I guess...

I haven't read anything about it, but it only seems reasonable that it will be back.

In some ways bringing it back with the same inside dimensions (which is an unwarranted assumption,) means it has to be better since everything only takes one inventory space (which is something we know,) having tht space inside the cube becomes a real bonus. I think we almost have to have the cube because of quests like Kalims will and the horadric staff, plus cubing things like gems seems highly likely to me.

One thing I would like to see, and I alway thought made sense, was that the inside of the cube got bigger when you did the quest in each difficulty level. Here's hoping Blizz will do that.

A cube that got bigger throught quests would be fun. =D
But what I really want from the cube is the hidden uses, like sockets, transmuting potions/gems/runes/arrows/bolts/whatever and crafting. I would really like to see a return of that part of the gameplay.

Hmm, just a thought that I had right now, but what if Cain took and kept the Cube for his own wicked purposes (storage for his infinite amount of identify-scrolls)? That would explain the absense of the Cube but perhaps Cain could offer some extra services this time around other then identify?

Even Blizzard mwentioned the cube as a partial solution to the space problem. This is silly. They need to address the space issue! Give players lots and lots of space to store stuff. No one should ever have to use the darn cube to carry stuff, end of story.

On another note, the cubes could just fall into the hands of vendors and we could get them to convert/craft things. It would seem more immersive if a blacksmith makes your armor instead of putting a giant plate inside a litte box that fits in the palm of your hand.

I see no reason why it shouldn't be back. About the inventory space though, I can never understand why it is so difficult to just give the player 4 bags with 16 slots right off the bat. Or just give us 4 bags with 8 slots and have rune drops that increase the size of your bag by 4 with the max being 24 or 36 slots per bag. Just don't make the rune drops so easy to get.

At the BlizzCon demo the runes didn't take inv space, they were stored in a belt-like window on the skills page (ready to be used). Also in the WWI demo the Barbarian picks-up a rune and it doesn't shows in his inv screen.
So I am guessing that runes won't take space (or atleast not regular space) in your inventory even in the final game.

No cube.
SPHERE!

I believe it is safe to assume there will be some type of Horadric item-transforming object.

I don't remember where I read it but Blizzard said that the cube is not returning in D3. They said that the cube was lost after all the happenings of D2.

I'll try to find my source and i'll edit my post if I find.

I heard this too, but I can't remember the source.

Personally I don't mind it, the cube became pretty worthless unless you were avidly collecting gems and low runes to try and transmute into high ones.

yeah they probably would just ex it out. push it aside. to make room for different things in d3... like as someone mentioned vendors... they will probably help craft things.

but i would like to hear the reason for why it was not brought back. it had a lot of uses AND it was an extremely rare horadric item! cain would not be happy with its loss... no more free identifying for us

Well, I guess my question has been answered then. No Horadric Cube in D3. =(

But should anyone have more info on the how & why:s, please share. =)

cube was more of an annoyance than nice item :) I didn't really use it for anything since I played more classic and all the crafting things could be done even without the cube. It was more space but annoying to open it up and arrange it all the time etc.

I wouldn't mind seeing it return. It's a nice catch all for adding interesting new twists to items. I would even think they could have a cool variable quest in D3 to retrieve it from the last hero who held the cube. Have it randomly choose a class from D2 as the hero who held onto the cube that you have to track down. Have them all washed up and dejected. I suppose the barb would be the only one not available for that quest. At least as far as we know about the story right now.
