View Full Version : Hardcore Goldfinding
I have a problem. I can't stop giving Gheed my money. Most of the enjoyment I get from this game these days is derived from gambling and finding something interesting [I found a Guardian's tiara of Life Everlasting recently; Abbot, anyone?]. That being said, I'm building a GF barb. He will be totally untwinked, and will not be rushed/anything else.
I don't need advice on the gear, or actual goldfinding strategies; I'll be using Leap and popping Council corpses in hell Trav. The advice I need is what build I should use to actually make it through the game. It needs to be a build that can do without 30ish points, which will be spent in leap/find item/etc.
My initial thought is Concentrate; it's reasonably safe [I can use a shield], and Battle Orders is a synergy which I'd be maxing anyway. I probably will have enough points left over to max another synergy or a weapon mastery [or some combination of the two]. Is this a reasonable idea? Or is there some other build which is light on points which I can play through HC untwinked with? I was also toying with the idea of a throw barb.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums!
I don't know much about barbs, so I'm no expert.. But how do you plan on getting through the Chaos Sanctuary, unrushed, with a Melee character, on Hardcore?
Apart from War Cry, which is a pretty poor choice, a throwing Barbarian seems like the only safe choice for Iron Maiden..
Hope this helps.

I was always a big fan of WW, 20 points and a good killing skill, however regardless of what you go if your untwinked I'd definitly go a Macer and run nm mephy until a steel driver drops.

Berserk does not trigger Iron Maiden's retribution. I'd probably avoid using it unless I was devoted to the skill though.

When I built a goldfind character, I built a hammerdin, because I hate barbs!
Another idea would be a bowazon/javazon stacked with goldfind.
On second thought, any character stacked with goldfind would be good.
But, from my limited experience with barbs, I would suggest WW for council, with concentrate to pick off the stragglers. Throw barb, untwinked, for gold find = no thanks.
I'm helpful.

Hi Job,
I too am in the middle of building a GF barb - the decision I came to was to make a Bezerk build as the skill is magical damage, not physical, so IM is no issue. It synergises with Shout which I assume you will max to help your merc. (It also synergises with howl but I will use jump for crown control)
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the replies.
I'm sticking with a barb, as Find Item greatly increases your goldfinding profits [and with a good mf%, decent drops, as well]. I won't actually be killing the council; it's too difficult to stack a good amount of goldfind and still have enough killing/surviving power to take them down. So, the idea is to stack gf, give my merc a bid, bad weapon with a lot of leech, and let him take them out. All I'll be doing is Leaping around; with enough points, leap will effectively stun the entire council, thereby making a hell trav gf run very safe and easy.
Just make sure to watch out for dangerous mods like FE + Cold Enchant (or FE in general) and FE + LE, etc. Geleb can pop you at full health if you aren't careful.

Actually, if he's using Leap it won't be a problem. If you hop in place, all of the monsters keep a good safe distance from you while being stuck against the walls.
The only way to screw that one up is not having enough Leap radius. My last barb wore tons of +skills to get his Leap up(He was a retired BO Barb), and it was fairly often that he would be leaping in range of FE/LE/CE novas that emit whenever you put FELECE monsters into hit recovery.
These blasts did pretty good damage(I had my resists in the 30s) and a good set of them would have killed my barb if I kept setting them off without using potions.
A single death pop shouldn't kill the barb, though. :/
It probably wasn't that smart, but I also tested to see if War Cry would set them off and it did.
War Cry = have to have monsters within your nova range which also puts you in theirs.
Leap = much larger radius - safer you
