PDR and MDR

Ok, so I know how integer damage reduce works (called PDR by me), but what does MDR defend against? Is it "magic" damage or is it all spells & elements (fire/light/cold)?

Spells & elements (except poison) get reduced by MDR. I'm not certain if it applies to magic damage too, but I think it does.

On a slight tangent: "magic absorb", like on a Spirit shield, only works on magic damage, but not on elemental damage.
