i was solo xfering... and got temp banned... lost some good stuff at least for me...

did 1 too many xfers.......

does anyone know exactly how temp ban works or what causes it? i know generally, but does anyone know the exact numbers or time of what gets u temp banned?

how long do games stay up when no one is in them and how long does temp ban last ?

been trying to log back on ...still temp banned... been over an hr now about.. sighs

it does seem that if u keep trying to log back on the temp ban lasts longer...

i tried waiting 5 mins but was still temp banned status...next time..i'll try....should such misfortunate happen again..waiting 15 mins before trying to log back on....

i'm not sure if on the newest-current patch if i ahve been able to log back on after only 5 mins of temp ban

i have been able to log back in after 15-30 mins...

its been over an hr now about with me constantly trying to log back on hoping the temp ban will be removed and the game will still be up and i can save my items...

so trying to log back on definately seems to prolong the temp ban on u.

this is very dissapointing.....and upsettting... i think ima stop playing d2 for quite a bit now....don't feel like playing d2 anymore at least until i cool off... might take at least a week if not longer....it's not gona be fun trying to get back the stuff i lost.......

time to maybe finally start and stay truly commited to morrowind...which i still have yet to really get involved far into the game....

might not come back to d2......if i can actually stay commited to morrowind and develop my character and actually progress far in the game...

i need to learn temp ban metrics with precision....... or learn how many xfers i can safely do before i get near the amount that signals the temp ban on me :D

sighs.... lost a bunch of rare rings with 2 resists both at 20-40 and otehr mods... it'll take me a bit to recover that as my gold doesnt come in fast for gambling...them back. also lost some alright amulets (nothing godly, great, or even good) but still is quite a setup back for me. lost a 3 socketed diamond shield... this is no big deal except the anoyance of having to find another 3 socket shield and the 3 perfect diamonds (9 flawless ones).... hopefully that-this is all that i lost... hopefully i'm not forgeting anything that i hopefully didnt also try to xfer in that last time........

Besides, xfer accidents have happened to all i'm sure. Last ladder i lost 2 sojs few armors and a 330 dmg lance because my gf turned the computer off on, while i was talking in phone. Did it on purpose, cause i had played all day long and had not payed attention to her. The game had not been up for 5 min to make it perm yet :nod:

Sounds like Euro is the place to be. Hegemon, what realm are you on now? I would switch to Euro since there seems to be so many nice, smart people on Euro (Lorg, Fredsta, etc.) but I don't really want to lose all of the items that I have found/traded for. Although I'm not that rich (no SOJs, +2 ammy's, godly rares, best wep=295ED Bsnap, not even a gksin, gull, or hotspurs) I do have like 7 chars that are level 60+ and 2 mule accounts. I will feel like I wasted time being in USEast if I switch. Maybe when I get out of my current diablo II phase and my accounts expire (unlikely), I will try to remember to start up again in Euro.

As far as disasters go, I have had the same thing happen to me quite a few times. One time, I lost almost every valuable set piece in the game. Another time, I simply forgot the game name....... (I must have misspelled it). I also get really peeved when I fall for the stupid classic similar-item-switch scam. I did that in Xpac once, and I lost a soj.....(trying to trade for an enigma!) that's when I quit Xpac.

Oh btw, I also am interested in Hegemon's question. I agree that the 20-30second wait between xfers does work for me. I can usually switch about 20 times before I get banned, if I wait 20-30 seconds in between. I was also wondering: Is the temp ban and realm down the same thing? Are they related or entirely separate. Because sometimes, when I get the realm down message, my friend (who plays on the same realm) can still be playing. Thanks!

bnet DOES mess up the info message sometimes when u try to log back onto bnet.

so u can get in about 20 xfers while waiting the 20 sceonds between each of them, but what about when u dont wait 20 seconds, how many than?

i dont mind waiting 20 seconds before leaving for only a few xfers...

but when i need to do many xfers...that jsut takes too long to wait 20 seconds each time

soo... what i need to know is how many rapid-fire (quick leaving and joining of games in a row-succession) can u safely do without-before getting close to the point that bnet-warden whatever temp bans u

we legit xfer'ers need to find protection from a system's whose purpose is to stop and punish illegit policy breakers using 3rd party programs not to punish the innocent and policy-obiding players who are jsut trying to xfer, mule, collect, and store items for use later or other characters...

i know what i had isnt that big of a deal and with time i can probably eventually find even better rings...

but that's the problem....TIME...it was taken away from me...all the time i spent gettting those rare rings and stufff. all the time i would spend trying to re-get same rings again. time, just as much as life, can't be brought back. time was taken away from an innocent and policy abiding player. that's wrong and i'm still upset. i'm 100% all for cheaters, hackers, and 3rd party players getting caught and punished. but when u damage an innocent person and steal their time away, thats wrong. when u wrong an innocent person...there's a word for that: CRIME. but meh, nothing i can do...need power to do stuff and don't have any.

anyways....this post should show i'm still quite peeved...and not coming back to d2 anytime in the near future as of right now.

Oh, I forgot you were on West. I'm sorry that you're not on East, because I'd have liked to play with you sometime. As to your question about how many quick-fire char changes I can do before I'm temp-banned, I think it's 3 without entering a game. I mean: double-click char, exit, double-click char, exit, double-click char, exit OOPS! That probably doesn't really relate to your exact question but I just thought I'd mention that. I tried doing it as fast as I could.

If you enter a game though, and stay for at least 5 seconds, I think that I can get in about 5-7 char changes (depending on whether some of mine last longer than 5-10 seconds). In my experience, I don't think an account change is more likely to get you temp banned than a char change. On the other hand, I have never switched between 5-7 accounts quickly to test that. I have just never gotten temp banned by simply switching accounts.

I, too, get REALLY annoyed when this happens to me. So i have resolved to either xfer with a friend, or be patient and careful when xfering valuable items. Slightly unrelated, but one time, I mfed both andy and meph, stood around for a bit, dropped my items, left the game, switched chars, and found that my game was not perm'd! (It was in the 1-5min stage where it is neither temp saved or perm'd.) I learned to look at the clock the next time.

I'll try to test it out for you and see how many char changes with 5 second wait times in between. Or do you want me to wait for 7 seconds? 10 seconds? I am pretty sure that the time you wait varies directly with the number of char changes you can get in though. I can also see how long it take to recover from a temp ban (without trying again immediately after banned and with trying again immediately after banned) for 15, 30, 45, 60 minutes. I also want to try to find out if trying again immediately after being banned simply resets the timer and/or adds a certain amount of wait time.

I have to do it on the weekend though, because I don't have much time during the week. Hopefully when we have this conundrum worked out, you'll come back to us in D2 :thumbsup:

Anyway, I just wanted to add, that I was wondering whether temp bans actually occur because of fast char changes or fast entering/leaving games. I think it is only caused by the former because I have never been temp banned for entering/leaving games too fast. Oh wait, I guess I did get a realm down message but that was just weird cuz I didn't even do anything fast. I just entered a couple games with like 10 minutes in between and was in the middle of a game when it decided to exit and say "realm down". Anyway, I guess I could test the latter, but you know how sometimes, when you click on a game, it doesn't actually put u in that game for a while and sometimes not at all, well that would interfere with this experiment. I mean like when the loading sign pops up, you know that it is going to send you into the game when your cursor disappears, but half the time, my cursor doesn't disappear, (I think it might even be when I'm joining/leaving games too quickly). Hmmmmm...

the reason u wait 6 minutes is because if u wait only 5 minutes (it seems to be determined down to seconds) it might be too soon to get the game to be kept up. 6 minutes so far has always kept the game up. but 5 minutes some times it doesn't (must be by the seconds, not jsut in terms of minutes).

all i need to know, is how many times i can leave "soon" (time varies depending on if i need to think on what items to transfer or whatever etc for xfering...) from a game and re-join one over n over well within safety (i can do exactly the same number of leaving and joining without ever hitting the temp ban) or before i get close to the amount where it than temp bans me.

this is so i can finally never gaught caught by a temp ban during xfers like i have just been so.

The only way to truly make a game permanent is to keep a character in there. I'm not sure if it's against Blizzard's ToS if you have 2 cd-keys and run two windows/bnet accounts.

And about the whole swapping realm thing, I reckon next ladder we should all choose a realm and play together on it, there really aren't enough people to play on separate realms and still have forum company.

I'm not sure how much lag I'd get on Europe, East or Asia, I might check tonight.

some runs can be done too fast, and after a certain # of them u get temp banned.

so far, no matter how fast the hell CS-diablo run, i don't think i have ever gotten temp banned from doing a lot of them.

however, when i was using my max FCR teleporting sorc to do some single monster runs (for example: coldcrow for when i was trying to mf gulls. i gotten really fast at them + my max FCR teleport mf-rush sorc. or doing andarial runs), i constantly got temp banned after some still unknown amount of times (maybe sometime i should count how many and the time of each....might be a good idea...so i can learn temp ban metrics). i was doing some really fast runs though.... like at most each run took me only like 30 seconds tops...most were probably under 20 seconds, even.

i don't recall having done hell cs runs-games so fast that i've been temp banned from them...at least that i can remember anyways.

i just read that quote i used from you, and you were talking about getting the game to stay up (the 5 mins thing). my bad...the above comment (above the ----- line) by me is a bit off topic, though probably useful info for others anyways

when i am xfering:

1. i make a private normal difficulty (so that any of my characters can enter it)game (pasworded)

2. i immediately type in the /time (if i remember... i don't alway do)

3. always preferable to have trust worthy people with u who'll stay in the game, so that u don't ahve to wait the 6 minutes (since you don't need to solo do it), and so that in case u get temp banned or internet disconnnected...hopefully they will stay there until u can get back and thus protecting your items-xfer. (i still don't have anyone that i trust to actually give my items to for holding them.....)

4. unfortunately, having some one is not always an option (for me anyways), and so i have to do it solo'ly. well as i said i immediately typed in the /time than i usually go on diii.net (laughs) or do some of the un-needed quests to pass the time, peroidically checking the d2 game time with another typing of /time until it has been 6 minutes. at 6 minutes the game is always kept up (but it only lasts like maybe 5 minutes with no one in it before bnet, removes it. the dissaster i had thanks to a temp ban and lost my items)

5. i than xfer. some times i'll wait the 20 seconds. but usually i have lots of xfering to do, so i don't...and risk the temp ban...been lucky up until now...

6. i need to find a method that is convenient-efficient AND MOST IMPORTANTLY keeps me safe from ANOTHER temp ban dissaster ever again!

i do try to xfer with people, though sometimes i don't like to bother them and xfer on own. same would be true with u.

othertimes... there's jsut no one on (or at least none of my "buddies"), and i like to use such time to xfer...since there's no games-runs going anyways...but as has been seen and felt by me it's very risky to solo xfer!!!

i still don't like to bother people and make them sit tehre while i xfer. its not really fair to them and i don't like to do so. other people come before my selfish desire to safely xfer d2 items. my own personal values and character. i don't like to trouble or bother people. especially not over xfering of d2 items.

but i do appreciate the offer for help !

I got this temp ban too when I was searching for low level items for my new ama.. I rarely had this happen since I always take some time before switching char.

Good thing I have another computer so I went online with that and grabbed the items..

If u get that temp ban you could also change your computers MAC code with a software and you should be able to access bnet again.

I don't believe you understand what you are saying, referring to some one as a gJew is completely different then referring to some one as an American, as the first name is a nationality and the second is some one from the Country United States of America. Apples and Oranges in my opinion.

hmm, that's true, now that israel has been created, but from 4000 bc (bible tells of jewish people in babylon), until 1945, there was no isreal and they have always been known as gjews. if i was a jewish person, i'd find it extremely disrectful to me to NOT be able to type what my own people are called when everyone else can. that IS discrimitory. i am aware that there's tons of hate speech with people using-mentioning the jewish people. but the name of the people isn't the hate speech its the malicious rhetoric attached to the choosen people be they jewish people, american people, blacks, asians, etc...
