View Full Version : Cursemancer?

I looked through the Mouldy Tome and didn't see a build geared for only curses.

My idea is maxing Bone Armor, Bone Wall, Bone Prison, with extra points in Lower Resist (maybe max if you start getting better returns after skill lvl 20... anyone know if you do?). Maybe extra points in Confuse or Attract or maybe Dim Vision with inventory full of +1 Curses GC's.

This is just an initial idea so I'm not listing any type of gear ideas because it would obviously just be as many + skills as you could get.

This build would be strictly for augmenting a party in multiplayer games. No points in Summoning at all (shocked? I think it'd be fun and EVERYONE would LOVE you...)

Anyway, any feedback? Thanks. :)

I guess it would be nice for teammates but it'd stink at soloing - unless you want your merc to kill everything.

There are people who have made Mojomancers (aka Cursemancer) before, but generally as "self-challenges" rather than what you're aiming for.

Most Curses suffer from Diminishing Returns (Lower Resist is one of them), and the rest only get a boost in cursing radius and/or duration, which at some point becomes moot. Hexing GCs are also really useless if you can manage to get +10ish skills on your gear.

I understand it's for teamplay, but you're not doing anything better than what a Novamancer or a Bonemancer will do, sadly.

As for Solo play... pure boredom is a definite... I tried a Mojomancer once... he ended up a Meleemancer.

I don't want to dampen your idea, as it is a great challenge to pursue if you're up for it, but if this is your first "fun" build attempt, you might want to consider others.

My own suggestion if you wish to do this: get a good ~10 in CE as well. That way, your allies will love you even more.

Good for uber Tristram. Meph die with laugh.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. Yeah I had planned on getting CE just to give me SOME killing power.

I'm aware of the diminishing returns but I was planning on doing some heavy Confuse (and maybe Attract) usage, and those curses durations are reduced by 3/4 in Hell. So that's the main reason I wanted an inventory full of skill gc's. Also, I read on diablo2exp site that Dim Vision prevents monsters from using most of their special skills. I thought that could be interesting. It would be great for Gloams/Temptresses too in Throne room I think.

It's not my first 'fun' build for my entire D2 history, but it would be my first one "this time" around (have a Frozenwall sorc, Zealadin, and Hammerdin). Years ago I used to have an elemental absorb assy (got her to where all elements healed her), a Poison Nova Necro, and a couple others. I was just thinking, what kind of "weird" build character would actually still work in 8 player Hell Baal runs? This is what I came up with because of the massive benefits to party (and even though I can't kill I can certainly get exp in those multiplayer games).

I may tweak my build a tad, but I still kinda think it would be fun.

Firemancer in Trang set with Hexfire would be funny. Althought HotO does the same.

For fun I did zeal sorc with double dream - damage in window looked impressive.
Ref, funny necros I wonder if maxed IM + thorn from IG would work (or from A1 merc Bramble + Edge runewords). Even with hell penalty returned damage should be high.

Well, expect it to go something like this:

Except you'll be using Confuse/Attract instead of Dim Vision. IMHO, skimp on on the armor skills and synergies, and get a maxed out CE.

It's a very hard build to go through the game with...(I've done it, wasted so much time on hell it's not even funny, in fact NM was awful as well) To be honest, most party members are too lazy to notice a difference in crowd control or if they're dying or alive, as long as the monsters drop. So, partys wouldn't exactly "love you". This is less a fun build, as it is a chore.

My personal recomendation even with CE, is too try it, just don't spend any thing worth it on it. You might regret the idea, and wasted a good amount of stuff for the Curse GC's.

As much as it seems I hate cursemancers, i'm up for trying anything, if this fails. May I suggest a BoTDmancer? Great fun. :D

My "curses only build" works great on hell. He relies on his A1 merc that he get from killing Blood Riven :D

Dim vision is your friend, with a bit of confuse and attract and the one point wonders life tap and decrep. Because I use a ranged merc i have all the spare points in the bone department. So I can keep the monsters away and my merc shoots them off one by one. An cheap edge bow is already nice to have on her.

On bosses I use the life tap/decrep so my merc can heal herself from the ranged attacks.

Only Baal nm was taking an hour to take down, but it's the safest build I ever made. And quite fun to see andariel kill all her surrounding minions when they are confused :)

Hardest part in the game till now: ancients nightmare. Because they outnumber me.

I built a necromancer based on curses once; called it a multimancer (because it only worked in multi-player). I tried to get as many useful curses and auras as possible. I also used CE to do damage, along with 1 pt in Revive and a well-equipped merc. I carried Insight myself. I had maxed Dim Vision and a couple of points in Lower Resist and Amp Damage (until the range was decent).

I enjoyed playing with this for a while, but in the end it became boring, and being dependent on other players is just too much of a bother for me.

i tried to build somewhat of a cursemancer myself...
iron golem / confuse / attract / AD -> CE to get on was the main idea but the damage returned from thorns and iron is SO bad that playing without a strong merc is pure pain ! and i think the whole concept-thing of a cursemancer is destroyed if you go for any direct damage spell (except ce or maybe firespells from TO)

so for partyplay you could just push useful curses - thats all
most players are annoyed by walls/prison so they wouldnt love u that much :D

n from IG would work (or from A1 merc Bramble + Edge runewords). Even with hell penalty returned damage should be high.

Iron golem works best with amp damage, if the return is what your after.

For mojo~mancers, dim is you #1 skill. The main reason to max it out and actually invest in skill gc's is for a ridiculous radius and duration.

Pure curses as stated are slow killers. Make sure you have a wonderfully powerful act 1 merc (cold) or maybe an act 3 cold merc if you can afford gear to make him take alot of hits (think 'hel'd' sazabie sword/armor + 'fal' hat & a 'hel' stormsheidl).

Last time I made one I remember giving an act 1 merc a 'silence' hydra bow & giant skull, granted her hit blinds target & knock back which made anything that slipped out of my dim vision go right back to being clueless as to why they are dieing....very slowly.
