View Full Version : Stuck on level 14...help!
Hey as you can tell by the title I'm stuck at lvl 14 in the labyrinth, everything was going fine until this level I only died twice, because of packs, and I would only have to take 2 or 3 swings to kill stuff on level 13. Before I was using doorways to block swarms so I would kill 1 or 2 at a time and now it seems you cannot do that.
My problem is blood knights, I keep dieing every time I run into these guys, I can take 2 of them on, but if 3+ get on me I can't even get a swing off, I've tried running into corners to take on as few as possible but 3-4 seem to hit me and I end up dieing. Any suggestions? Here's my stats
Lvl 22 - Barb
Using Sword/Shield
Armor : 74
Hit : 91%
Dmg : 27-35
Resists 16/16/56(light)
Life : 223

When you say Barb, I'm guessing you mean Warrior, correct? The Barbarian is a class available in Hellfire.
Unfortunately if you're playing single player, there really isn't a lot you can do. Because the game is a single-shot, you can't go to other dungeons and scrounge up better equipment or gold and take another shot later when you're a bit more powerful, you're just kind of stuck with what you're dealt.
All I can really suggest is go very very slowly, and you can stand still and swing at nothing if you hold down shift while you click. So a good strategy can be to activate 1 or 2 monsters at a time, get into a good position (say, near a wall, next to a skewered corpse, etc) and start swinging at air. Then when a monster comes into range, if you hit it while it is walking between the squares to get to you, he'll snap back to the previous square he's in. Try it and you'll see what I mean. That should help keep them away from you a bit better. Alternatively a sword with knockback on it could help - Griswold's Edge is a good option, if you got that quest (if you sold the sword - shame on you!).
As for only activating monsters one at a time, try and get some infravision scrolls. I'm not sure if you can buy them in SP or not, or if the shops even ever get regenerated, but that'll help to stop getting you swamped.
If all else fails, save your game and start a new one. Unfortunately you'll have to start all the way back at the Church and work up from there (typically I'd just run through the church levels, unless you find some good shrines on the way). This means you'll have to go through the Caves again as well, which can be a bit of a drag. On the upside you'll get to do all the quests again, potentially ones you haven't done before.
Hey thanks! I put Griswolds Edge on the ground just in case I needed it again
What happens when you start a new game? Do you keep your levels/items/maps?
Edit: Just an update I ended up easily beating the last couple levels once I gave the potion Lachdanan and he gave me his helm, then I ended up getting a stormshield when I killed when of Lazarus's minions. My dmg increased and I maxed all my resists so it was fairly simple after getting those.

Pardon me?
Pick up everything you have on the ground in town.
Save and exit.
Load the character.
Rather then hitting "Load Game", hit "Start New Game."
You get new randomized maps with all your levels/gear intact.

choosing to start a new game on single player simple means that the dungeon is reset and u have to run it all over again from dlvl 1 to 16. u can get different quests generated as well. u keep everything IN your inventory (anything-everything on the ground is LOST when u choose to start a new game, so becareful in deciding to start a new game, and if u do, make sure u pick up what u want and sell what u don't) and equiped on your character. u keep your char's lvl-exp, stats, and spells as well. if u have too much gold and can't fit it all in your inventory, than u should spend it. buy elixers or books or try for better items-gear-weapons-armor before u choose to start a new game.
this (above) is the downside (and upside) to single player game.
and as u already know the upside of single player game, is that u can leave stuff on the ground in town or dungeon and it will never disappear (though i think there is some limit on how many things can be on the ground) (as long as u contrinue the same game by loading it and not choose to start a new game). also, be warned that killing diablo on single player has the same effect as if u started a new game, so make sure u pick everythig up off the ground or sell stuff before u kill diablo in single player game.

if u ment the barb, i can not help u as i do not ahve hellfire, but if u ment the warrior.......
first of all, u NEVER wanna get swarmed in d1 (d1 is very different from d2 in this regard. d1 takes tactics and strategy, unlike d2), especially by oblivion knights.
i found that if u have been raising your str instead of doing vit or magic, that it helps a lot when u meet the oblivion knights. the longer the oblivion knight lives the more dangerous it is for u. more str means u kill that oblivion knight in 1-3 hits (provided u got good to hit chance). i've made it to oblivion knights with a warrior that i didn't raise str (putting into vit and magic instead). it was a disaster. raising your str is really important for a warrior.
and of course (better) gear helps. gear is everything in d1
(and nearly eveything in d2. good skills and stats placement have some importance in d2)
u have to run it all over again from dlvl 1 to 16.
You realize there are quick loads every 4 levels, assuming your of proper character level?
Maloseum Entrance --- Level 5 --- North of the Field of Cows
Cave Entrance --- Level 9 --- South of Wirt
Hell Entrance --- Level 13 --- A crevice near the Cave entrance.

Actually Ikeren, if you read the rest of my original post you would see that I said it was possible to start a new game. I did leave out the important step of picking up all the items you had in town, though.
As for the quick entrances - those do not work in Single Player Diablo from the very start of the game, only in Multiplayer and Hellfire. In Single Player you are forced to start over from the very beginning, although once you reach dlvl 5 you can take the exit up to town, and thenforth that entrance is available to you. That's only worthwhile for about dlvl 5 and 6 though, after that it's better simply to use town portals for everything.
