i just installed this new version. i have never played median before and i have no idea what im doing.

that said DOWN i have started a new barb.

i killed blood raven. found a unique spear and a mess of new items.

will continue tomorrow perhaps.

continuing my game from the stony field wp. i hope to get to cain. i have found a ton of stuff i dont understand, entered a few areas and been insta killed, but most frustrating of all... a damn unique sash dropped :P it isnt lenymo though so im not too mad. i have a little MF now and am finding many many rares and a few uniques, including a unique jewel which i used up. i had a look at the runeword list but it is overwhelming. anyway game up if anyone is around..

Just installed the mod and am absolutely loving it, looking to MP tho, as like Dune I have no idea what I'm doing. I have a Spear-wielding Cold/Poison Sorc around L20.

ps. i just confirmed tha the multi instance dll works fine. so self muling is possible and i could host with a new chr and bring my barb. he has loads of gems and stuff that we might be able to use on new chrs.

It's a personal choice. Some enemy attacks have been nerfed and the character is granted 25% res all in 'Normal' difficulty. It is slightly easier, but it's also an official patch.

And yes, previous chars do carry over.

That's a coincidence - Dune & I just got to Act IV this evening. I skipped ahead and killed Izzy, but we'll kill him again so Dune can get the skill points.

Laz has disabled the part of the program I believe you're referring to, but I'm not sure of the official forum stance.

I think the main Median XL MPers that I know of (myself, Dune and nebux) play 1.12a LoD as a base, which is incompatible with the program anyway.

Regarding Median and muling programs....

We don't accept that program here at all. It is not to be mentioned, linked to, or support given to it as regards installation etc.

However, we appreciate that there is a good community of MPers here for Median and we don't want to penalise them. On that basis you may use the muling program without penalty.

However:
* the no pimping hacks/cheats still applies so it isn't going to be linked to or mentioned here
* ATMA and GoMule are the only accepted muling programs for standard D2.

Thanks for playing Dune. For my character we got all three Sunstones and my class charm (on the first drop!) as well as summoning our first unique and heavily upgrading our equipment. NMA1 on p8 almost seemed like a breeze, I bet I've spoken too soon.

BMD I'm sorry, I never saw this question before. I do 99% of my playing solo and only MP for a little fun on the side. Without that muling program available to me I don't think I'd bother playing, in fact without atma/gomule I see a very limited future in XL for me.

hello. a couple of things. first welcome to the forum. :) it would be best if you made a proper intro thread in the main single player forum before you join any games as we are a bit cautious about new faces.

make sure you have read the rules cos you dont want to upset the thy. (no, really, you dont ;) )

Its fine that you have Hamachi working but I think it might be best if, after making an intro, you PM Fast Eddie and ask to join his secret SPF Diablo society on Hamachi.

It turns out that the original SPF network filled up pretty sharpish, which is good in a way. To cut a long story short, I have created a Hamachi network specifically for Median XL, as there are only a few of us. To join the network, PM with a request and I will send you the network name and password.

The 'rules' of the network are the same as the original SPF MP network (which can be found in the FAQ in my sig).

Its characters are entirely separate. I haven't tried, but I'm assuming that Median will fail to load regular characters and vice-versa.

That said, I'm game for some MP one of these days if there's any interest (this thread is glacially slow, hence the interest check before actually hosting a game).

Edit: If you mean rules-wise taint to D2 characters for trade and MP, then it should be ok as long as there is no interaction (and there can't be, because of the special character files).

XL is going through another beta testing phase atm. I usually wait until there is a stable patch before I play.

Nothing would change if you don't get the new version, and you can probably roll back versions if you have a backup and don't mind discarding whatever you gained from the new version. Edit: of course, anyone MPing together would have to decide on a common version.

I haven't been playing MXL for very long, so I haven't dealt with new versions and their changes, but leveling is much steadier than vanilla LoD (expect to be level ~117 or so out of 120 somewhere in act V hell) and the gear is amazingly reusable (you can unsocket items and keep the socket fillers to put in something else) so restarting a character isn't that painful. You would have to do the challenges again, but that's most of the fun :)

Laz is no fool, he kept giving juicy little tid-bits with all of his new patches/betas. If there was a definitive "this is the last patch - no more" I'd probably go back, no matter how unbalanced it may or may not be. I can work around anything so long as the scenery isn't changing around me.

Unlike Blizzard, I can't just breed on a mod for 5 years and then release it. Change has to be an ongoing process. No change > no development > no improvement > death.

Anyway, there's a respec tool available on the forum for this exact reason.

1.A9 (released this weekend!) is going to be a stable version for a rather long while, by the way - barring fatal bugs or the threat of 1.13 breaking something. 'All those betas' are exactly to make sure 1.A9 is stable and doesn't need more patches to fix things.

I haven't upgraded to it yet; I will try it out with a fresh character sometime before upgrading any of my existing chars.

Yes, you should! The official site at http://modsbylaz.hugelaser.com/ has a ton of information (cube recipes, quests, skill information) and the forums there have lots of build guides if you are so inclined.

I'm not sure if anyone here uses Hamachi to play Median, though I'm sure it's possible. It seems that the few of us who do play just host directly.

Yes, if you replace the patchd2.mpq file with the original one, you will be back to normal (you did make a backup of the original, right? :)).
