ok hello all,

I have got a level 90 hdin that does chaos runs. I find them more fun than baal and they keep me on my toes, just like everyone else hgas possibly said in these threads.

Anyways I am undecided on a few pieces of gear for my hdin to make him more durable (not died in a long time...but I hate seeing life drop too much also). Here is my gear and then what I want to use in place of some items:

Helm: Shako (unsocketed atm)
Armour: Mesh Enigma (i like the look)
Shield: 35% FCR Spirit w/ res
Weapon: Hoto
Ammy: Maras (29%)
Ring 1: SoJ
Ring 2: Rare FCR/Res all ring w/ AR mods
Belt: Arachnids Mesh
Gloves: Magefist
Boots: Eth Sandstorms

Switch: 6BO CtA and 40 res all junk Spirit (21% FCR IIRC lol)

Anni/Torch

Now I am happy with the set up. I get the 125% FCR breakpoint and love it for teleporting and all that jazz.

Now for what my idea is replacing the shako and spirit for a CoA w/ 2 sockets (ber ber) and a Phoenix ST for the redemption aura. The resists will still be maxed in hell so thats a non issue.

Any thoughts on this switch? Means I loose 125% FCR which would suck but the added survivability may be worth it for the low-mid 90's.

Thoughts would be appreciated, im on West ladder

u really don't need that... your gear is "perfect", and with CTA have a huge life. I play with wizzy and no CTA, and don't remenber last time i have died... i think you need more practice with the build, that's not a gear question

it's not that I'm questioning the build or anything, it's about options and weather I should consider the CoA and Phoenix or not.

I have ran 40 chaos runs in a row, 8 players with this set up and never had an issue except when zons lag it with multi show + torch. Then it's the oh bugger full juv option or just bug out of the run and start the next.

I guess it's overal efficiency and survivability in general for the options. Yes they are expensive but what isn't that is half decent really?

Keep 125 FCR.

Phoenix can be nice for the constant healing (means you don't need like an Insight/Prayer Merc, gogo IM!) but unless you can keep 125, don't bother switching imo.

However, if you switch out for like a 10 FCR ring, FCR Ammy, Wizzy, or FCR helm you can keep 125 FCR and the Phoenix could work.

As for CoA, its nice, but the str is too high for my liking, and I don't wanna spend a fortune on -15/15@ jewels. I would do it for like a Baal Hdin, since you have more blind porting to do and it could help, but in Chaos I wouldn't worry to much.

If I did Chaos and didn't want stuff hitting me, I'd just use a Lawbringer Act 3 Merc, not worry about DR%.

I use a cold Ice weilding act 1 rogue with a CoH and Andies. She never dies unless I teleport into a pack of fanat/extra strong critters and we both have amp or decrep on us.

Kinda funny to see the merc out-live level 80+ players though

I dont find the Physical damage to be the most dangerous in chaos but the Venom lords Inferno. I know you said your res was maxed but thats not enough. Aim for max fire res AFTER the Oblivion Knights have cast their Lower Resistance curse on you. The basic way to do this is to stack on some Fire Res or All Res small charms. Another solid choise, is going for Hotspur boots. These boots are a solid choise for a Din dedicated to running chaos and will help you more than Treks. What you loose is 20 FHR, really only that and some dex for max block. You shouldn't need the str from it and poison is.. well it's poison damage and not that deadly unless it's from Achmel :) Are you hitting the 86% FHR BP? If not, well then you loose a little bit of blocking but gain a very solid protection from the most dangerous attack in Chaos Sanctuary. If you infact do hit the 86% FHR bp then.. well, try hotspurs and I bet you a buck you wont notice that big of difference, at least not big enough for you to want to go back to 75% fire res.

And no, COA is not worth it. Either you have put a whole lot to many stat points in to str or you have a whole lot of stat points saved that you can put to str. Either way this is probably contributing to you feeling unsafe - and no, str charms aint worth it! Go with your shako, slap an Um in there, or a Ptopaz whichever floats your boat, but make sure your res are (near) max after lowerresist. Remember that the (somewhat) rare occasion the Venom Lord seal (have forgotten their name) spawn with conviction you'll be HURT otherwise since conviction reduce your res with 80% while LR lowers with 55% if I remember correctly..
