i realy want the 3 mouth demon to be belial or azmo, it could be some kind of re-reincarnated diablo, but it doesnt seem his style. im keeping my fingers crossed for Belial (lord of lies) someone said something interesting on another thread about having more mouths to tell more lies, i thought it was quite nice symbolism, whats everyone elses thoughts?

It really really really just looks like Diablo with an aesthetic upgrade.

I'm not totally convinced either, but I'd still say it's the odds on favorite that it's big D.

I was thinking that it might be the three brothers molded into one being... That might have been their plan all along...But thats just guesstimation...

In the picture, the barbarian is standing on the same demon as the one shown in the cinematic. Only one head is seen, but the demon is named Diablo in the article.

yeh, ive seen it...ive also heard the 3 merged into one theory, it sounds realy cool but i dont know. back to the pick, i dont know why blizz would reveal diablo's new look to us so early on in development, i mean D3 is going to be huge and theres going to be a crap load of lore for us to feast on...it just seems realy typical of blizzard to show us one thing and call it another, you know just to fool us all. im still not convinced

The demon in the video looks just the same as the one in the Diablo III logo seen everywhere, I'm positive it is Diablo.

I think it sounds pretty ridiculous if all 3 prime evils were merged into one... ugh. I don't mind his looks, as long as it's only Diablo in that body.

I do think it'd be pretty sad if Blizzard revealed the looks of the, most likely final, boss of the game years before it's released. I trust his looks will be changed over and over again, and they just wanted a cool ending to the movie. I'm pretty sure they didn't even start putting Big D together in polygons yet.

We'll see. Diablo in Diablo 2 doesn't look much like he does in the cinematic, he walks way too upright, as compared to the (way cooler looking) Diablo you fight once you reach the end of the Act.

I agree, but that's my stubborness of not wanting it to be the head meany. Plus it's slowly conserving my excitment for the game. If it is, then:
"So it was! Nice!"
IF it's not:
"Haha! sweet! this is twighter than a twiger! told ya!"
Either way.... no dissapointment.

Because it is Diablo III, heh.

I think he will find a way to come back.

About the topic... I got no idea. Perhaps the 3 brothers, perhaps new monster... or perhaps a mix Diablo+bigassmonster+bigassmonster all in one, magical mixed and returning to Sanctuary this way by a powerful evil guy or god or cultists.

Who knows.

**** that! Diablo will be the final boss. He has to be.

My theory is that it's Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal fused into one creature. That might sound corny, but I further theorize that said creature is rather dim-witted and controlled by Belial. Either that, it's Diablo after he absorbed his brothers to gain their powers.

And then after you defeat the gruesome thing, it splits and you have to fight all three at once.

Or better yet, it only splits if you use a certain optional item. It then becomes the hardest challenge in the game, comparable to Uber Diablo from D2.

iŽd say it is Diablo or the beings of all prime evils in ONE form

Im willing to put money on it being Diablo, but wouldnt put it past Blizzard to not even have Diabo as the prime protagonist in this game, imagine fighting the lesser evils for a while and evnetually discovering that the Prime Evils have merged into one mighty beast and are the true forces behind the Lesser Evils

That "demon" is almost certainly Inarius, the Archangel who created Sanctuary. It fits the description. And it's one of the reasons I'm terrifically excited about Diablo 3.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but in the trailer when it zoomed in on the meteor crater thingy, the 3 headed monster came out next.

Nope, its been officially confirmed to be Diablo.

The Demon roaring at the end of the cinematic trailer (see right) was widely speculated as being Belial or Azmodan, the two Lesser Evils that were unseen till now, or an amalgamation of the three Prime Evils. The idea that it would be Diablo was suppressed by the fact that he was permanently killed in Diablo II. However, an official statuette commissioned by Blizzard has revealed that the Demon is, in fact, Diablo himself. The statue depicts the Barbarian standing atop a defeated Demon that bears a striking resemblance to the Demon in the cinematic trailer. The caption on the statuette reading "Victorious Barbarian standing atop a defeated Diablo shouting towards the High Heavens" finally confirmed the Demon being Diablo.

Hope that helps

They're surely running out of excuses now for why we need to kill Diablo, or why he's not dead in the first place.

But for whoever said Diablo has to be the last boss in a Diablo game, Diablo 2 says "not so!" Baal was the last boss. Sure, it was an expansion, but it was the story's finale, so technically, Diablo was not the last boss.

Hopefully he won't be the last in Diablo 3 either, because honestly, there's nothing Diablo can offer anymore that can possibly surprise me unless he dropped loot that wasn't terrible. That would surprise me.

He's just not that interesting anymore. He's like Jason Voorhees, after "dying" for the 15th time and miraculously coming back, it gets old and the excuses stop feeling justified. If he's not gone for good after Diablo 3, it'll become full-on cheese that he's still alive.

@CaptainDingo:

I think its more than possible for him to come back, he may be dead for god but we dont know if the same holds true for his soul. Maybe the world stone acts as a prison for evil? Maybe thats where his soul was sent? Or maybe, his soul just ended up back in hell. Now that theres no barriers seperating sanctuary from the heavens or hells, he can manifest without he aid of a corrupted soul stone.

I personally think the image is diablo himself, i cant wait to see the other brothers, I've always wanted to see what Mephisto's true form is, same goes for Baal, unles im wrong in assuming that he was still in tal rashas body at the end of d2,if i am wrong, what a lame excuse for a demon. He looks like my old teacher.

In Dante's Inferno or Divine Comedy, I'm not entirely sure what its called but the one where he pretty much gets a guided tour through the nine circles of Hell.

Well each circle has their respective demon that is in charge of their particular circle, and in the last circle you know where the Devil or Lucifer is in charge he is depicted as this demon with 3 faces, thus I don't think it's too far fetched to assume that is where Blizzard took inspiration from and it's pretty safe to assume that the demon in the trailer can very well be Big D himself.

@tyren: Inferno is the first of three volumes which make up Dante's Divine Comedy, but that's where he visits the circles of hell. Also, lucifer was frozen in ice at the middle of the ninth circle (which makes the expression "when hell freezes over" very amusing).

I don't see that much of a change to Diablo's appearance, however. It might be a metaphor: the three brothers as different sides/aspects of ultimate evil, perhaps?

Yes thank you that is what it's called, and yes Lucifer is frozen in ice, but not completely, pretty much just half of him. The rest, the upper body and his 3 faces very much functional and chewing on the three worst sinners or something like that.

The three worst sinners are (according to Dante) Brutus, Cassius, and Judas Iscariot. The first two betrayed Ceasar, and Judas betrayed Jesus Christ. (These were, and still probably are, history's two most famous betrayals.) You're right, Dante has them forever chewed alive by the Devil. The "next worst" sinners are forever frozen alive in the ice around Satan. Dante's description is so creative and vivid that it has forever changed the way Hell is seen in art, literature, and even religion. All of the Divine Comedy is great, but everyone should read Inferno. Once you do, you'll see Dante's influence all over the place, even in games.

I hope he isnt the final boss, somehow I think the final battle will take place in Heaven against some big fallen angel (probably not Tyrael) I think the heavens are not all made of good as well. If that doesnt happen in D3, probably in the expansion, just like Baal was presented as a new menace I expect the same to happen.

Plus I would love to see Archbishop Lazarus back from the dead, he is the best villain in the series imo. I would even say to make him the final boss but thats just me.

I dont really like that picture. The barbarian looks like a fat old man. He looks like he belongs on a couch instead of fighting evil. My barbarian would look more like the hulk, without the green of course.....

I vouch that the demon is diablo. But that belial would be an awesome addition to some of the other characters in sanctuary as far as demons are concerned.
