Everything on the screen goes blurry. Blood drips down. The blood splattered screen fades...to black. A distant, white light beacons from above....while below, a firey abyssal pit awaits. Your quest decisions while living shall determine your fate now...

Immediately following death and choice of afterlife, you are sent into a queue for 1 of 2 very special group quests.

If you went to heaven, you and a handful of other recently deceased will return as angels, sent by tyreal to assist a public game as ghost allies, and help them complete their quest. Should the living defeat their enemies with your help, you and your team shall earn it's wings, a special "spirit" bonus to your re-rolled character, and your name forever etched into the book of eternal valor (website).

For those whose foul deeds doomed them to hell queue...you will return to serve as special undead champions; Servants of Diablo, tasked with stopping a different random pub from completing their foolhardy quest. Should you and your undead peers successfully stop the adventurers, you will be made general, commanding greater hordes, and rewarded with more power as a super unique, growing in power until you are put to your final rest...but not before taking as many as possible down with you!

Whadda ya think?

I am not into things like this. HC for me is just a mode where if you die, you die for good. When I die in HC my next wish is to reroll my character...

I like it.

I don't think there should be any type of 'bonus' for dieing. You would have people dieing on purpose just to do this 'sidegame'... Not into it at all.

If it takes the sting out of death it's a bad idea.
If it makes people want to kill the occaisional character it's a worse idea.
If it makes people who have no business playing HC creating HC characters just to experience it's pretty much blasphemy.

Well thought of, but not a very good idea for Hardcore.

yeah not a fan, ALTHOUGH! i am a fan of a more epic death screen. like when i die. i want something cool to happen and not just hear my character scream and fall over naked. thats too lame IMO.

a cinematic death for each possible death would be ridiculously impossible to do, UNLESS! its for like an act boss. i know i saw that SiegeBreaker monster rip a barbarian in half. that is what im talking about. i want more of that action lol. (thats not a cinematic)

Or, (chuckles chuckles) you,....hehe he he he heeh eh ...
You have to watch 5 minutes of instant replays of you chr dying! Over and over again. In slow motion, superslow motion, from different angles, some close up shots of the chr's face grimmacing in shock.

I know, it's not possible because they'd have to record the whole game in memory...
But they COULD just animate the killing blow over and over again, or just show the chr falling in his death animation over and over again.

You know, just to add that extra load of gut wrentching experience for HC players.

i was thinking of it in this way: if you diy, you got choice to go, like a good person i am :girly: i ll choose hell, and be reanimted as baddie. at level 99 with best gear, i ll go as evil sprirt ( lets say its level depened and item based  ) and pwn all ****ing noobs to make my life miserable, and after killing 100 's of noobs, dia says now,

I DONT NEED YOU, YOU ARE BETTER THEN ME, YOU MUST DIY FOREVER

and now you fighting big guy, killing em with point blank 1 hp and and you send to heavens, they say, no no, we dont like you, so yuou send back as lvl 1 with your gear back, and you say, ofmg, why lvl 1? :\

I think it's an interesting idea. For the reasons stated above, no not as a hardcore death though. Not as a side quest. BUT. Somehow, someway, angel/demon reincarnation would be bad@$$. Especially if I spawned in as a Multishot lightning enchanted magic immune...

great idea... but u take away from the point of dying... and also this can be abused... by urself or friends killing themselves to save you.

If they did something like this but it only happened like 1 out of 100 times and was restricted to character levels of say 80+, could be a cool bonus feature just because the chance of it happening is so slim. I doubt the majority would take the time to make that many level 80+ if rushing/power leveling is difficult to do. You could even go as far as having it start at level 80 and have "tiers of chance to occur" based on level so at level 80, it might be 1 out of 200, level 85 1 out 150, lvl 90 1 out of 100, lvl 95 1 out of 50 and so on. Tho I'm opposed to the idea of being able to grow ridiculously powerful as a enemy in the game.

Since your idea comprises Players replacing Non-Player Creatures - I approve it.

Dead is dead. Dead, character gone, nothing more to do. End of the game. End of the line. Dead is dead.

This is a bad idea imo for the simple reason that it makes death fun and takes the point out of HC.
What I WOULD like to see, on the other hand, is the ability to come back as a 'ghost' and join games normally for the sole purpose of being able to show people what gear you had (but not trade it away of course) and how pro you were before you got murdered.
