With my anni/torch my str will be 48. What should I shoot for as base strength?
easy answer:
as much as you need for your gear including all the +str items from your gear.
A lot of people like to use spirit so that would need 156 str after all items.

that is pathetic, this is the strategy section, you shouldnt be shamelessly promoting your own items here.

So with a spirit monarch I'm going to need pretty high base strength. If everyone here who uses one could tell me their strength that would be cool.
All my sorcs just get 156 base strength out of convenience. If you are sure about your torch and anni, you could subtract those I guess. Saving 10 strength here and 10 strength there doesn't accomplish a lot really.
you need 156 after all your gear for monarch....if you're going pure lite then you probably already have an infinity ready to use, and if thats the case you probably have a whole suite of equipment ready to use, so you should be able to add together all the +str bonuses and then subtract that from 156, thats your base.
Keep in mind if you're using Enigma AP, though, you'll need enough base str (103) to equip it WITHOUT counting its sizeable +str bonus, so that might be what determines your true base str if you're planning to use that specific armor, and it might (well it will) put you over 156 when you're fully geared up.
AP needs 103 str but not base str. Torch + ani is 30str average.
I've added about 20 pts in str. (40 life less - almost 1400 life on lvl89)
Using 2 rings 20+15 str, torch 15, amu 10, WT10, belt 19 and rest from charms.
do NOT use charms for strength.
A small charm can get 2 strength or 20 life
A large charm can get 5 str or ~35-40 life
A grand charm can get 6 strength or 45 life
1 point in vit = 2 life. Therefore a life charm is the equivalent of 10 vit points or 10 points in strength. If you want the PERFECT sorc, you should have the gear already preplanned. If not, you can afford to over spend the strength a little providing you can wear the gear you want.

I'm sorry but how did you get 48 str with anni/torch---I did the calculations over and over, I only got 40?
Depends on your gears...I put 70 on base before I got my torch and anni for my mf sorc using tal armor/anni/belt.

Because you start with 10 strength. (I'm guessing his anni & torch total +38)
As for me, I might plan on Wartrav's (+10 str), and/or if I have a skiller with +str planned I'll discount them. Otherwise, I agree with stephan that you should just spend the points and not worry about a couple wasted points here or there.
I agree on that a few wasted points in str is not that big a deal. Just to mention if you use Enigma you would have to wait until your end game level to stat since enigma gives bonus to str/lvl!
