Way back in 2000 I witnessed a 12 year old boy playing Diablo online at a friends house. He then said "watch this" as he hacked another character's stats to 1 ....much to the little "monsters" delight. I was mortified!!! He just giggled and logged out of the game. I swore I would never play online if that could so easily happen. I have since ventured into the dangerous waters, now that I have a high speed connection (hey 56k was good enough for the Pilgrims wasn't it ?!?) I have been playing D2 single player for years, but I'm finding myself a little lost with a few things...for instance:

1)adding people as friends, and then finding them
2)whispering to people

I have learned some things the hard way. There are some thieves out there. I set some runes down on the ground in a public game (free parking) and a guy named ________ ran by and took them. I know it was stupid but is there no honor?

I also learned about Player killers and ears rather quickly. Children with issues to work out come to the game and vent perhaps?

I guess some lessons are best learned the hard way??? I got the muling thing from some very helpful folks in a game a week back. And today I am reading about safely trading on these forums. Thank you so much! Tirade over...

Read this page to the letter to learn the most basic things.

Yes they are, we all did some of them eventually. Don't ever drop anything useful on the ground. TBH, I would never return a hrs for example, but if it's an item I don't need, then yeah, I would return it. Diablo is a game where 'the survival of the fittest' is the key.

To answer your questions. You can add a player to your list by typing /f a (account name). Then simply type /f l to see your list, and where your buddy is (if it's mutual)

For more chat commands type /? or /help

Welcome to BatteNet mate! It's certainly a learning experience and there's some real scammers out there but some really nice people too. You soon learn how to weed out the bad ones. Oh, whispering to friends, /f msg then type what you want to say. D2 online is a great game and will bring both positive and negative experiences, hopefully more positive. If you need any further help, let me know

check out the player matchup forum if your trying to find mates to hook up with BTW. So far the people I've come across there have been pretty decent to run with.
