View Full Version : Who here would like a console version?

First off, let me establish that Blizzard has not ruled out this possibility. Secondly, if there would be a console version...it would have no impact on the pc version because it would be a late port. My question to you is: Would you buy a console version?
Personally, i'd love it. No hacks and it's perfect for xbl  It seems xbl was built for d3. High security, peer to peer, friends list, solid communication tools, ranking system (why not expand beyond 1000 for each ladder), party system, and achievements.
I'm sure some blizzard employees are console fans themselves. In fact, i'm sure they played games like ninja gaiden and fable. Would you support a console version?
I'd buy both versions :D

i would be 100% against a console version. much rather they spend thier time doing whatever with the pc version. you say late port? i say less patches and worse xpac. nuts to consoles

I have my PC hooked up to my big TV so it would be redundant for me :)
I only support it if PC and Console players can play on the same servers.
Sure, if they outsourced it to a completely separate team or started a new team specifically for console development. Not that I would buy it, but those would be the requisite conditions for me not to hate it.

Hire another developer to do the port.

That might be tough, I'd prefer separate servers.

Yes, but it would have to have single player support which I'm sure they'd do if the development happened. I played D1 heavily on the Playstation 1 and enjoyed it thoughly - had a level 42 rogue. This would be good news and I would buy it with the eXPak (only).
against console, people just want console so they don't have to upgrade (or buy) their computers...
and how will D3 work on consoles exactly? Instead of having a tool slot with about 10 different skills, you'll be limited to 3 buttons?
But who knows, I might be wrong.

Would never buy it. I can't imagine the gameplay on a console with like 5 buttons... and plus, getting online is so much easier on a computer.

PS3 has built-in mouse+KB support...only reason I'd get it on PS3 would be due to my computer being nearly 5 years old, and by the time D3 releases it may be creeping up to 7.
Only major problem with PS3 is the lack of any PC developers taking the time to understand the architecture in order to properly program for it *cough*Valve*cough*.

I would be in favour of them developing a console version even though i dont have an console and hate them. As long as they have their own different servers. BTW, I think blizzard wont make any console games(maybe in the near future).

They could develop a console version for all I care. Just as long as they don't start to make compromises to the PC version in order to get it to the consoles. Too often this day in age developers seem to think that things need to be dumbed down in order for the game to be successful on the consoles. I'm not saying that console players are stupid, just that developers think that it has to be this way. It is something that has slowly been killing gaming.
I don't think you'll be in luck guys. When we spoke to Leonard Boyarsky he said...
"Of all our games, Diablo III would be the one to port because of the way it plays,” said Boyarsky, “but there are no plans to move this to any other platform. - source http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/diablo-3-not-on-consoles/

I'm totally against a console version of DIII. Not that I dislike consoles or console users, I just think Diablo would be terrible on a console *cough*PS1*cough*

Bioware said the same thing about a PC version of Mass Effect... but I guess it is easier to port console games over to the PC than it is in the reverse.
Mass Effect turned out to be a mediocre RPG by PC standards.

Bugger, my master plan needs some adjustments. Damn this one's going to have to be good as I can't just buy a new PC just to play D3. :fire:
Should have made this post a vote! It can't be edited to add that in now, unfortunately.

Actually, I had a spat where I configured D2 to work off a gamepad using a little program to map keystrokes to a joystick and it wasn't really all that bad in terms of gameplay.
I actually think this would be pretty damn doable with the wii-mote setup.
Xbox360 lets you plug a usb keyboard into it so i don't see any control problems that could prevent it. I would rather play this game on the 360 that a cpu, but if i can't and have to play on computer i'm going to.

I'm in the same boat as many. I don't care if they develop for consoles as long as it doesn't affect the PC development from both a time and content perspective. I would not buy it on a console.
Of course, if sales on a console would eliminate the potential micro transaction fees, then I'm all for it.

it sure would eliminate it, of course microsoft would buy the rights to any xpacs for some ungodly amount and us pc gamers would be left in the cold. :whistling:

I fear, if they port it, there will be compromises. So I am against it for that reason alone.

True. Unfortunately these days most games get designed for consoles and then ported to PC. If you're lucky the game has gotten a decent UI instead of a console UI with mouse support.
i think console versions of diablo suck , just my opinion hehe

hey, that is a good idea.. i dont like the wii way of gamming, but that would be pretty cool to see people swinging the controler like a barbarian... haha

The only reason I would like it on console is...
The only cheating that appears on consoles are modified controllers.

The console is a bit less powerful than the PC. So you make a game for that platform first and port it to the more powerful platform later. Easy example, platform A has a one button mouse as input device, platform B has a two button mouse and a 10-key keyboard input-devices. Naturally you create and design the game around platform A first. ;)

I used to play Diablo II with a mouse.
Left click.
Right click.
X-axis.
Y-axis.
Always run: On
I don't think Diablo III would play very well with an ASCII interface.

Your theory doesn't apply because they didn't say they'd make a console version.

I disagree with that sentiment. There are many console games that were far better on the console than they were on the pc. Specially this generation. I think pc games are going extinct except for blizzard and mmo games.

I disagree with that sentiment. There are many console games that were far better on the console than they were on the pc. Specially this generation. I think pc games are going extinct except for blizzard and mmo games.
The reason for that is simple. Multi-platform games are being developed for consoles first. Most specifically for the Xbox 360. Developers spend time polishing the game for the consoles. They make sure that all design decisions are taken for consoles. They aim the game at what they think is the typical console audience. There is good reason for them to do this. Microsoft in particular is willing to throw loads of cash to any developer for exclusive content. The result of this is that the PC version is always a late port. More often that not the quality is so low you are wondering how it even got past QA. It is no wonder why games feel better on consoles than on PC's.
Very few developers aim for PC's only because they think the PC is a dying platform. It isn't, not by a long shot. But as long as the suits keep parroting that line and aiming for consoles it will appear to be true.
I think pc games are going extinct except for blizzard and mmo games.
This has been the general sentiment since what (PC GAMING IS DEAD SON! DEAD I TELL YOU)... 10 years ago? I am not seeing it.

nothing beats a mouse/keyboard for me which is why i always pick pc gaming over console. i tried a mouse/keyboard set up on the ps3 and it sucked hard. i wonder why no console is fully supporting that kind of set up from the launch date? anyway until they do things like that pc gaming will not die, even then i do not believe it will

It can't die as PCs will always exist. Maybe the market will shrink and less games will be released for PC only.

yeah i agree. i also think that with more and more people able to build and modify thier own pc it keeps the community going. i for one like the idea that when i make a pc i can upgrade parts of it here and there when need be, where as a console i get what i get until 4-5 years go by and i gotta get another one

Most people are playing online flash games anyhow, the market for over-the-counter games is only so big. Right now it feels that pc's suck because all the good games are consoled.
I had D1 on both PC and console and enjoyed them both immensly. They were both identical except for when you played with a friend which is what consoles excell at. There's just something cold about playing online compared to playing people in the same room. Look's to me like PC game developers are simply accepting this fatal flaw in PC gaming and moving on (no lan).

the problem is the pc is getting the same games but half a year or more later and then the games are not as good as they can be because they were made for a console first. even then i am sure there are console games that do not make it to the pc but imo the pc games that do not make it to console are far better

(And not everyone has their computer in their living room. My wife would kill me :D)
I would love to see d3 on consoles, as was posted by others with 1 caveat. Bnet would have to be shared. That way, after I play the pc version for a year or so, when the console version comes out, I can switch over and not lose my stuff ;)

i say consoles would need GOOD mouse/keyboard support before a console diablo game would be worth a damn, imo
I played the game on ps1 and it was awesome for its time. You just moved ur char with the d-pad and went to town.
Looking at the skill setup for d2 and what is up for d3 looks like about 6-8 skills is all you can have readily available (sure if ur some kind of freak and can reach 100 keys or use a special keyboard grats to u)
Xbox controller has 8 buttons that are readily available, and 10 counting the 2 joystick buttons (which imo are a little more annoying to use).
But to your point, xbox 360 and ps3 both ahve GOOD mouse/keyboard support....you can go wireless even.
I have computer, don't want console version.
Some of the recent games I've played that has been to both consoles and computers suffers some major bugs. Far cry 2 for example has some issues with Field of View which could be many degrees wider if it wasn't designed with consoles in mind, other annoying thing there is mouse acceleration which is so annoying that it makes the game unplayable.(at least it helps when you disable directx10 and use 9)
So they should put all their effort only to PC version. And if one comes out in the future I wouldn't wanna play together with them kiddies.

i tried the mouse keyboard with the ps3, its not good, no way near it. when i say good i mean on level with the pc, maybe thats what i should have said instead of good. the mouse/keyboard should be shipped with the consoles now, it should be designed for them just as much as with a controller
