View Full Version : No melee for the WD?

As the Barbarian, we had little problem running head-first into the undead legions and tearing them apart with our bare hands, while the Witchdoctor could hardly stab a skeleton to save its life. The Wizard seemed to have the "best of both worlds" since it could both melee and cast spells, but every class was still a blast to play.
I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping the Wizard would be the pure magic user while the WD had the ability to use ranged, small arms (daggers, short swords, hatchets), or class specific weapons.
1. The Necromancer didn't do so well on melee too (and sorry for all you Daggermancers). I know it's not D2.5, but still.
2. We have about 10 skills of the WD. Many can come and have melee bonuses (Maybe Morgels benefit from your elemental wep damage ^^).
3. It's really early to know anything, without information about AR, stats, items, stats effect and much much more.
PS- I was hoping for the Wizard to be a pure magic user too. I think Blizz made the Melee Sorc too softcore, and not nearly a exciting and non-traditional build like D2. Maybe the Melee WD will take her place, fightning along his Morgels.

Just like LaZeR said, the WD is the least thought out class at the moment. barely any skills. Since stats are being marginalized we'll have to wait until we get more info before we know if the WD really can't stab anything to save his life. I'm still hoping for some great melee skills.

The Sorc in D2 also came equipped with a large number of spells designed for melee. The other spells just gave an awful lot more damage. The Wiz is merely the continuation of this trend. But I do agree that it would have been nice to see more focus on the pure spell casting and less of the hands on approach. Make it possible, not the preferred method of attack.
Yeah, I'm worried the Wiz will become too much of an Assasian-like melee char. I guess that's because the low number of active spells and high number of mastries.
However, I have to admit they added some really cool melee skills. Casting Slow Time, Teleport into a group of mobs and fightning alongside your Hydra (which hopefully won't be a stupid sticking head) and Mirror Image. Very cool.
