View Full Version : What's it mean?

Does it mean anything that they released the third char already? Does this put them closer to a release date. How long was that in between Char releases like 2 months. So another 1 and a half months for char 4, then save the last char release for the official game release probably. This is probably far fetched but one can hope. What do you think the wizard release so soon means if anything?

Probably just means that they needed to have something new to show in blizzcon. The male part of the class wasn't even ready.

I don't know when's the next big update going to be. I'm not even sure if there's any big blizzard events in the near future, so they are not in any rush to reveal unfinished features of the game.

Still, I think that they wouldn't have announced the game if they thought it would be released in 2012 or something. They could've waited a year and announce it at WWI 2009, just like they waited many years before the announcement. It's not healthy to keep the hype going more than 1,5 - 2 years.

If starcraft 2 comes out this christmas, I'm hoping that Diablo 3 will come out during 2009, probably christmas. Just my guess though.

If you are going to argue like that, then you can say:

2 more characters, 2 more events probably WWI and Blizzcon 2009, with an added announcement of a release date at Blizzcon: 29 June 2010 aka the same dates Diablo II and LoD was released... On the 10 year anniversary of Diablo II... Sounds like something Blizzard would do... But all of this is subject to change if they hit a speed bump in the road... And I think they need a lot of Beta time for a game like Diablo...

It was clear from the BlizzCon interviews that they're nowhere *near* finished. Early-Mid 2010 is probably a good guess.

Like Apple, any major information will be released at big events. Blizzcon, WWI, and maybe even PAX.

The time between releasing the characters may not be a reflection of the time it took to create those characters. The development isn't linear anyway. In all interviews I've heard, the D3 dev team broke their humps getting a playable Wizard demo to BlizzCon '08 - and a superb job they did too.

Off the top of my head I've heard the following indications of progress:
- The D3 team have only finished a few acts, and only in normal difficulty
- Only 3 characters revealed (and no male gender yet for Wizard)
- The skill trees have just started to come out
- Only a handful of quests have been scripted
- It's just been revealed attributes aren't assignable
- PvP hasn't even begun
- Full Battlenet2 functionality isn't even bedded down (must be close though because of StarCraft2)

I'd guess the earliest we'll see D3 is in 2010 with a dream date being December 2009 - I can't imagine it being any sooner than that.

Yeah, my thought was that they have an intended Christmas 09 release date to shoot for, which will most likely get delayed to 1st or 2nd quarter 2010.

this means nothing, well almost nothing. what it means is they needed something big to show off so we got the wiz, next big event will give us the next class, 2 if lucky. how long til the next event anyway?

WWI will be the next event and will probobly be around the same time of last year's. The talk of release dates is exhausting. One could speculate that blizz plays their cards so close to the cheast that I really don't trust what they say. JW could have been bluffing us with the talk that the game has so much work to be done, and it will be out sooner then everone thinks. This is very wishful thinking on my part though.

i remeber an interview that explained the business part a bit. I a nut shell they said buisiness wasn't a thought until the game was completed. only then would they think about the marketing aspect. Ask yourself if it looks like blizz is marketing D3 yet. If they have been, then d3 would be out soon after starcraft 2 was released and battle.net 2.0 was up and running. I feel battle.net 2.0 equals d3.

One thing is for sure Blizzard is amazing at keeping us in the dark until they want us to know something. I'm not the only one who would be willing to go into hibernation until the game is released. Because I'm not sure I want to know too much about the game before I play it. It may ruin the surprise.

blizzard is already marketing this game, and they are doing it the cheapest way possible. they release a little info here and a little there and the buzz around the net goes crazy. no need to buy adds or whatever, people want this game so bad they will advertise for bliz. plus even if they already had 5 classes finished they would still drag out announcing them to keep people interested

I remember watching a video Interview that said all 5 classes were playable somewhere at some point this summer but I can't recall where to find it. Doesn't surprise me that they are holding off on releasing the other two though.

its what i would do. i mean why release all info right away then go through a year or two of nothing big? slow info keeps people coming back for more, keep the hype machine fueled

They said that D3 will come out inbetween the 1st and 2nd starcraft games. Starcraft 2 #1 comes out in Q1 2009, so let the speculation begin! my guess is Q1 2010. IT was announced 1 year after SC2...so that would lead us to believe...

Diablo 3 will sell to the warcraft and diablo fans.

It won't surpass 10 million units unless it's ported on consoles.

You guys don't read the wiki (http://www.diablowiki.net/Release_Date)? You are missing out.

BlizzCon 2008 brought new information, and we found out that Diablo III was much closer to completion at its announcement at WWI 2008 than StarCraft II was at WWI 2007, more or less confirming a release before 2011.

Starcraft II was announced 1 and ½ years ago and it's released this christmas/Q1 2009. The release date will set a maxium development time for Diablo III as well. So if Starcraft II would be in development 1½ years after announcement, that would mean Diablo III would be in development about a year after the announcement (if there's no complications..). It could mean a summer 2009 release - or christmas 2009.

Like they said many times before, they don't even know what percentage of the game is complete so far. It could be 20% or 80%. It could be released in 4 months or 3 years

I feel that companies (even if they are very type 'A' about the product they release) want to make the most amount of money as fast as possible. I don't think Blizzard is going to hold back D3 just because SC2 is said to be released early 09. They want these games on the market. If D3 has been in production for a while and we just heard about it at WWI then their next idea could be in the wheel house ready to be worked on. One thing I know for sure is that creative people like Blizzard are always thinking of the next thing they would like to do.

If the game is 80% complete then we will be playing it sooner then we all think. If its only at 20% then I'm sure blizzard will keep us interested by giving us tidbits of mouth watering content.

I wouldn't think of SC2 as a barrier to D3 in terms of release dates - it's more of the stress test for Battle.net 2.0. They will need to stress Bnet with SC2 before they bring D3 online with it's more substantial server-client stress architecture.

SCII will be released about Septmber, DIII was said to be released after the first SC expansion, so I am looking at Q1 2010 here, personally, depending on when SCII exp comes out.

Source? I haven't heard anything like this, rather the opposite. It was said that Diablo III will get "the eye of Sauron" after starcraft II.
