View Full Version : Are you already addicted?

bluefly

If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you are:

You visit diii.net several times a day
You have watched some/all of D3 gameplay movies several times
You have read/listened to all interviews with D3 devs
You already planned some of your builds with Barb/Wizard
You already planned how to skip school/work a week or two when D3 comes out
There are times during the day that you think how fun it will be to play D3
You would go and work at Blizzard for no salary just to get a closer look of D3
You would fast forward a year of your life to when D3 releases

Feel free to add stuff I didn't think of

Hmm, diii.net is a nice site, but I don't think visiting it several times a day signals addiction. >>

1. my visits here count in the double digits per day

2. i have watched all videos that i know of

3. same as above, watched all that i know of

4. very minor planning, infact its not really even planning, just ideas like battlemage and 2 handed barb

5. i have planned 2 weeks off for when D3 finally launches, 2 years from now lol

6. yup

7. no, i got a family, my life would end before i even smelled D3

8. cant do this one either, so much i would miss

over all i would say i am hooked and i hate it lol. i went through it with D2 and it was hard, extra hard during beta when i was left on the outside knowing many were playing it

So... where do we sign up for rehab? Anonymous Daiblo3 Addicts anyone? Yes It itches badly. If I had the wealth to do it, I would invest in the D3 project providing 6000 new teamworkers to get it out faster...

"4. very minor planning, infact its not really even planning, just ideas like battlemage and 2 handed barb"

He's clearly in denial here about his addiction.

To OP,

Skip work??! That's outrageous! How would I pay for my diablo3 addiciton??

I tried to chill and just take the info bit by bit and not become hyped/addicted to the game.

The last game that did this to me left me exhausted...but alas...after watching the videos and reading gameplay reviews, and looking at the skill trees....well, I am a junkie and D3 is my new crack

* You visit diii.net several times a day
-yes, i'm visiting this website right now during my VB.net class (is vb.net a good computer language compared to C++/java/html?)
* You have watched some/all of D3 gameplay movies several times
-yes, even downloaded the 20 minute gameplay video of the barb to watch on my cell phone whenever i get bored
* You have read/listened to all interviews with D3 devs
-no, but a good number of it though
* You already planned some of your builds with Barb/Wizard
-i have no clue of the barb/wizard's full skill potential left, there are too many factors to calculate and the skills are going to be changed/erased so why waste my time now?
* You already planned how to skip school/work a week or two when D3 comes out
-not that crazy, besides, i unfortunately live with my parents and they'll stop me from playing too much(i'm 18) and if I get married, I'll have to live with my wife who will do the samething, pretty much out of one rat hole and into another =\
* There are times during the day that you think how fun it will be to play D3
-yes, yes, YES! especially during my 3 straight hours of lecture at VB.net class
* You would go and work at Blizzard for no salary just to get a closer look of D3
-drive 30-40 miles a day, and back? no d3, d4, d5 is even worth it.
* You would fast forward a year of your life to when D3 releases
-d2 isn't the only game in my life, there's also SC2 which will keep me good company next year, and super smash bros. brawl, and call of duty 4, and more

I'm not ashamed of being addicted. It is healthier than some other addictions at least :D. Yes, I would definately work at Blizzard for no pay just to see more of the game even if I couldn't afford it I would scrape by somehow.

lol visom, my wife granted me 1 week of unlimited D3 time, said after that things better get back to normal. so for me the first week will be great, its that second week i plan to take off that will do me in. i am just glad i got enough vacation time each year so i can get over the initial surge

Very.

I waste my time reading about a game with an unknown release date that I know I won't have time to play anyway. I need to corrupt my wife like Diablo corrupted King Leoric. A bit by bit. That's why I whisper strange words to her ear when she's sleeping.

It's sad.

is vb.net a good computer language compared to C++/java/html?

you mean programming languages ;) vb.net is the biggest pile of **** programming language ever developed.. it's pretty easy though, so that's probably why they teach it at your school. it doesn't even compare to c++ or java. html isn't a programming language, it's a markup language used to tell programs what to do with the data enclosed within the markups.

if you are serious about learning to program, you can continue vb.net to learn about object oriented programming and the basic fundamentals of programming in overall. then switch to a big man's programming language like C#, Python or Java.

-drive 30-40 miles a day, and back? no d3, d4, d5 is even worth it.

are you kidding? :p driving 30-40 miles a day is nothing compared to what I drive for a job I don't even like that much! so driving even 50 miles a day is a piece of cake if I get to work near D3 ;)

... if you are serious about learning to program, you can continue vb.net to learn about object oriented programming and the basic fundamentals of programming in overall. then switch to a big man's programming language like C#, Python or Java.

I second that, although if you want to pursue a career in blizzard you should consider C++ :scratchchin:

Apocalypse
22-10-2008, 16:54
yeah 30-40 miles a day is nothing really, i know people who drive 100 a day(not me, not worth it imo), myself i was about 35 a day but my company moved, now its closer to 25

bluefly
22-10-2008, 16:59
yeah i drive around 30 too and it's really not that bad. it only gets bad with traffic and if you want to beat traffic you gotta get up early. something that will become a big problem when D3 comes out :p

visom
22-10-2008, 18:21
But the problem is.... I still can't find a job unfortunately (blame the economy).

Hell, if my job's annual salary is 70k+ I'd happily drive 50miles a day.

As for VB.net, I wanted to take java/C++ first but, vb.net is a pre-requisite for that class so I can't really do anything.

Sorry getting OT

Addicted? Pfft..how can I be addicted to a game that hasn't even come out yet. I mean sure, it's a sequal to one of my favorite games of all time and it looks amazing but it ends there. I would definitely say I'm looking forward to D3 and maybe I'm even slightly obsessed with it, but addicted? No way.

Of course my girlfriend doesn't believe me, but what does she know? It's like I've told her 100 times before, "I can quit D3 anytime I want to there just aren't any other games coming out that I'm exited about". I've got this completely under contro.. *****twitch*****twitch*****

Gaaaaah! Where is that damn gameplay video!

'click' 'click'

ahhhh yeah that's the good stuff...

Sadly I'm an addict. I don't watch the gameplay every day but when i feeling depressed (aka withdraw) I watch them.
I could be doing something productive with my time, but i choose to scrape every last piece of info and update out of various web sites. I cant and won't stop.:crazyeyes::crazyeyes:

if you are serious about learning to program, you can continue vb.net to learn about object oriented programming and the basic fundamentals of programming in overall. then switch to a big man's programming language like C#, Python or Java.

In the beginning it doesn't really matter what language you choose. It's more important to learn the object oriented mindset and the basics as bonomel says.

I would strongly suggest either staying in the Microsoft world, VB.Net or C#, and learn about design patterns and how to maximize your use of Visual Studio 2005 or 2008. (If you know either VB or C# you learn the other in one week, it's just different syntax basically, so calling C# a grown up language and VB.Net crap is a total lie.)

Or you choose to go the Java road and learn the major frameworks and editors like Eclipse, Swing et.c.

After that you can continue with design patterns (proven architectures, well documented to work good) and TDD (Test Driven Design) and DDD (Domain Driven Design), and learn a few project methods as RUP and agile.

Also consider if you want to focus on web or client programming. Both are good to know but start with one of them. There are major differences when working with a web based application or a client application so they are separate knowledge areas.

For me personally I went the Microsoft road and has been there for 10 years now as a developer/architect and I can really recommend it for a career :)

/Magnus

PS! And yes, I really really look forward to D3 but I can't say I'm addicted... yet lol

you started playing Diablo 2 again to try and fill the void that Diablo 3 has left you with...

Ah well

True. D2 isn't big enough. So I quit again. Ha. Actually I don't find it fun to 600000 Baal / Key / Meph runs in endgame. Toooo boring.

Last night, I dreamed that D3 launched. Blizzard did so because the game was actually completed a very long time ago but they wanted to build up some anticipation and mass hysteria before they launched the game, for better profits. They did so by feeding some news every now on then(and here is the dune tresher...etc). So it was very cool to play but I had to reroll because the barbarian was dull. Wizard rocked though, until real life (alarm clock that is) hit me like a sledgehammer...

captain
04-11-2008, 05:03
that stinks. I have similar dreams. I have not had any diablo dreams as of yet. But It seems similar to dreaming that you've found a boat load of money only to wake up realizing it was just a dream.

No, I think all the people I know would call me nerd like 99999 times. Then who knows what they would do to me

-You would fast forward a year of your life to when D3 releases
No, lots of stuff I would miss, but definitely wish I could make it hurry up

Luckily enough for me, the one thing that kept me from being addicted are the lame whiners. There was so much complaining and crying about stupid stuff when the game was announced that I quickly put an end to following the dev. Blizzard has NEVER dissapointed with their games so far so I decided to keep my faith for their work and just wait until the official release day to start learning about this game.

Well Blizzard disappointed me big time with several dozen serious problems in d2 that persisted for many years; problems that broke the game over and over. I think the whinners are not lame at all; they have very legitamate complaints and fears from their broken d2 experiences.

I actually think that Blizzard has matured alot since D2 was released. I really hope that they will not make the same mistakes of D2 in D3.
They listen to the community alot more now than a few years back.

Im addicted, but more in a general kind of way. I get like this for every game I like and since there are tons of games I like .....

When D3 actually comes out ill be visiting this site at least 20 times a day, just as I did when I played d2. You need to stay on the ball trade wise!

But as to being addicted.. Hell, I even visit battle.net forums many times a day just to read stuff related to D3 even though I can't post there.
