I kinda understand the pricing values, but how are these things paid for. When vendors have a key (eg. Pgem=1, Pul=40, etc etc.) Do the sellers typically only take Runes/PGems or will they take equivelant gear? Is it impolite to make an offer for something labelled [35] and pay with 35 PGems, should you have mid/high runes for these things?
Thanks.
1) They will have a iso posted of what they need, some may need pgems / runes while others will need items. most specify for both though. some traders will also specify easy tradeables they may take.
2) depending on realm they may value items differently. but as far as i can see, there is nothing wrong with that. it really depends on the seller.

You sound like a decent legit player, unfortunately they are few and far between on Bnet particularly when it comes to trading.
The reply you got was correct in every way but I would add that not all players will take gear equivilent to what they are specifically asking for.
Eg Game title N ist o IK, you go in and offer 40 pgms for IK (40 pgms = ist), the vendor may well say ok fine, but more often than not he will spout stuff like 'Read the game description noob' and then procede to hurl abuse at you. Such is the mentality of some Bnet players.
Good for you that you ask the question of politeness and game etiquette. I try to be respectful in all dealings on Bnet, shame most don't bother and see it as an opportunity to insult, abuse and basically disrespect anyone for any reason.
Try the trade forums on this site. It is full of legit players who will not insult or exploit any lack of knowledge you may have.
Good luck

This is funny, because it's how I used to react in game when I played. I didn't actually hurl insults or call people noobs but I did get quite annoyed by people offering other things. Mainly because I hate trading on bnet and if all I get is an something of equal value to what I want, then that's one more trade I have to make. That annoys me to the point of plain not making the trade. If I say I want something specifice, I want only that. If I want an offer, I'll say so. That's in game anyways.
On the forum is entirely different. I'm much more open to conversations about offers and much less firm in my prices, mainly because trading on the forum doesn't usually bother me so I'm fine with extending the process.

It appears to me the OP is asking how trades are done here in the forums and what Gorny says is right on. Plus the others are also about bnet. You are best to trade here in the trade forums, I have never had a trade done here go bad as may be the case on bnet.
Look in the us east trade moderators signature for some advise, he has a couple of links that are very good for beginners.
As for when a trader puts [35] this many times, but not always, mean a BIN (buy it now), price, 35 Pgems for the item.
Cheers and welcome to the forums
I'd flame too if someone had offered me 40 pgems instead of a rune I want.

Thanks fellas. I'm fine with tearing somebody up/getting beaked on Bnet, but I just wanted to know so as to keep it civil on these boards which I'm growing to like a lot.

One more thing, can someone explain to me a mule trade as opposed to a different kind of trade?
