View Full Version : Light Sorceress Best Equipment?

Ok, I've posted about this before and I think I've nailed down two options that I will decide between. Hopefully you can help me to decide. I'll eventually be getting a CTA too, but it will stay in my inventory between casts, not on switch.

Ultimate Light Sorc Setup

Option One:

Act 2 Holy Freeze Mercenary
Ethereal Infinity Cryptic Axe
Duress (or Gloom?) until I get another Fortitude
Vampire's Gaze

Sorc:

Helm: Griffon's Eye with Light Facet (25FCR)
Amulet: 15+FCR Amu with at least 1 sorc skills w/ res or 2 without
Armour: Fortitude AP or Vipermagi Wyrmhide with 34+15 All Res (Um'd) (25 or 30FCR)
Belt: Arach's (20FCR)
Gloves: Magefist Battle Gauntlets (20FCR)
Boots: Eth War Travs
Ring 1: 10FCR with All Res
Ring 2: Nature's Peace (I'll probably get a SoJ to wear when not doing Nihl)
Weapon 1: Crescent Moon
Weapon 2: Wizardspike (50FCR)
Shield 1: 34 FCR Spirit Monarch
Shield 2: 35 FCR Spirit Monarch

Option 2:

Act 2 Prayer Mercenary
Ethereal Insight Thresher (Or maybe just a plain scythe to prevent IM, not sure)
Duress (or Gloom?)
Vampire's Gaze

Sorc: Only noting things that are different

Armour: Has to be Vipermagi Wyrmhide
Weapon 1: Ethereal Infinity Cryptic Axe
Boots: Probably would go with Tri-Resist, FRW Rares in this setup

My skill setup is Pure Lightning with no ES/TK.

With Option 1, I'd be hitting over the 117 BP on Primary with 200FCR on switch for teleporting. I'd, however, have to depend on my mercenary for Infinity which makes things like rushing through Hell Chaos and WSK a little bit of a pain. I'd have better resists, however, and much better FHR than option 2.

If I do Option 1, should I go with Fortitude? Or should I stick with my Vipermagi for my +1 skills and better resists?

With Option 2, I lose Merc dependence and gain a really great mana source when he's around. I still hit the 117 BP and the 200 FCR on switch. If I calculated it correctly, I could get away with a 12FCR Amulet with this setup as well. I do have terrible FHR in primary weapon switch, but my FHR would still be at the 60BP (with my 5FHR SC) on my teleporting switch. My resists would also be a bunch worse. My damage with all the -Res, however, would be rather impressive.

My main uses for this character happen to be Key Running, quick Boss killing (I wouldn't call it MFing with my low MF) and Rushing.

Edit: Ideally I'll get two Lite Skillers with FHR and two Shimmering SCs of Balance for rounding out my FHR all around but I'm guessing those are terribly expensive items.

I sense another long drawn out debate about shields, about weapons, about armor.

I would say: whatever works for you. Except for the forti. Useless in a sorc. The armor is nice, but you lack so many important attributes such as FCR, skills etc.

My opinion:
(Stormshield > Spirit)
(CM > Eschutas)
(Viper > CoH)

There is not a better set up.

What are you looking for?
Max dmg?
200fcr?
Suvivability?
MF?
PvP?
PvM?

Also depends on your playstile.

Forti has FCR. Basically I'd be giving up some resists and +1 skills for a huge amount of Def.

And, I don't do PvP, just PvM so I'm just looking for probably the more versatile setup. I think I'll be going with the Infinity setup, myself, but it all hinges on finding that 15+FCR Amulet.

you dont need a high def on pvp.

You are not supose to get hit as a sorc.

sorcs can be tanks or not depending on the build. my nova sorc for instance even though es build can tank in chaos easily unless she hits mana burners, even with 1k+ life and 3k+ mana.

just one mistake, it was supose do be PvM and not PvP.

On PvM unless your build is made to be a tank, you are no supose to get hit.
The fast teleport and the ranged attacks from the sorcs make it in such way that you should not get hit.

Nova sorcs have to stay closer to the mobs than a CL sorc, that way you have to be able to take more hits.

by this logic, you shouldnt pump vit at all then?

Unfortunately on the real bnet, there are lag issues, and there will be time outs, there will be desynchs , and even worse, there will be gloams and ranged attackers and little stygian dolls you cant see. Increased durability on a sorc is good, no matter if your playing style is meant to be tank or not.

you are not supose to get hit, but you will. that is why you pump vita. (or dex if max block or energy if you are a ES build)

Why Eth War Travs? Its armour so you will wear them down and they will break. Do you mean Eth Treks since those have auto repair?

Why not consider CoH? No FCR but you can still hit 200% FCR with a Wizzy spike and the rest of your gear.

Why Vamp's Gaze? Wouldn't Andarial's Visage be better for most purposes? Especially if you socket it with an IAS/fire resist jewel.

Eth War Travs because I just found them. lol

I wouldn't mind non-eth ones but I just haven't found any yet. As far as Chains of Honour, I'm kind of leaning towards actually equipping the Infinity myself which means I need the FCR on my armour piece.

As far as Vamp Gaze, I didn't need the Strength from Andy's and I don't really feel the +2 skills would help my mercenary as much as the DR from Vamp Gaze.

Here is what my lightning sorc is using, i'm using it for similar purposes (meph/andy/pits/nith/countess, rushing).

Shako (p topaz ofc)
3 lightning skills ammy (trying to find one with MF, or one with FCR so i can ditch the 10 FCR ring for a soj or another nagel)
Chains of Honor (65 res, 25 mf)
Hoto (30-40 res, low one is fine, 40 fcr)
Arachs (20 fcr)
War travs
Magefist (20 fcr)
10 FCR Ring
Natures Peace/30MF Nagel
Spirit monarch ( >= 27% to hit the 117 bp)
CTA/Spirit on switch

My merc is using
Andys Visage
Ebugged Fort (~3.6k def)
Infinity Eth CV
My merc rarely dies, pretty much the only time is from iron maiden when i choose to do chaos. His damage is a pretty decent 1-6k, and that is with a low ED infinity.

I find this setup to work really well, i clear the runs i mentioned extremely quickly. Although you don't hit 200 FCR for traveling, i don't find it to be a problem.

I recommend infy over insight

And andys over vamp since andy has +skills AND ias

i peronsally think all u need is 117 to hit the second last breakpoint for casting lightning/chain. 103fcr for teleport is fast enough.

i also think using eschutas is better than cm on sorc cuz u need dat 40fcr anyhow. unless u hit 103fcr without using it. for 200fcr u definitely need fcr from wep.

vipermagi is definitely better on sorc than fort.

if u lack res even with vipermagi + mara then use sacntuary. it's also easier to max block with it.

I have had a lightning sorc for a long time and all you need is Tal's Set. That's right you heard me Tal's Set. I run eldritch, shenk, pindle, meph and baal in that order and very rarely get killed. You do so much damage with a lightning sorc anyway that it really doesn't matter PVM. I find a lot of good stuff just MFing with her.
