I just started playing about 3 months ago and I have been playing PvM only. The chars I have made are MF Meteorb Sorc, UberSmiter, HDIN rusher. I like playing these chars but I have taken each one into a Duel game and tried to see how I do.
I haven't faired too well but I blame that on my inexperience and I think I am going up against some pretty good duelers. I just wanted to get some help on how to get better or maybe I have to start a new char that might be easier to duel with.
I have a couple ?'s though from reading PvP threads that I am totally confused on first. What is desynching? I have seen that a lot and I have no clue what that is. What kind of char is a BVC? Again, totally clueless. Would I realistically be able to use any of my chars from PvM and duel with or should I start over? Since I just started, I have never made a necro or druid as those seem to be on the list for decent PvP chars. Are they easy builds or would they cost a lot to get the good gear?
Any help would be awesome!

Welcome to pvp.
You probably dont want to pvp on your pvm characters, most builds made for pvm do not fare well in pvp and visa versa. If you want to pvp you should consider making dedicated pvp characters.
For your questions: desync = desynchronizing from the server. This means what is displayed on your screen is not necessarily what the server sees. This may cause opponents to appear half a screen away from you when they are actually right next to you and you might be getting hit by something "invisible". the way to deal with this is just experience in understanding how desync works and being able to predict it and avoid the desync hits. Just duel a lot and you will catch on to when an opponent is desyncing, after a while its easy to avoid.
BvC = barbarian vs caster class. This is one of the most popular barbarian builds vs all classes, weak vs other barbarians, skimping on defense vs melee and not having block, this barbarian is meant to catch casters, stomp on them, and pk them in a few short whirls. Guide found here: http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666078
Necros and Druids are among the top tier pvp characters, very popular and very powerful in the right hands.
There are a lot of viable classes in pvp, and its one of the things that keeps this game fun. Class balance is a lot of rock paper scissors with there being no "end-all best class", everything has a weakness or can be countered somewhere.
Classes such as hammerdins/smiters/bvcs/bonenecros/winddruids are popular top tier builds because they can dish out a lot of damage very quickly, and also can not be absorbed. Top tier elemental classes such as blizzard sorcs/fb sorcs/trappers/cszons and many other elemental classes are very powerful but may be absorbed in public (anything goes) games. In league games or gm (good manner) games players play by soft rules that include not using more than one piece of sorb or +max resist equipment, this make duels a lot more fair for elemental caster classes.
I would recommend looking for gm duels as you will see a lot more variety of classes being played. As well as bm (bad manner anything goes) dueling can be very frustrating for new players with constant nking, healing, potting, towning, sorbing, and other griefing tactics not allowed under gm rules.
For a list of builds to choose from, I suggest you browse the guides thread: http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533767 and see what appeals to you. There are a lot of viable classes to choose from, some take more practice than others.

vouch what w1zAdept has said.
my $0.02:
start with a class that you enjoy PvM'ing with, and one that you feel you already play quite well.
for a cheap and cheerful entry point into PvP, fireball sorceress' are pretty nifty, although you can and will get 'sorbed in pub games.
the main thing to remember is that you will face a pretty steep learning curve. don't feel bad if your getting stomped early on. we ALL got slaughtered the first time we ventured into the pvp world.
try to find some friends to duel with (check the Duellers Registry stickied at the top of this forum) for some people to play and learn with.

That's what you really wanted to say am I right? ^_^
Back on topic <.< LLD is a nice option, the gear is somewhat less expensive as a lot of the builds can be effective enough with plain life charms where as majority of hld need high runewords and life/skillers do well. Also lld duel games are more controlled environment of moving and attacking where as hld is more spaming of spells with high fcr. Also another good point is that there's a limited number of immature players in low duels. Bad thing about this is that there aren't as many people to find duels with, and certain rare items for lld are hard to find.
I find hld to be very fun also just to see some funny reactions, flashy moves and a faster pace to try to keep up with your opponents. What ever you decide to do just have fun with it
