Ok, I know there's some sort of bugged stuff in game to make some huge def, but if it can't be repaired, wouldn't it be rather expensive to keep rebuying this stuff to keep the def value?

Eth armours can be used to make high Def Runewords for Mercenaries (as Mercenary gear doesn't lose durability). Also, for the Runeword Exile, the shield has self-repair, so although the item loses durability, it gets it back over time.
There are various decent items in the game that can spawn ethereal but have self repair mod (Sandstorm Treks, Hone Sundan, various Rare Armours/Weapons).
Also u could always just zod something to make it indestructible.
Yes. Mainly for mercenary or other items/runewords that can't lose durability (like BOTD)
Or up eth crystal to phase blade which has no durability listed.

botd has the indestructible mod so it wont really matter to begin with unless the base weapon which it was made in was originally broken.

I know it has. Hence my post. Use eth weapon for botd for bonus damage.

there is also the aesthetic factor. some people like eth caster weapons because it looks cool.
Or you can buy eth armour because it's cheaper and then simply replace it once it's broken.
Eth shako's should be quite cheap and on a smart played caster, it's shouldn't lost durability fast. So once it start to break, buy a new one, or buy them in stock so you can change fast.
P.S. and don't forget the ethereal titans that replenish anyway.
P.P.S. caster weapons don't lose durability as you won't use them to fight, just put something harmless on your second mouse bottom like telekinesis or unsommun. That way you can't even lost durability by mistake.

it's also true that some items take forever to break. I found an eth 70 res kiras like two ladders ago and have it on my pvp hdin in stack situations. it still has plenty of durability left.
