Deadly Strike, Crushing Blow etc?

Can someone describe how the deadly strike, crushing blow etc. enhancers work? I know they amplify damage but in what way?

A deadly strike deals double damage. Crushing blows deal a certain fraction of the opponent's life, no matter how much life it is.
