View Full Version : Will there be synergies in D3?
In other words, will certain skills be given additional benefits by points invested in other skills? Like in post-1.10 D2?

If you look at the skill trees posted in the wiki, there are skills that are passive skills, but there are no synergies as such. Put another way, if you put points in active skills, there is no benefit to other active skills, but there are passive skils that benefit active skills and your stats
No. Shame imo, I was hoping for synergies of power equivalent to LF (+1% per point invested - a genuine decision) and in a few instances self-synergies to create a suitable balance between diminishing returns and +skill items.
Its set up to not need synergies. Instead of synergies we have passive skills that effect active skills and the effectiveness of stats in a variety of ways.

there were passive skills in d2 before synergies... so they aren't the same thing.
synergy was a good idea imho. but I haven't looked at the new tree as much.
Synergies were a good idea in Diablo II because there were a lot of skills which would never be used. The synergies allowed people to use some of the earlier skills without having the skill become useless after he/she hits level 24/30 and gets the skill that will last them the rest of the game. In a game with a well designed skill tree Your skills won't become obsolete because you obtained a skill that you can't have until a later stage.

Yes, but as was mentioned, most of these passive skills of D3 directly affect active skills, or your character stats, replacing the synergy system of LoD.

after looking at the skill trees for the D3 characters i dont think the game needs synergies at all. like others have said, was good for D2 though
no synergy en d3, only passive skills
Bit of a shame though, once you max your skill then it's the best that it's going to get?

As has been mentioned by me and others, we have passive skills that boost active skills.

I bet there will be synergies given in a patch right after they make your character useless just like in D2.

by definition, thats how it should be lol. anyway i think the passives are a much better way of boosting than the old synergies style

You can probably boost it a bit further with items, or dare I say it, inscriptions.

Hmm.... I wonder if there will be Unique Runes.

the one thing I liked about synergies was that unlike the existing passive skills in d2 they told you what the bonus they were giving was in the skill. I'd like to see that. for example cold mastery for sorc doesn't have any mention when you hover over the frozen orb skill, even though it does affect it.
I personally never really thought synergies were unique, just a different passive effect.

Unique runes would be fun..as long as they're not 10 times as powerful as regular runes. The last thing we need is there being a clear cut number 1 rune option for socketing a skill. I love the fact that each rune (at least the ones we've seen so far) has a different but equally useful effect. Variation is definitely a good thing in my mind.
Agreed, while runes can be expected to be clearly superior than variants in given situations, hopefully overall the choice will be a subjective one. A unique rune should be changing the essential nature of a skill significently so, rather than competing with other runes, would be used in a build with a different focus altogether.

He isn't that fond of synergies as implemented in D2. To express this dislike he chose to imitate Darth Vader.
