Most of us are eagerly awaiting the release of the third installment of the Diablo series. Since Blizzard hasn't announced anything remote resembling a release date it is time for some unadulterated guesswork. Wrugoin (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/member.php?u=319026) already started the Unofficial Diablo 3 Release Date Pool (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=694605). A capital idea, but the thread proved hard to manage. This new thread will be managed by me until an Admin decides otherwise.
Rules
1. One Vote per account.
2. Make a post with your date in this thread. Motivation is optional.
3. Date format must be (DD/MM/YY).
4. Must have at least 10 posts on Diii.net to attempt to limit new account creation votes.
5. Pool will last until an official Blizzard announcement is made concerning a release date.
6. Winning date will be determined by the actual US release date.
7. If multiple accounts have chosen the same release date, the winner will be the one who first chose it. The runner up will be the second person etc.
As of now there are no prizes for the winner. This may or may not change depending on the Admins.

Seems like there is still a lot of work ahead and a lot of potential problems. It seems that with game development, projects tend to take longer than expected, especially when there are a lot of new features that never have been developed before (b.net 2.0 for example).

Id say Summer 09. Blizzard is seeing the hype all the fans are creating. They know the game is going to be a hit. You can definately bet bliz execs will throw more money at getting this thing out on shelves. Summer 09.....all the kiddes will be done with school and the hype will be at its peek.

I've noticed that Americans categorically fail to get the date format right. Although it is annoying I think it would disqualify too many people so I allow it.

What if it's a date like "2/1/10" then you wouldn't know if the poster meant January or February. :p In any case, I think it makes more sense to put the day first.

I agree, the American date format and measurements are silly and unnecessarily complicated. But on the other hand you could say the same thing about England's currency. The best idea is to have a full metric system, including currency - like in Australia or New Zealand, or in some European countries.

Looks like there's lots of guesses on fall 2009, summer 2010 and fall 2010. Since the new information about 4th and 5th classes came, I'd put my money on summer 2010 - maybe on the "diablo day", June 29th. Too bad I already guessed :)

Looking at the release date list, you guys are very optimistic and highly unrealistic. I think your memories have faded about the push backs of diablo ii and even starcraft ii. 2012 at the very earliest.

The history always provides a good guesswork of what's in the future.
I remember anticipating for Warcraft 3 every day. When it entered private beta, it took about 3-4 months until a public beta was released. After the public beta in autumn, War3 was released summer of the following year.
Now I'm pretty certain SC2 will be out before Diablo III. DIII doesn't even have the acts completed never mind balancing and play testing.
SC2 will be out Thanksgiving/Christmas of 2009 at the EARLIEST. They haven't even entered any form of beta yet. It'll be finished by probably Summer of 2010.
DIII? :laugh: We won't see it until end of 2010 at the EARLIEST. Probably more like mid-late 2011

Tuesday seems to be a popular release day for videogames, and you just know they wouldn't release it on a Friday because then we might actually be able to concentrate at work/school on that week instead of either staying awake until 4am playing or thinking about the game all day (or both :D ). That said, I'm thinking a spring release for this one. It's which spring that's going to kill me. ;)

Reasoning: Blizzard is aiming for a 2010 holiday release. Blizzard is always late even against their own deadlines. So, June 15, 2011 is my guess.
I graduate in 12/2010 so I am hoping for a 2011 date. If they release it sooner, my graduation date will have to be pushed back. My diablo addiction started when I was in high school and it comes before finishing my degree. Come to think of it, I did not start my degree until I was bored with Dii.

So for D3 there will be the need for unique functions in the BNet2-System. The system for D3 itself is nearing polishement, as I was free to conclude from Kotakus review of the gamescomclient. And it's simpler to add new functions to a system before release than patching them in afterwards - not to mention that unforseen bugs could lead to the necessity of rewriting the whole code, which would be difficult to sell after already releasing the core system. I for I would put back the esports-part of bnet2 (and thus SC2), which core is integrated essentially and only needs to be debugged, evtl. balanced and polished, to work the 2nd game in the line into the system, eventually making it first i.t.l. with the same decision.

The inventory still needs some work, and the rune abilities cannot be used in this demo, as some journalist pointed out, meaning a lot of game facets are still under heavy work.
And looks like we are just beginning to see Act 2, with next year's Blizzcon probably rounding off both acts 3 and 4. I also doubt they will release both remaining classes this year, if they show one at all. And then AFTER they show the remaining acts and final class/es, the game has to go into Beta, which takes a lot of preparation, testing time, and feedback time, and probably last minute changes which take more time. Blizzard love to take their time, we all know that :P:P
I just hope this Blizzcon isnt a huge disappointment. *sigh*
For me a nice release date would be February 2010, their 20th anniversary of their founding.
But REALISTICALLY, looking at their recent failures on any of their game's or patches' deadlines of all franchises .... mid to end 2011. Not earlier. I would bet my money on it. There's a bigger chance SC2 and a WOW expansion come out in 2010.

Are you implying the game is in beta phase right now? No way. Beta phase is when its ready to be released for public testing, Blizzard's policy is not to keep internal Betas but put them on PTR's for fans to play and test.

One rumor is definitively fake. A dozen rumors, together with the officially released (sometimes seemingly unconnected) infos can give you a hint (and nothing more, yep) to what's really going on.

Like i said: We're in a time of speculation. There are only few facts around and a lot of rumors, so it's more like building up a conspiracy theory when talking of future developement. But you're right. I'm thinking more of possibilities than to sceptically argue anything down: The world becomes bad enough by itself. No need to speed up the process...
As to realism: It all comes down to the marketing-strategy. And there I see only a few, tiny bits of info, where there should have been many big pieces available. Considering that Blizzard tends to announce their games only if they're at least halveway solid, it indicates a closure on info up to release, or perhaps open beta. Although I wonder if they just simply use release to finalize the internal one, thus concentrating on a heavy patchwork-phase afterwards (... as they did with D2 and LoD).

Yeah I know about pre-1.10, but its been their recent policy after that to do open betas, with anything include simple patches.
Its also been mentioned somewhere that there will indeed be a public beta of D3.

And a huge epic fight in the Arreat crater shown in the trailer leading up to the Bastions Keep, hopefully its some gigantic tower ala Orthanc from LOTR.

If I knew the guy, I wouldn't call it rumor, but info, and would be starter of a rumor since... ;) It's the typical "a friend, of a friend, of a friend works at..."-kinda thingy. And I just love to speculate :)
I think we should hold the discussion right here and call it a truth, because we obviously agree to disagree, both only based on the feelings and thoughts we got from the information already out as well as the ongoing speculation. And we will only be abel to deepen that. (But it was fun discussing with you :) )

This is the third one in a short time. I'm not psychic people. I've got no idea if you use the stupid system (American) or the correct one (the rest of the world).
Why is it stupid because it's American? And why is the other system "correct" just because it's the one you use?
Just curious, as I think the American way of writing dates in numerals makes tons of sense.

LOL Simply NO. Americans also have to use their own word or version of something for everything, just because their ego encompasses the horizon and beyond. For football they created soccer, there was Rothmans so they created Marlboro, manual driving they went automatic, crap Im out of any other ideas atm but theres so much more ....

Either you go from smallest to largest (dd/mm/yyyy) or from largest to smallest (yyyy/mm/dd). Going from middle to small to large (mm/dd/yyyy) makes no sense. There is no logical reason for it.
