View Full Version : What to equip a Blizzard sorc with?

At the moment, I'm rebuilding my Blizzard sorc, who I'll use more or less exclusively to glitch run hell Meph. I'm not quite sure about which items to use, though. I'm considering several options, but am not sure which of these would be best, so I'd like to get some opinions from more experienced players.

All options will include Magefist, a Spirit Monarch, and War Traveler. I reach the 105 FCR breakpoint with any of them. I'll use a Gull Dagger and Rhyme on switch, for an additional 125 MF. Also included is a Gheed's, and possibly Nagelrings, boosting my MF about another 90-100. So, with War Traveler, that's about 245-275 MF. Even more if I get some MF small charms.

Equipment option 1:
Full Tal's... I gotta say, I love this set, and my current Blizz sorc is using it. +skills, 168 MF, great resists, +15% cold skill damage. Not as much damage as option 2, though. This setup with torch, 2 cold skillers, 1 cold facet and a Battle Order will result in 6,181.8 Blizzard damage and -175% enemy cold resistance.

Equipment option 2:
Nightwing's Veil + Vipermagi + Mara's + Oculus + Snowclash... probably the best option damage-wise, unless I use a Death's Fathom instead of the Oculus. However, this setting only gives 75 res all and an irrelevant 50 MF. I can switch Nightwing's Veil for a Shako to get another 50 MF. I'd lose the cold skill damage, but even without it, my damage would be higher than with full Tal's. Not much, though. This setup with torch, 2 cold skillers, 1 cold facet and a Battle Order will result in 7,085.28 Blizzard damage (6,413 with Shako instead of Nightwing's) and -175% enemy cold resistance.

Equipment option 3:
Nightwing's Veil + Tal's Armor + Tal's Ammy + Tal's Belt + Oculus... Less damage than the other 2 options, even less resistances (except for Lightning), but the most MF (218). After calculating the damage of only 6,167.72 I can rule this option out. Least damage, least resists. Definitely not worth the increased MF in my opinion.

Anyway, long story short: What would you guys suggest? Maybe another setting even? What would be the best option for a Meph runner?

There are no best settings, all those you listed works just fine.
You just enough mana (merc just slow you down), that 105fcr and
good luck.

Damage is not big issue as glitch meph sorcs are easy to get around lvl 85-90 so they have good damage. So almost any setup gives enough damage.

I would use only 3 items to get that 105fcr, wizpike(rare jool), spirit and arach, those give plenty of mana too, so insight merc not needed.
Shako+3Cold30...34MF amu,Tal armor,nagels or over 30mf rings,38-40gheed,38-40mf gloves and WarTravs.
And some mana charms with run speed to totally avoid merc use. No skillers, just anni+torch. Gives +11 cold skills, good resist, nice mana and good mf.
No BO,facets,skillers needed.

But almost any setup works there, getting there takes longer than killing, so use decent mana pool, so runs goes smoothly without merc. IMO, running speed in town is nice to have too, that why those 7run 40-50mana grand charms.

My personal choice for MF:
Shako
Ptopazed Skulders
4 Isted Mnarch
Isted Occy / 2Ist Ali Baba
Maras
Chance
Tals Belt
Travs
(get resists, FHR, Resist, +skills from charms)

Wizzy+Spirit for safer Teleport on switch.

My Favorite setup for DMG
NightWing
Ormus
Phaton / Doom for PvP, so the guy can stack as much cold resist as he want and he will still have -100 resist)
Spirit
3 Cold Skills +100 Life
Arachs
Soj/Soj
Magefist/Trang Glooves
Treks/Travs/SilkWaves

CTA+spirit on switch.

----

If you are key running, looking for socketables, rune farming use the setup2, if you Mephing, Andying, or other things use the setup 1.

Blizzard Sorcs are cannons, they will always have a powerfull atack, using teleport wisely you wont get hit so you wont die.

Here's my Meph-setup:

level95, pure blizzsorc,
1000 life (exactly)
Resists: 1f / -10c / 23l / -39p
662 MF and 63+ FCR

Occy (Ist)
Shako (PTopaz)
Tals Belt (15%) + Ammy + Armour (PTopaz)
'Spendor' Grim Shield
Chance Guards (40)
Nagelring (30)
rare ring (18 MF, 10 FCR)
Wartrav's (49)

Switch: 'Harmony' Hunter's Bow (or 'Insight' Halberd if I need mana, which you probably will for glitch-runs)
Gheeds (40)
25x 7% MF SCs
3x 6% MF SCs
TP scroll (just in case)

I keep Harmony for running through town (the Vigor aura rocks). I tend to run Pindle more than Meph, and don't like to swap equipment.

Thanks for all the input. However, I decided to use full Tal's. I calculated damage, MF, life, mana and resists for several item combinations and found that full Tal's simply offers the best results overall. I can do about 6,100 Blizzard damage, have maxed resists, 86% FHR, about 1,200 life without Battle Orders at lvl 85 (everything after that will be hard to do without ever going past Act 3), 105% FCR and can quite easily achieve 500% MF with lots of free space in my inventory, since I don't have to rely on resistance or life charms. If I fill that up with 7% MF small charms, I can probably get to 600%-650%... You might not need maxed resists, but I tend to get hit by elemental attacks quite often, so high resists are rather important for me.

Full Tal's is the way to go dual tree sorcs. However, for single tree sorcs it's only the cheapest way to go. I mean full Tal's will work just fine, but if you have access to a Death Fathom (which judging from your original post was not entirely clear to me) I suggest you put it to good use. DF is only a 2nd choice when the switch is not used for increasing mf% on kill.

My Blizzsorc setup (currently lvl 90):

DF 22% (5/5)
Spirit 35
Crafted ammy 2/10/31mf
Fortuitous ring of fortune 40
Bahamuts ring of fortune 118/24
Shako (p. topaz)
Tal's plate (p.topaz)
Arach
Trang's gloves
War Traveler

Switch:
eth Ali Baba (2*ist)
monarch (4*ist)

Inventory:
Gheeds 40
1*Cold skiller with 7%frw
rest sc's add 5% fhr, 3% frw, xx mana, xx +res (esp. light and cold), xx mf%

This gives:
1043 life / 643 mana
75% light & cold res / 40% fire res / 1% poison res
473% mf / 722% on kill switch
105 fcr / 60 fhr / 35 frw
-175% enemy cold res
Blizz dmg 5643-5929 (higher when GS is finally maxed)
8 free inventory squares

In comparison to my former Full Tal's Blizzsorc setup:

Lost:
170ish life / 70 ish mana / 30ish poison res / 30% fhr (1fph)

Won:
~1/4 Blizz dmg
