View Full Version : Ideas to enhance variations
We can criticize all we want, but understand that the creaters are first and foremost GAMERS. like the rest of us. I'm confident the additional content (which has not been reveled) will entertain us for years to come.
as for the auto stats crisis some people are having. people feel they won't be able to costomize "tunes". I feel if quests and other content reward players with different variations of their choice. people would be less concerned. just an idea though.
i feel a wizard with the ability to physically trash an enemy would be cool. maybe give them some martial arts in their training. spin kicks are nice.
it would also be neat if the barbarian got more muscular as he/she gained strenght points. Then it wouldn't seem strange that an enemy is anilated by a single axe blow.
I think it'd be nice if every 5 levels or so you get to move around some attribute points. Or maybe you can carry around certain gear or equipment that ups the gain in certain stats while maybe lowering others. I dunno, whatever.
Blizzard can do whatever the hell they want with this game and you all damn well know it's going to be awesome.
Agreed. Im not worried a bit. The hardest thing for me is the wait.
its a good idea to allow players to choose their attributes at a certain lvl. But im not sure the mechanics are exactly the same. the new rune system will change things up for people.

The rune system is going to be nothing short of amazing. How many different kinds of runes are there going to be? 5? 10? 25? Each one will affect every skill out there in a different manor. Some people are going to go for all out brute force, some are going to just boost their passives, some are going to go for more technical boosts, etc.
It's going to rock.

I think it would be nice to enhance spell effects for casters. They already have runes to enhance funtionality, but what if you could change how a spell is casted?
What I mean by that is, what if you had the option to change the area that an Area of Effect spell covered? Wouldn't it be cool to roll the mouse wheel to enlarge (or shrink) the radius that Meteor or Blizzard landed, therefore spreading damage amongst many enemies, or concentrating it all on one? That to me sounds very useful, and challenging to control at the same time.
"But how can you roll the mouse wheel to change the Area of Effect if rolling it already switches between skills?"
Good question that took a while for me to answer. Perhaps assigning lets say Blizzard to the right click skill, you can opt to change the AoE by hitting a key first before casting. If you don't like to switch the AoE, or don't care - you don't have to press the key and it will do it's default AoE.
This type of variation could also apply to novas. What if instead of having a nova explode in a 360 degree ring around you, you could decide to make it shoot out in a narrow or wide fan in front of you, concentrating damage? Interesting idea that wouldn't take long for Blizzard to investigate and try. I personally think customizable casting would add even more variety and replayability, along with adding a slighty more challenging touch to the game.
What do you guys think?
This is just my opinion but, I'd rather a class stick to its own role than take on another's.
Melee sorcs for example, do not appeal to me, lore and gaming wise.
As for now, I have no real problem with D3 (ironically, my biggest dislike about D3 is choosing genders for class). I'm focused on getting my hands on it first.
Don't know if it fits in this Thread, but here goes.
How about something like an achievement list? I really like it in HGL.
For example, if you kill 1000 undead / demons / beast, you can collect an award. Starting with some gold or simple gem. As you progress in the game and killed like 1000000 of one sort of enemy you can get items or something worth wild. This (for me anyway) is maybe a great way to enhance replayability of the game since you want all the awards of all the achievements.
Your thoughts?

@mik: works for me. Could be super boring and tedious, but possibly worthwhile. Balancing the rewards might be tough between classes, but it could work. An everlong bounty hunter.
I had been thinking along HRP's wavelength a bit, too. I had thought that maybe a quest/adventure reward would provide a few stat points for allocation.
That idea just sound like MFing. But more of a sure, predicted and easy MFing.
Could be nice, it just doesn't fit with my Diablo feeling.
And for the attribute discussion- If there are not stats requirements on items, they should just make a lot of chances to boots your stats by quest and items.
So if you want to be a melee char (which I agree totally out of place lore-wise but really cool and unique-wise) just choose to boost your STR and looks for +STR items. Suddenly +items will become much more important.
PS- Strangely I agree about the gender problem. Nice idea, but as far as I've seen the female WD and Barb looks real bad. More like they're a side option that nobody will actually choose.

pretty much sums it up for me, but still it is fun to discuss what is currently going on
Sure. Holding a key down as you rolled the mouse wheel could be a way of changing the waY "spells" cast.
This forum is the only way i'm gona make it till the release.
Also an achievement system really would be cool. If you could keep track of how many gouls you kill off. It would be nice to see a stat system. Or fastest boss kill. I've killed baal pretty quick. It could be reset everytime a new ladder starts. There could be a World record of Diablo. Just think somebody spent something like 5 days doing the houlahoop. Imagine the possibilities. Sounds like there could be an awards ceremony at up coming blizzard events.
