View Full Version : I might start making Diablo character variant guides

I noticed that the D1 forum didn't have much in it, so I decided I might make some guides that stray away from melee warriors, bow rouges, and magic sorcerers. Instead, I plan on writing guides in this forum on "Hybrids", like a magic warrior (Yes, it works), a sword rouge, or even a sword and bow using sorcerer.

And, I might make more on the simple idea of the Low AC side of things. The glasscannon, for example as many D2 players take notice of that name....

So, I might make a series of guides about variants, strategys for said hybrids, and of course the ever so helpful why it doesn't work the D2 way.

But, don't expect much this week; my math grade is not what it should be, and I plan on working on my grades before coming out with an actual guide in here.

I do promise you they will be here. (With Cookies!) :alright:

Sounds good to me!

I have always played mage warriors - I find them to be the most fun.

I'll definitely be interested to see what you come up with, because D1 is a little limiting due to the very tiny effect of weapon damage, and the absolute need for a melee character to have high AC and high to-hit.

and the absolute need for a melee character to have high AC and high to-hit.

Where'd ya get the need for High-AC from? Not at all. A low-AC warrior is probally the best warrior, for i'm sure you know that AC has no affect on magic damage. In which, you'll notice that your screen gets crowded with blood stars more often then swords.

But, I think my first guide will be about melee rouges, then maybe bow mages or melee mages. I personally think melee rouges are better then normal warriors. Which, I will go more into my opinion on that when I make said guide.

It's very easy to max resistances, but a melee character with low AC will be stun-locked in any group of melee enemies - even 3 blood knights can do the trick.

Notice I didn't say it was necessary for any *warrior* to have high AC, just any *melee character*. Anyone who's tried a BNM will attest that you can make it through the game without AC. If you're going hand-to-hand in D1, though, you need high AC. Even with a shield you'll go into block-lock without it. If you have a different approach, I'd love to see it, though!

I probally wont make a specific guide to Low-AC in general, but i'll throw it into the mix of guides I post. Along with strategies, etc.

But, a basic example is when you're low AC against melee monsters, you should generally be using them to block off each other to keep the mob small, then taking less damage. Most of the time, corners are dreaded, but in the case of low AC, you can take the biggest horde of melee monsters and placing yourself into a corner, you and a helm of spirits with a KsoH, you can just quickly dispose of the threat of melee monsters.

Expect a guide for melee rouges over the weekend!

at some point, if u'd be so kind i'd love to see a guide or exploration of a 2 handed melee character (warrior, mage, or rogue) too.

i'm still interested in a 2 handed axe melee warrior. though u can replace axe with a 2handed sword or mace too.

but, i love the idea of having more guides and different play-build (variant-hybrid) styles that which your thread says its about. i look forward to when u got the time to get the guides done and will be reading them :D

(btw, i'm doing school again too, forgot how stressful it is, especially tests and they are all the same week or day. i used to do math as well and was good...until i hit calculus and especially application of calculus. i went from being smart and good at math to being stupid. i haven't done math again anyways since i never really liked it, i was jsut good at it for the time until got to calculus)

if i may ask, what math u taking? after calculus, different type of math, or before calculus? just curious:D

The Rogue is Quite good at melee fighting, you just need a good sword (griswolds edge is ok) enough strength and good armour. But start with a bow. Making her a sorceress is also a lot of fun.Mine can kill diablo with holy bolt in a few seconds.Just smoke out his minions with firewall first.

I put basic character strategy info on all of the D1 chars in the wiki. It's not advanced tactical stuff or equipment guides (it wasn't meant to be), but it should be fairly useful to any new or intermediate players.

Also note that every other kind of basic info for d1 is in the wiki, except for the monster stats; havne't had time to put all of those in yet.
