The vipers in hell mode Halls for DKey runs have the invisible poison cloud where you move and you get hurt, several guides have said they have had reports that you can hold shift and teleport through the clouds and not get hurt, I play on hardcore mode or I would have tested myself (lost a 89 druid to vipers already) =( Thanks in advance!

From my experience: If you press Alt and teleport you won't suddenly stop in front of a wall, and while teleporting I never die from vipers. But when I reach Nih and switch to my main attack (Nova on current character), and then I get hit, I die pretty much immediately.

In other words, without Vipers I have a 95% chance to stay alive, without maybe 20% (if I can avoid them). Frankly if I were you I wouldnt do this run with a hardcore sorc.

Alt as in the loot button? I don't see how that would help.

Nova?

So i guess you are energy shield, right?

What is your poison resist? You absolutelly need max poison resist, you can also get some stuff to take your HP up. or maybe drink several poison potions before going down there.

Each pul can give you 20 to life (sc) think about it.

Each pul can give you 20 to life (sc) think about it.
while each Sol rune gives 7iDR

i know which one i'd rather use.

Well, it's not an either/or you use the dmg reduction in your armor, and the pul to trade for small charms for life. So you can have both if you can afford it.

So back to OP... does holding shift work or not

The problem with the Vipers is that their poison cloud deals physical damage per frame. The best solution is to stack some PDR to negate that damage. I don't know the minimal amount needed to do this but there's a guide to run Nih that explain it.

EDIT: It seems that 55 PDR negates the viper damage 100% of the time. A amulet of live everlasting (20~25 PDR) and a few socketed Sol's should be enough. Check this thread (http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696825) and links provided.

I am a lite sorc with average gear and an insight HF merc both level 88
I don't find much trouble at all with the those vipers unless I am foolish.

The vipers are lite immune so I let my merc do all the work. I teleport to the hallway just before nihlatak, and I make a portal next to a corner. I allow any snakes to walk towards me as I stand on the portal and just teleport in the same spot to keep my merc near me. As long as my merc dosen't take steps he dosen't die from the poison. The he can handle having 3-4 snakes on him at once, and he can kill them all. Whenever he gets half-way low on life.. I just step into the portal and talk to the shopkeeper to fill his bar up. Then I immediately walk back into the portal and open up another portal to town on the same spot, and repeat as needed. I find those winged monsters much more of a nuisance because they do something to get my merc killed fast unless I take them out with lightning.

My hammerdin also does well with the snakes, and not useing a merc. I make sure I have max resists and a good holy shield. When I see a snake, I lure it towards me, and I will run around a corner so it cannot hit me with poison dart until he gets close, then I hammer him to death pretty quickly, and make sure I dont take more than 1 or 2 steps while poisoned. I chug an antidote pot, and then a heal. I cast a backup portal just incase I need to run back into town. Hammerdin does very good. max vigor means I can run super fast down to where nihlatak is.. and I don't even need to rely on the merc.

Overall my lite sorc does it faster, but I loose my merc maybe every 10 games. I die just about the same on my sorc as on my hammerdin, and that is only when I try to speed run it and not be as cautious.

Im running nihlatak with my 1 pt smiter, so i can only say for melee..

For me it seems like there are two things:
1: Dont move while fighting snakes, let them come to you.
2: if you need to move, move back from the snake. The cloud is only between you and the snake. Dont know if this helps anyone.

I havn't died in agees due to these two "rules"
