View Full Version : King Leoric Back?
In the Wizard demo video it showed a skeleton king come to life at the end. Does anybody know if this is King leoric back from the dead.... again, or is it something else altogether?
I thought that was him the moment i saw that skeletal abomination. Yeah, it must have been him
I certainly hope so... he was the coolest boss in Diablo 1, and bringing back an Undead creature can certainly be explained easily without harming consistency.
I am 90% sure it is King Leoric (or that we are supposed to think he is). They used exactly the same voice/greeting (The warmth of life has entered my tomb, prepare your self mortal to serve me for eterenity *evil laugh*)

That's Leoric all right.
How many times do I have to kill you, you rusty old thing! Also, pick a Mastery and stick with it! First it was a giant sword, now you're all going for maces!

It's him. The bloody corpse at the entrance to the catherdral (sound familiar?) specifically says The Skeleton King has been resurrected.

blizzcon attendee here, i played through the demo several times and i gotta say... leoric coming alive to battle us during the demo was the coolest diablo experience i've had to date. yes, better than the first time i saw the butcher or the first time i faced duriel.

I am kinda annoyed that they spoiled the surprise. I loved Leoric in DI, and I was watching this video and he was saying "The warmth of life..." I instantly knew it was him.
I am pretty happy that they are bringing him back, though, I wasn't hoping for that since the Butcher always got all the attention.

i might agree with you... seeing leoric out of nowhere would have been absolutely amazing. but his battle and animation were so cool that they should be an invaluable marketting tool (as if we needed any more reason to buy d3).
also, i'm hoping that the leoric battle is just the tip of the iceberg for "OMG THAT'S FREAKING CRAZY/AMAZING" moments. imagine if they bring back griswald, wirt, charsi, any of the old bosses, or any of the old npcs for that matter. you would seriously bust a nut.
i can dream of them putting in a "rare quest" that only spawns in 1 out of 100 games that asks you to go find wirt's leg... only to encounter a resurrected and zombified wirt that you must destroy (after which he drops a random high quality blue item of course)! :jig:

bringing back old characters has always been great imo, specially characters from D1. i really think we will see the witch adria at some point in this game also

This was confirmed in the released info somewhere. I don't have time to dig it up but it's in there. Adria will make an appearance in D3

I'll show them what my pitch black not too dark for me combat boots can do to their rainbows and sunshine! Bring back Gharbad, the unholy, the ultimate villian of any game... period.... and if you don't who he is.... you are forgiven after you watch this because we all know you'll change to the dark side afterwards!

i had heard that we will see old faces but i did not know that she was confirmed

I agree that he's the coolest boss. Especially in d1 when he bursts out of nowhere with a sword bigger then ur character. He has a more detailed past than most characters however

i am sure there will be plenty of original content, nothing wrong with seeing some old faces again, infact i think it will only enhance the game

Blizzard always adds a bit of nostalgia value in their games, yet they keep each game fresh, fun and genre defining. They will have many tidbits of the game with references to Diablo and Diablo II, yet it won't be a Diablo 2.5, it will be a Diablo 3. A little nostalgia never hurts and can even add more depth to the story/lore :D.

Didn't someone who played the demo say that the quest giver mentioned that Leoric was revived by a fire that struck the cathedral?

Actually, in D1 he says "to serve my master for eternity." Is he no longer under Diablo's control? Where the heck is Diablo, anyway?

Diablo is deaded! At least in Sanctuary, he is. So King Leoric has assumed the title of master.

I would agree with this. they are retconing the story line, lots of npc stuff and adding tonnes of new lore to the universe. It's quite nice to start the game with sound roots in what we already know before changing too much. the fact that they draw so much D1 inspiration is great imho. The Diablo I Manual was like the biggest source of actual lore before Abd al-Hazir anyway (BTW, his name has a real Arabic meaning)!

i think it would be tough to swing that mace with one arm...or no arms because I have one of his arms too..
Read Abd al-Hazirs 8th entry (http://www.diablowiki.net/Writings_of_Abd_al-Hazir:_Entry_no._0008) for info on how skeletal undead work. Even if it's his arm, a re-summoning of him would use another skeletal arm ^^

Well, skeletons are run by the amount of magic they have infused in them. I think you can probably create a lich with a skeleton if you put in enough magic, but with Zombies, they are run by their rotting brain, and have a lot less intelligence =)

one thing i love about beating on skeletons is that they always make a very pleasing cracking and breaking sound when you drop them :crazyeyes:
