View Full Version : Barb and WD skilltrees?
I read in the liveblog that you (from Diii.net) already have the full WD and Barb skill trees, am I wrong?
I'd really like too see them, and I guess I'm not the only one :)
Plz? :whistling:

The Barb's skill tree was as complete as the Wiz's skill tree. I think it will be posted later. The WD only had 10 skills.
Seriously. I've been dying for them to post what they know about the other skill trees since they mentioned them in the Wizard skill tree post. I wish they would release this info soon.. I can't find it anywhere on the web either.

Keep in mind that they are pretty busy during the convention days. The info will probably come later. Patience is a virtue.
Masochism isn't.

we got notes on all of them and will post those shortly. We were out late Saturday night after the show ended, and then most people were traveling all day Sunday, and then catching up on real life events once we got home. Much more stuff will be posted tomorrow and all this week.
The reason the wizard stats got up so early was thanks to our new team member MedievalDragon heroically staying up until like 4am on Friday night, typing them up from his notes and some other references.
yeah, I know. Thanks guys
BTW how do I start a petition for "I demand the other skilltrees, the fact that you have them and I could be reading them if not for your Real Lives, which are just a simple detail, is driving me nuts" ?
Does anyone know if what was posted for the Wiz and what will be posted for the Barb is ALL of the skills that they have? Or is there going to be more not yet released?

The final Tier of the skills hasn't been shown yet for both the Wiz and the Barb. I don't know if the current tiers have all skills yet. The Barb had around 40 skills and I believe that the total number should be around 60. So the trees are incomplete for both the Barb and the Wiz.

^Good to know, thanks!
Do skills have a level requirement or just point requirement?
I'm guessing if not the quickest you could get the best class spells/skills would be level 20, instead of 30 in Diablo 2? Just curious...

There were indeed blank spaces in some of the tiers where additional skills will be added.
The demo featured some of the "showier" low-level skills for the three classes, such as Locust Swarm (http://www.diablowiki.net/Witch_Doctor_skills#Locust_Swarm) and the Flaming Skull ranged attack for the Witch Doctor (a ranged target +splash damage fire skull that explodes on impact) and some lightning, magic missile and defensive clone/teleport/pushback spells for the Wizard. I wish I had spent more time on the Barbarian, but he was the first class I played and I was paying more attention to the environment and slaughtering ghouls instead of his skill trees, as they only gave attendees like fifteen to twenty minutes before you had to get back in line to play again. :\

At the moment all I know about is that there is a point requirement. So it does look like you'll be hitting the final tier at level 20. Can't say that I find that a bad thing.
I'd prefer lvl 30 tho, just a little less rushing in getting the best highest level skills. Lvl 20 is so low rushing to the best skills just gets more attractive.
Can't wait for the other skill trees. Just one curiosity... no more synergies?

From what I understand not as we have them in D2. You have the rune system that acts as a boost for skills and replacement for synergies. There are always skills that work together just as Fire Mastery and the fire spells from the Sorc.
And thank god for that. Synergies really killed the use of varient skills.
from my understanding of everything ive read, the lvl 20 thing should be a problem in terms of rushing through the game. from what it looks like on the wizard skill tree, you have so many different passive spells that can get 15 pts to make your skills pwoerful that you wont be rushing to lvl 20...but prob more like lvl 35-40 to get those passive skills maxed? I am not speaking from experience here in case I am way off! haha.
Mantis, again this is speculation since some areas were blank, but did it look like that if you took a char to lvl 99 or 100 you would have almost 2 trees completely maxed?

I've only memorized a lot of news articles about it. Most of them from this site. If you look at the Wiz's skill tree you'll see that at level 100 you'll only max one skill tree, providing you want all the skills in that three. The Wiz's Storm Skill Tree, incomplete as it is, needs an astonishing 172 points to max fully. My guess is you won't be using, or maxing, most skills in a single tree.

what i am really looking forward to is knowing the full tree for all chars plus how many points and what not we get through out the game. i spent alot of time pre d2 thinking of character builds and hope i get to do it again. was fun to try the builds i came up with specially since alot of them were pretty damn bad lol

same here!
I spend my time drooling over possible builds before a game/expansion is released. I can hardly wait untill it comes out. The wizard looks so fun so far.

And the skill tree is still a tree in fuction, as well as name, correct? I.E., the tiers are still connected so that you must still waste a point in a lower tier skill you don't want to gain access to a higher tier skill up the tree?

Yes but the teir system helps mitigate the feeling of wasting skill points in lower skills by allowing choice in which lower skill you use.
Theres bound to be 1 skill below tier 15 that you will want to max. So no points will really be wasted.

From what I can tell from the wizard's tree, "wasting" a skill point won't be an issue anymore. There's a lot of passives and masteries in the first levels that can benefit higher level skills.

I really hope those blank spots get filled in on the trees with more skills! Like maybe a frostbolt right next to charged bolt
Guys, I know typing all those skills must be a lot of trouble, so can you just scan your notes to entertain us? maybe even someone takes them and writes them for you!

agreed, every level had a min of 1 skill(more imo) that could serve as a point dump til the next level opened. dont want charged bolt? work the passive til the next skill opens. if i am correct in how it will work i like this wayyyyyy more
Holy crap I'm dying here. Five days since BlizzCon and one of the juiciest bits of information still hasn't been posted yet...
/screw off if you're going to flame me for getting anxious over some exciting news.
Hahaha maybe they were just bluffing so that we keep visiting this site 10 times a day :)
just kidding
Did no one else get it either? If the people at shack news could get the wizard tree, then why not the others? Was everyone just focused too much on the new class?
How can they be putting up posts on monster art before this juicy gem of information? I just don't get it.
I don't want to read yet another interview with JW that rehashes the same old points we've already read everywhere else since BlizzCon. Just please release the skill trees for the Barbarian and WD... that should be the next news item.

simple answer? to keep you coming back
longer answer, i assume they want to do something better with the skill tree, more work involved
I've got some info on the Witch Doctor skill trees. These were the skill trees and their line ups at the demo:
The first tree is Plague which has skills like Plague of Toads, Spider Statue, and Locust Swarm
The second tree is Spirit which has skills like Skull of Flame, Soul Harvest, Firebats, and Mass Confusion.
Third tree is Voodoo which has Summon Zombie Dog, Sacrifice, Wall of Zombies, and Horrify.
The skills, skill names, and trees are of course not final but this is what was shown at BlizzCon.

I can see how holding back the information could be a marketing tactic... but the problem with that is that anyone else who is as interested as I am in the Barbarian skills most likely already visits the site on a regular basis. The longer they take to post the new skill trees the more negative feelings I generate towards the site.
If they are intentionally holding back this information then I would argue that it's actually a bad marketing move. You don't hold onto THIS kind of info. You can do that with interviews and transcripts... sure. I like getting that kind of information in daily or weekly doses. But you DON'T hold onto the kind of info that fans have been waiting MONTHS for and expected to learn 6 DAYS ago during BlizzCon.
C'mon diii.net dudes... just scan and post the bloody notes on those skills already and make it look pretty later.
I'm starting to feel just like you.. It's been almost week

i guess i can understand your point, but i prefer them to get them looking good, set up in a nice format so to speak, then show us. i do not like how sloppy all the other sites look right now with thier skill info, like it was just thrown up there by a drunken blind monkey
i posted the skill tree name in the barb forum

They're most likely creating the wiki infrastructure right now.
I bet they've lost the notes, hoping if they stall we will forget about it lol.
They just mentioned the missing skill trees directly in the "Inventory Images" news post:
Flux: "(In related news, we will, at last, have full details of the WD and Barb skill trees posted later this weekend.)"
So at least we know they are on their way! It really could have been executed better... but I'll be happy just to finally get my eyes on them.
Its too bad that the WD tree is only like 10 skills. Could it have been one of the last classes they started on yet they decided to show it first? Wizard is the 3rd shown and yet it has the most complete skill tree of the 3, kind of weird.
Hellspawn

Most likely is has the least skills shown because WD has more skills that need balancing/tweaking than the other classes, regardless of when they first started working on the class.

could be but then my question is, why was only the female wizard playable but both barbs and WD's

all barb trees are up....
Although amusing that some might think we're that calculating, there were marketing tactics connected with the delay of this report - just busy with offline commitments that could not be avoided. Other D3 updates were minor and took a fraction of the time of the barb which is much more involved and required peace and quiet with no interruptions.
Are you going to post the WD trees anytime soon? I'm really curious about the WD skills stats, especially spider-something-plague-of-men-eating, 'cause I haven't figured out if it can be used as tank
