View Full Version : Stacking %chance to cast items

i had a question about items such as gloves and shields that give u a %chance to cast a certain lvl spell

from what i've read those %ages stack if they're the same spell, but my question was more directed toward the allocation of the %ages if the lvl of the spell differed among the two items

sorry if i'm wording this wrong, but i'll try to give an example that applies to my character

my zealer/smiter uses dracs gloves which has a 5% chance to cast lvl 10 life tap on striking, while its exile shield has a 15% chance to cast lvl 5 life tap on striking, if both the %ages stack to come out to 20%, how exactly is the lvl of the life tap sorted out

also on a side note, if my character casts a lvl 10 life tap, but later casts a lvl 5 life tap, won't the lvl 5 life tap override the lvl 10 life tap?

and sorry if this question was asked or answered earlier, i tried searching the forums for this topic, but couldn't find anything on it

I'm not sure but I do know that certain curses (i.e. the life tap example) only gain range (area of effect) for each point put into the curse...so the skill level doesn't matter as much as other things.

% only stack if the spells are the same. You have a 5% chance to trigger the LT from Dracul's, and a 15% to trigger the LT from Exile.

And yes, the Slvl 5 LT will override the Slvl 10. Not like it really makes much of a difference, as the only difference is duration/radius. So even if Slvl 5 overrides, the ones outside Slvl 5 radius' are still under Slvl 10 LT.

sorry, just to clarify -

as long as the spells are the same regardless of the level they will stack right?

it's just i would have a greater chance of triggering the LT from the exile?

sorry if i'm putting words in your mouth, just making sure if i'm on the same page

No, if their levels are different they do not stack. They only stack if the levels are exactly the same. If the levels are different then you have two different chances to cast LT (at different levels). Each hit has a 5% ctc level 10 and a 15% ctc level 5.

Yeah, my bad if it wasn't clear, I think I left a word out. It should have read:

"% only stack if the spells are the same level."

Effectively, there is not really much difference if they stack or not. The chance to not cast Lifetap would be 95%*85% which is 80.75%. That's not far from the 80% if they do stack.
