View Full Version : Discuss the Wizard here!
Sweet! The mage character is back!
I love the concept of this character : a rebellious young wizard dedicated to learn more and more powerful magics!
However, I am surprised on how they present it on the main d3's site (http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/characters/wizard.xml) : they refer to the wizard as if it really was a unique character. I mean, there are a number of barbarians and witch doctors they are in a tribe or stuff... but the wizard seems to be alone? And they always refer to the wizard as "she". I have no doubt on the fact that we will be able to play male wizards since there is a drawing of him in the art concept. The thing that bugs me is that if you follow the plot, there shouldn't have a thing such as a male wizard? (That was the thing I was looking the most forward!)
Anyway I'm really happy about this class, discuss what you think about it!
Same deal as Barbarians.
The male barbarian is the guy you played in Diablo 2. The female barbarian is god knows what.
In my opinion there's too much detail on who this wizard is. Like we knew who the Necro was in D2?:P
I do like the skills tho, that AoE bomb thing or whatever that was looked pretty awesome!

I like. The spells look flashy, but I just hope the game is actually fun. The attribute fiasco doesn't give me much hope...

I'm sorry if my question wasn't clear enough what I meant is that by the plot of the story, it seems that there is only one Wizard. If you check for barbarian info on arreat summit : http://battle.net/diablo2exp/classes/barbarian.shtml
The Barbarian, a member of any of several tribes on the fringes of civilization, rebuffs the influence of those he sees as soft and weak.
You see that he is part of a tribe so it's normal to see multiple barbarians in diablo games. But the Wizard in DIII as she is presented on diablo3.com is different, like she's unique, and she's a girl. Like... there aren't "wizards".
And to the other who posted this : In my opinion there's too much detail on who this wizard is. Like we knew who the Necro was in D2?:P
There is a story for each of Diablo II character's, its just that less people know about it. Like there's a whole lot of info about the necro there : http://battle.net/diablo2exp/classes/necromancerhistory.shtml Comparable to the detail on who the wizard is.
I know what you mean Gamekk, I am confused too.
Seeing this gals skill tree makes me fairly excited, there seems to be a lot of different options which aleviates my concerns of the characters being too one dimensional and cookie cutter.
Correction.
Wizard is an almost "derogatory" term for a mage who isn't part of a mage-clan (i.e. Sorceror). There are plenty of Wizards, but it's not like it's an organized group or a specific honorific. If you piss off enough people or act like a jackass as a mage, you will get branded as a Wizard.
It's just like the situation with the Barbarian for Diablo 3. There are probably many barbarians, but the one you play is specifically the dude who duked it out with the Prime Evils in Diablo 2. There are probably many mages who get branded as Wizards, but you will be playing the one that specifically is described by the backstory.

About the atrribute fiasco. Seen from the standpoint of D2, this would indeed mean a fiasco, if the game mechanics worked the same way and attribute point distribution would be a matter between life and death.
I wonder what is meant by fiasco. This mechanic works well in WoW, though the point here is, that you rely alot on items and talents to add extra points to your attributes.
What i want to say is that, the game mechanics are alot different and certainly taken from WoW, but there it works just fine.
I you find it a fiasco that you builds will be very item dependant and you will possibly lack a bit of variety since you cannot distribute stat points, than i agree a bit.
The system for D3 will work nicely as it does for WoW and still you will have the possibility for many different builds.
If you look at the Talen/Skill trees (http://www.diablowiki.net/Wizard_skills) that we know of now from the wizard and combine that with the knowledge of the current spells, i can already see a number of builds emerging :)
Watching the wizard gameplay video (the 5min one) i saw another spell that looked like Disintegrate, but with a white color, which is obviously "Ray of Frost". Also the Acidcloud and Stoneskin armor look very cool and useful.
Storm tree Combat spells:
Charged Bolt
Frost Nova
Electrocute
Ray of Frost
Tornado
Blizzard
Arcane tree Combat spells:
Magic Missile
Disintegrate
Wave of Force
Arcane Orb
Conjuring tree Combat spells:
Spectral Blade
Meteor Storm
Acid Cloud
Hydra (!)
Magic Weapon
I think that accounts for alot of possible active combat spells to use. Then there are alot of different armor and passive spells to complement this infernal power wielder.
There is only one true build.
LAZER WIZARD. When D3 comes out, I want to see a massive PvP battle made out of only LAZER WIZARDZ.
They changed the spell videos at the site (Magic Missile and Slow Time) from the female wizard to the male one, finally we can see the male wizard in action...
And it's not like Abd al Hazir says anything about female witch doctors...
