View Full Version : Wizard's magical weapon
So I can see what "spectral blades" is from the gameplay video, but is there any footage of the wizard using her "magical weapon" skill?
Level 4 in the conjure tree:
Magic Weapon
Rank 0/1
Mana Cost: 10
Imbue your weapon with magical energy granting it increased damage.
What is this skill?
How does it work?
What does it look like?
Is she actually meleeing? or summoning something like spectral blades?
It's basically Enchant from Diablo 2.
You cast a buff on yourself, and your weapon will deal additional damage.
That seems pretty underwhelming considering it's an upper tier skill.
Upper tier skills are here to expand your options. A Wizard who goes to upper level conjuration is rewarded with an option to become a melee fighter (or maybe even bow) fighter.
I believe the level of that skill exceeds the level you could reach in the demo @ blizzcon. So I doubt it's on tape.

I'm not so sure it's exactly like Enchant...
It could be just like that, but the mana cost is fairly low and some of the other skill descriptions make me wonder. I think it could possibly be a melee attack where you channel some magical energy into the attack with each swing, not a one time application like Enchant.
It could go either way. Arcane Strike from D and D comes to mind as a reference if you know what that means. Burn the mana to imbue your weapon for that one attack. Either way it should open up the possibility, as does much of the conjuration tree, of a melee wizard as a strong build.
Very possibly synergises with skill that increases spell damage based on weapon damage.
Imbue your weapon with magical energy granting it increased damage.
How is this open to interpretation?
You cast a spell on your weapon that makes it do more damage.

And, it's pointless to make assumptions based on damage dealt by skills and mana spent and what not... they may have scaled it down, or maybe other things affect damage so strongly that skills need low base damage for balancing purposes.

Magical Weapon (http://www.diablowiki.net/Wizard_skills#Magic_Weapon) Like the others said, this similiar to Enchant in D2. Possible some shiny glowing effect, since its not fire related like in D2. Have not spotted it yet in the gameplay video.

I'm not quite sure, unless you guys have info that I do not have, how you can say for sure it will work like Enchant. Have they released something saying that? When I hear "Imbue your weapon with magic to do increased damage" I think it is either a long term buff, or a one time hit that is imbued for increased damage. Where are you all getting this certainty that it is a long duration buff?
I think it is more likely that it is like enchant...but I don't know that we can be sure having never seen it or heard more about it.
In fact:
Slowing Strikes
Enemies damaged by your melee attacks, Spectral Blade or magic weapon have their movement speed reduced by 30% and their attack speed reduced by 20% for 4 sec.
Why bother differentiating magic weapon from melee attacks unless it is its own attack and not an enchantment? Unless you can actually attack with the magic weapon spell, putting it in this skill description would be pointless and redundant.
If it was a one hit for more damage, it would say "Perform an attack with your weapon that does extra damage."
You know. English language may be messy, but it gets the point across.

Sylvanite. The character always attacks with the weapon, not the skill applied to the weapon. Ofcourse we cannot say for sure how it works, since noone has actually played it yet, but the description sounds absolutly like that of Enchant and i agree with konfeta, that if it would eb a one time attack, the wording would indeed clarify that.
But ofcourse we can all be wrong ;)
